Excellent, Davide
I still haven't gotten that full DVD version of the whole show. Isn't there more than one of the Special? Any one recommended in particular?

Re: Frank Sinatra Timex - New and improved quality!!
Almost all of these are rehearsal images. Very nice.
Question: do you have ANY clear shots of Elvis' band? If we get a good look at the acoustic bass player, maybe we will, after 49 years, identify him.

Christian M[/quote] I don't understand this,do you mean that you have seen the Timex show Colourized or that it was original colour? I don't think this second option can be- from a Black and White TV camera?
Thanks Davide

Re: Frank Sinatra Timex - New and improved quality!!
All that information is known, thanks to this wonderful January topic:
Sinatra Timex Show - March 1960 -> Name The Bass Players!

Thank you for those images! Maybe we can pin this man down!

Re: Frank Sinatra Timex - New and improved quality!!
A review which isn't that positive!

Time Magazine
TELEVISION: One of the Worst
Monday, May. 23, 1960
Two years in the Army did more for Elvis Presley than relieve him of his 25-lb.sideburns. His name mellowed with absence, and some people cast a friendlier eye on the new image: a clean-cut kid in khaki, his pelvis at parade rest. Last week ABC's Frank Sinatra Timex Show spent more than a quarter of a million dollars to welcome Elvis home and performed a highly useful service: it reminded the forgetful just how dreadful Elvis really is.
First briefly introduced in full-dress uniform under waving flags, amid the sound of military trumpets and carefully cued hoyden screams, he had to wait for his big moment until later in the show, just after John Cameron Swayze had pulled a heartily ticking Timex watch out of the mouth of a Miami Beach porpoise.
Wilder and greasier than the porpoise, Presley came abumping onscreen, wearing boots and a tuxedo, his double-folded forelock bobbing above his head like a Vaseline halo. As he sang Fame and Fortune and Stuck on You, his feet tapped, his hands clapped, and his hips wrestled with each other. The voice was ordinary whine, on the point of becoming vinegar.
The rest of the show was gaudy, pretentious and dull — one of the worst TV hours in memory. Considering that it was taped almost two months ago in Miami, someone missed a major chance. As it sat on the shelf for seven weeks, some network employee — with guts and a Zippo lighter — could have sacrificed his job for the sake of the industry.
with thanks Davide

Re: Frank Sinatra Timex - New and improved quality!!
Ouch! We're of course aware of his nervousness about the Timex show. So I have to be honest that I'm not 100% wild about this Elvis appearance. He's not the '50s Elvis, seeming a bit shorn of this edge and at times a weaker counterpart to Sinatra's 40-something assurance.
He's not the more assured man who'd soon enough would swing through "Return to Sender" or "Viva Las Vegas," and not the rebel of '68 (nor nor the mature American legend of the '70s but in somewhat of an awkward phase. All the same, it's refreshing to see our boy back on stage - and of course I'm aware of the positive aspects of his performances on this show.

Re: Frank Sinatra Timex - New and improved quality!!
The show was never in color. If you saw a clip, it was colorized. ABC did very little color broadcasting in 1960, if any.
In 1980 while doing research for THIS IS ELVIS, we learned that the master black and white 2-inch videotape was junked by ABC in 1973. Elvis, the Colonel and Sinatra only had rather poor quality 16mm kinescopes in their collections.
A few years ago, the same company that restored the Ed Sullivan show appearances to look like videotape did a test on this show, but the work was never completed.
I'd like to think that someone involved with the destruction order on that tape realized that a master called "Welcome Home Elvis" and hosted by Frank Sinatra had some historic value. Perhaps it sits somewhere in a basement or storage area waiting to be found and restored...

Thank you for your insider information, which confirms my research that it was shot in Black and White only. I agree it would be a great find if someone somewhere had the master tape.

There was an LP released of this show on the bottom right of the front cover it looks like it says Bob Moore (bass).

Here's an invitation to the show's recording.
