Elvis was in one of those periods where he simply could NOT take a bad photo. Just look at all these March 1960 snaps! My goodness, few human beings are that blessed. Scouring the text for revelations, it seemed like this one was going to be light fare.

But I did find a few choice bits.

Q: Ever in love, Elvis?
Elvis: Yes, when I was in high school.

Although his chronology is slightly off, his first true love is once again cited. Elvis began dating Dixie Locke in early 1954, about eight months after he graduated from high school. Dixie was 15 and a sophomore at Memphis' South Side High, it's likely why he remembers it as "high school."

We also find out:

- the correct full name of his longtime housekeeper: Alberta Holmon
- Elvis will also be seen in Paramount Pictures' "G.I.Blues" and 20th Century-Fox's "Solo"

A 20th Century-Fox film called "Solo" was also attached to Elvis in the October 1960 issue of Movie-TV Tattler magazine, which you uploaded last summer. There is no film from the period with that title, but the connection must have been valid, on some level. Here's what I wrote on that topic after doing some research:

After that [G.I. Blues], if Elvis' popularity holds strong, Hal Wallis will put him in "Rodeo" at Paramount, and then he'll loan him to 20th Century-Fox for the Dick Powell production of "Solo."

I have no idea what the first film became, but the second is almost certainly the 1958 film "The Hunters," starring Robert Mitchum, Robert Wagner and Richard Egan.

It was both produced and directed by Dick Powell: The Hunters (20th Century-Fox, August 1958).

Obviously, some of this article is rehashed from old press. Note elsewhere the part about Elvis saying he never smiles -- that's a well-known quote from 1956.

RCA did a nice job with their ad design. The 3-28-1960 Billboard two-page spread I uploaded is very Christmas-y, even though it went up well after the holiday season.

In closing, before I retire, here is the text from my original post which contained the reel to reel image.

In the meantime, domestic audiophiles could purchase the new soundtrack on 7-1/2 IPS reel to reel tape.

I guess you didn't read that and that's why you have dismissed my visual contributions to this site as trivial.

For the record, the scan of that original 1965 reel to reel tape is from my personal collection. Having collected Elvis materials since 1968, I've accumulated quite a lot of rare and unusual images. While others utilize Google Images for their visual "research" I was scanning and painstakingly restoring archival materials from my own collection.

Don't worry, Dr. Carpenter. I will not post here any longer. Your arrogance and rudeness have made me decide to leave this site. I came here to share my collection and love for Elvis, not to fight.

The second film is most certainly NOT The Hunters. The Hunters was released in 1958. What exactly would the logical reason be for someone in October 1960 speculating as to whether Elvis would be in a film that was released two years earlier?

This is one very good reason why your assumptions about Elvis and his career should be taken with a very large pinch of salt. Madness.

Another relatively cursory glance at the web allows us to find that the proposed film "Solo" was to be based on Stanford Whitmore's novel of the same name about a jazz pianist. According to June 28, 1960 and January 21, 1961 articles in the New York Times, the lead role was by then to be played by Robert Wagner, with the film still under the helm of Powell. The film was to be Wagner's last for Twentieth Century Fox. The film never got made for reasons unknown, although it may be that the commercial failure of the similarly-themed "Too Late Blues" in early 1962 resulted in Fox pulling the plug. Or, perhaps, Powell was too ill (he publicly announced he had cancer in Sept 1962, but had been ill for months prior to that announcement) and the project simply got forgotten about.

Anyhow, once again the Doc has claimed to do research, come up with a theory (that the film was The Hunters) only for it to be proven incorrect. One can only wonder where this research was done and how, for it literally took me 10 minutes of searching the web to find the information.

With regards to "Rodeo", according to Tamerius and Worth's A-Z, "Tickle Me" was first planned as a project in 1958 with the working title "Rodeo". As with the whole of this book, one yearns for references in order to check the information as the book is far from reliable. However the date of a film being announced in 1958 with the working title Rodeo, together with the October 1960 magazine reference suggests that there is some truth in the Tickle Me/Rodeo reference in the A-Z.
