Wow, that hit close to home. There's a lot of truth in that story, and, if Elvis read it, one can assume it infuriated him. Perhaps this is one of the "junk" magazines he railed against in 1974.
Why is he working so hard? He can't possibly need the money. How is he keeping himself going as he follows that punishing schedule?

Man, that is an interesting article, if only because it is so stark. Thanks for the share. Nowhere is there any mention of drug or alcohol abuse. But it almost feels like the writer, Z. L. Hastings, secretly knows the entire story, and is trying to send a message.
The article mentions the May 1973 Sahara Tahoe engagement, which went very wrong, and speaks of pleurisy (an inflammation of the lining of the lungs and chest [pleura] that leads to chest pain when you take a breath or cough) as a cause for his problems. This was reported in the press when he went into the hospital in June 1973.

But it was just a "cover story" for the fact that his issues with prescription abuse were becoming dire. Imagine what kind of story would have appeared in this December 1973 issue of Screen Stars had he not survived his near-death crisis in mid-October. The year 1973 was a red flag, without question.

Very interesting article. And very sad because it predicted the sad future. If Elvis readed such an article... It reminds me of the last chapter of Jerry Hopkins first book where it was written that Elvis passion for speed could be dangerous for his kidneys and liver. I think Richard Davis told Jerry about Elvis using uppers.
