Elvis 57 - The Final Fifties Tours
I have just finished reading a very good book, Elvis 57 - The Final Fifties Tours by Alan Hanson, a History teacher who understood the value of research.
He details all the shows performed by Elvis in 1957, from Chicago, through Canada to Tupelo and Hawaii, and all the controversy that followed him through this final manic Rock 'n' Roll year before he went into the Army. He uses Press Reports and interviews with people who were there in various capacities, fans, non-fans, promotors, policemen, musicians, DJ's, reporters..... he conveys the excitement which can only be understood by those who saw Elvis in those early years.....no one heard him in 57....they saw his show, but they couldn't hear him for the screams!
This is how Alan Hanson ends his book.....with a quote from an article written in 2002 recalling Elvis' 1957 appearance in Ottawa where the writer Earl McRae tries to explain the "influence of Elvis on America's youth in a year when the nation's innocence was dissolving...."
You had to have been there.
If not, it is impossible for you to know.
You can read and you can hear and you can surmise, but you simply cannot know all that was Elvis Presley and all that he was about. You had to live it, you had to feel it. There has not been a greater magic, a greater musical force, a greater pop culture phenomenon. Not Sinatra, not The Beatles, not Dylan, not Springsteen, not any you can name.
Elvis changed the times. He changed the way young people dressed, the way they talked, the way they thought, the way they regarded themselves.....
Elvis Presley means this, and always will: a young, lean electrifyingly energetic, impossibly-handsome, southern rebel prince with twitchy hips, pouty lips, long, greased back hair, jutting pompadour, trademark sideburns, and a boyish, sexy sneer of a smile that exploded the hearts of adoring females.

The doc is always happy to help the erstwhile Presley fan, with information, insight, and more than a little love!

I'm going to have to be picking this one up. I've known about it for months and have't acted yet!
There was also a great, more extensive review of it at EIN's site:

Hi,
Is there a website that is replete with photos of Elvis' show(s)? in Los Angeles in 1957?
Thank You.

Yes there is a website - here - and there are 24 pages of photos of Elvis in Los Angeles, California, October 28, 1957 in the new 'Elvis In Gold' book from JAT Productions.

Re: Elvis 57 - The Final Fifties Tours
I am nearly finished reading the book.
Fantastic research to get it put together.
It's a shame we don't have more film from this year.
I learned a few things about the shows I didn't know before.
I got mine new, for under $20 postpaid.
The only complaint is the pics are just average quality and they are not
in the book chronologically. And not all shows are represented visually.
