I must say that I dislike mono sound, especially when heard thru headphones.
Thankfully all my favorite Elvis song are in stereo but strange thing is that one of my favorite Springsteen songs is available in mono only despite beeing released in the 80s.

incidentally i found this most interesting letter on songfacts by a woman who believes the song was written about her because she ignored Jim's stares at her being under-aged. Make of this what you will.

Temi from San JoseI recall being in Los Angeles to audition for a Ginger Ale commercial and then going to Venice Beach with my cousin who lived in Fullerton.

There was a caucasian guy with curly hair, bare chested and bare feet who was at the beach and said 'hello' to me from a distance. I looked at him and then my cousin who told me he was with some group called the Doors. I totally ignored him.

In the late 90's I was listening to a documentary on the radio about the Doors when one of the members said that Jim Morrison had seen a beautiful black woman on the beach he said 'hello' to, but ignored him was the inspiration for the song. Why did you leave this part out? Until someone tells me differently, I am the person who was the inspiration.

Isn't that available in stereo on the Tracks box set (Disc 3) released in 1998? Do you know of that set?

another legendary 1969 mix comparison... Wasn't the 1984 RCA "Golden Records Volume 5" held the distinction of being the debut of the Stereo Master?

What’d I Say (Part 1) (Charles) by Bobby Darin, conducted by Jimmie Haskell

This track was included in Bobby’s 1962 LP “Bobby Darin Sings Ray Charles.”

I must give the edge to the original mono mix...

That's correct. And, aside from the mix on 2nd to None, it is the only stereo mix that is the same length and mix as the actual mono mix. Almost all other stereo mixes from 1993 on sound way different comapred to the mono version and are shorter in length.

IMHO, the definitive way to listen to Kentucky Rain is the mono version.

another mono and stereo comparison with this psychedelic record by Traffic...

Released in May 1967 and eventually peaking at #5 in the UK charts, this was Traffic's debut single. The band comprised Stevie Winwood, Jim Capaldi, Chris Wood and Dave Mason (who plays the sitar on this recording). This is the original mono 45.

This stereo mix counterpart is pathetic but it does pick up by the 2:43 point. In this case it would be best and appreciate it as mono, consistency-wise. You be the judge!
