Re: The G.I. Blues Recording Sessions
Once again, thanks so much Davide for the sensational work you're doing on the picture section of this messagboard. It is truly a dream come true when you deliver your files !
And to see Elvis in the recording studio is really the icing on the cake ! What thrills me most each time is to see the connexion between Elvis and the musicians. This is the first time for example I see the upright bass player Ray Siegel and that makes my day ! Also, your well-documented text helps us to set and understand the photos, to bring together the pieces of the puzzle.
Elvis was at the top of his game after the army and there is some great music in this soundtrack (it surely could have been better had the Leiber and Stoller numbers not been rejected) if you consider songs like Doin' the best I can, Pocketful of Rainbows, GI Blues, Frankfurt Special and the way he sings them...even this tame new version of Blue Suede Shoes is delightful to my ears).

[quote="ed40"]Thanks Davide,

"I think the studio photos of Elvis with the guitar and the white shirt are from around 1961....maybe soneone will know for sure"
I have done a lot of research to try and pin the the aprox date of the white shirt photos, and here is what I have come up with:
First of all the two images below : The first one is from G.I. Blues, with the date of 29th June 1960 on the back. The second, white shirt photo has the same date on the back of 29th June 1960.

Here we have the Guitar which is the same one in both, with the same strap. The same watch is seen ,the same rings on the same fingers, and the jewelry on Elvis' right wrist is the same on both.

The hair is the same cut,and as mentioned before the G.I. Blues khaki trousers are seen in the uncropped white shirt photo.

These pages are from From the November 1960 issue of Motion Picture magazine as kindly provided by The Fool, which keeps the images in 1960.

Awesome pictures! Anyone know what ring he is wearing on his left hand? It looks like the one in the "jungle room" shot.

Wow ... thank you so much for the improved quality for this image,It seems this photo is the only image of Elvis at the actual RCA Recording Session's. Would you know the source?

There's others in your post also that may be from RCA
but you can't be compleltely sure because he seems to be wearing the same shirt in all the other photos with the jacket and hat, none of which look anything that might have been taken at Radio Recorders. The one with Thorny is likely from a visit by him to the set since they wouldn't have a makeup desk like that at Radio Recorders, or RCA for that matter.

Re: The G.I. Blues Recording Sessions
Great post, David. Just wondering, are all the photos where Elvis is with The Jordanaires on the sound stage of the rehearsals only?

Re: The G.I. Blues Recording Sessions
A few that come from ebay auctions - a couple should be new ones, many can be found from the OP but they're a bit nicer quality; some less cropped, some just a bit bigger in size so maybe they'll make for nice upgrades.

Re: The G.I. Blues Recording Sessions
Great quality photos and some are highly interesting to my eyes because they are are uncropped. Especially number 6 in which you can see Dudley Brooks at the piano in the background, just behind the Jordanaire with guitar. And also number 1 which shows Hall Wallis and Norman Taurog following the progress of the rehearsals. Didn't know at all they were there...
Thank you very much for these updated precious documents !
