Wow, what a terrific share, thank you! It seems writer Geoff Lane spent a good deal of time with David Briggs, whose bracing honesty I always enjoy. And, despite a few small factual errors, Lane really knows and understands his subject. This was quite a sophisticated article for October 1972. I wonder if he was excited when he heard "Burning Love" all over the radio and topping the charts right after the article was published? The fool wrote:Elvis´ Memphis Sessions

Some new information, according to Briggs:
- the 5-26-1966 cover of "Love Letters" was not planned for the session, which was otherwise all gospel that night
- Briggs played in the live band at the Macon shows on 4-15-1972 (Sat) ... do any tapes exist?
Thanks again.

Fascinating stuff. Thanks a lot, The fool. To me it's very sad the ending :
"But you know and I know it'll never happen"
It was like a tragic premonition of Elvis Presley decline in the final years.

The kind of stuff you just wish you'd have a book of thousand pages full of it... Thank you so much, The fool !
I'll never understand why David Briggs wasn't pleased with his piano playing on Love Letters in 1966. Especially when you compare it with the remake he requested in 1971. That new version sounds so flat and uninspired by comparison.

In the early sixties, Elvis at his best and on the top of the world.
