This newspaper was too big for my scanner, so I need to post this in several parts. First the cover and how the six pages of the article look like in the magazine.

Re: 1956 Parade article by Lloyd Shearer
Wow, yet another awesome and interesting share. You're like Christmas every time you post a topic. Thank you so much.
This Lloyd Shearer Parade article has always intrigued me. Until today I'd not read his essay, and it is a surprise. Overall, it is a mix of respectful and mildly condescending, which I did not expect. Six years later he taped a deeply sympathetic, fascinating interview with Elvis for another Parade cover story, and this compassion ended up being reflected in the published piece. Here, it seems Shearer is more than a bit leery of who Presley may be and is concerned about being made to look foolish by a "flash in the pan." It's more than a little unexpected.
Also surprising is that almost none of the scores of photos Lloyd took while in Memphis in late July 1956 appear in the magazine. The color cover photo is one (albeit reversed) and just one more is inside (the somewhat unseemly shot of Elvis with his parents) That is another shock, as his photos are marvelous, as we know today. Who told Shearer to put his images away? Hmm. The ones from the Paramount screen test in March 1956 seem new (albeit two are reversed), as does the shot of Elvis at the "Steve Allen Show" camera rehearsal on July 1 ("Don't step on my blue suede boots ...").
Notice that Hal Wallis, Paramount producer, is credited as Tom Parker by the magazine. Oops. A few other errors crop up as well, but that's not surprising. Below are corrected versions of the reversed images. Thanks again!
