Samsung Galaxy S3 Annoyances

Post by BrianTCB »

Well, I ended up losing my iPhone when my car was rear ended back in January, so I figured it was time to switch and I got a Samsung Galaxy S3. Love the phone, except for two things:

1. When sending emails, I get two copies on my desktop computer. I want one copy to be sent out only. I found out searching online that it has to do with the syncing, so I disabled one instance of a program. But, I want to disable it ENTIRELY and have it STAY DISABLED, no matter whether or not I turn on or OFF the device. I do NOT want this unnecessary feature to come up again once it has been disabled. How do I accomplish this?

2. I cannot send images in a text message without them being a slide show. I want them to be sent as a single image. I have so far found absolutely ZERO way to do this and while Googling for the answer no suggestion that comes up works.

Does anyone know how to get rid of the above behaviors? I want the default programs to accomplish this. I have no interest in installing a third party app.

Brian, I wonder if the mail settings on your destop are causing this? I have the S3, and don't have this issue.

elvisjock - Do you have your Gmail account synced on the device?

That solved that problem. Removing my Google Account entirely from being synced solved it.

Somehow that resulted in emails being sent twice.

Now, to figure out how to set the text messaging app to send images out as single images rather than slideshows/MMSes!

Just curious: how do you like it, compared to the IPhone? Now, I have the Big Brother, the Galaxy Note II, but they are very much the same, save for size, the S-Pen, and a few features. Otherwise, they are essentially the same, the two Samsung phones. (I like a screen as big as they can make it! And I can't be without that magic stylus.)

But it's a lot bigger screen than the IPhone, and the Jelly Bean operating system is amazing! Do you like it? How does it compare, for you? Also, do you like the camera? (I just STARTED figuring out the many, many camera options on my Note II: there is SO much you can do . . . a fantastic camera, for a phone.)

So, what do you think of the big switch? Really curious. The S4 is coming out soon, and then there'll be another, of course. I don't know what they'll do about the Note in the future, save for making a mid-size tablet, the Note 8, which does have a phone in it, but that's kinda big for a phone. So, I'd like to know about your phone!

Robyn,

Compared to the iPhone - I truly absolutely love this phone. The bigger screen and comparable brightness of the Galaxy S3 is pretty amazing. The brightness is probably a touch or two below the max brightness of the iPhone 5 - which is no big deal for me. The video and streaming is razor smooth, and I have never had better quality video. In fact, I believe the Galaxy S3's video streaming is significantly above the sub-par quality streaming that you get on the iPhone 5 (even while connected via wi-fi). The camera is really quite well done and on par quality wise (if not better). In fact, in all cases for me it has been better in quality (especially indoors). But, one minor issue - some people who take your picture with the phone are unable to keep the phone still enough and are not familiar with how it focuses to achieve a perfect picture. They don't realize they have to wait until it focuses to achieve perfect focus. That's the problem with iPhone - it has trained people to be reliant on the camera automatically doing everything for them (including focus).

Another word about video - you never really realize just how many videos are blocked by iPhone because of iPhone not supporting them.

Overall I love my Galaxy S3 and think it truly is an iPhone killer. You won't find the iPhone having a water ripple effect when you touch the screen when it's locked. It's all in the little details - a few of which the iPhone 5 lacks. I highly recommend the Galaxy S3 for anyone who is seeking an iPhone alternative.

Thanks! Yes, the camera is complicated, but it's a real camera!

Glad you're enjoying it!
