Well, to answer the question ... both.

Thanks for the share. It looks like there are a few "new" images in the pages of this magazine, TV Headliner (November 1956). I really like this one, it's an unusual angle.
As usual, it's instructive to see what is written about Presley by the media, in this case Ellen Crane. I've never heard of her, but I suspect the name may be a pseudonym. Nearly all the dates and facts are correct, until the end, which is remarkable.
Elvis calls the flash recording of "That's All Right" at Sun in July 1954 "singin' the way I liked to sing for my own amusement, but I wouldn't have thought of singin' for people."

Several of the quotes are familiar ("Touch him", etc) so I'd say this has been used as source for at least one book.
