An Important Tech Security Question About FECC

Post by rjm »

Hi. I'm back. And I have what I think is an important question related to the protocols of forum security.

I'm on my iPad right now, but Norton offered a VPN app for my phone, and I'm using it so that yet another of my phones doesn't get hacked from public WiFi. It changes the IP address on a rotating basis, so that no one can get into your real WiFi and hurt your phone. My SIM had apparently been hacked, and destroyed both of my beloved phablets. I use the Norton VPN thing when I'm on a borrowed phone until I get my Note 7 - very soon. And I am planning on using it there, too.

Do I have to turn it off when going into FECC? I know it's important for the tech staff and moderators to keep track of who's who here. I will gladly turn it off before entering. Is that necessary?

Thanks. And hello again. My, it's been a long, long time. :smt006

Thanks Allan. :)

I'm sure I'll find out. I live across the street from a community college and many of those kids know how to crack into other people's phones. Whatever hit my SIM card was deadly.

VPN's are A-OK if used in a legitimate way (such as what you describe).
They only become a problem when they are used to bypass bans/suspensions.
But, generally, their use is welcome here and shouldn't cause any problem.

Hello Robin,
If you do decide on a VPN make sure you choose one that will not decrease your bandwidth since most will allocate you through their own secure servers.
