Ed Sullivan Show Rehearsals Recorded?

Serving internet I came across the import cd "The Beatles - Live: Conquering America" with Ed Sullivan Show Rehearsals on it (recorded16 February, 1964) and the actual show.

Made me wonder if there's a chance that Elvis' rehearsals for Ed Sullivan were also recorded...
Is this possible?

Possible? Maybe. Likely? Almost certainly not.

The 2-16-1964 example featuring the Beatles was an anomaly. It was an afternoon dress rehearsal, video-taped as a back-up in case the live broadcast that evening failed, since the show was being broadcast remote from Miami.

Can't answer your question, but, I've mentioned it before on here, I'm certain I've seen rehearsal footage from the Sullivan shows, just a few seconds of colour footage, I have a very good memory and for the life of me I'm sure I saw it, I can't imagine how I would confuse it with anything else.

That would have to be private, silent home movie footage, if true. I've never seen any such thing regardless.

Well, as I've said, I've read NOTHING of this, but I'm positive I saw it, it certainly wasn't home footage, it looked pristine.

This was on TV some 30 odd years ago, and IIRC, it was a programme about Cliff Richard, I wasn't expecting to see any Elvis footage. Oh I wish I could be proven wrong or right on this, I can even remember what he was doing in the "Clip" he was standing with his legs apart, arms hanging by his side and he was "twitching" he had the rolled up sleeves....arrrggghh somebody must KNOW.

O no, it had no audio... And clothes were different. Well, just wanted to share this clip, because I like it so much.

I was very sure I saw Elvis singing Way Down live in a clip shown on Dutch television on August 17 1977. I was 12 at that time and just lost my hero. Never saw the clip again, and never saw evidence that Elvis ever sung Way Down live. But I was convinced I saw him. Until recently I saw the clip again in a documentary. Hell! It was an impersonator! And a terrible one it was.

I've pondered on this for years, and the only explanation I can think of is that they showed a clip of Elvis I hadn't seen before, followed by a colour photograph of the Sullivan rehearsal, but, still I'm sure I saw what I saw.

that said, I hadn't seen "All You Need Is Love" documentary since it was aired in the UK in 1976/77 and seeing it on youtube some while back, it amazed me how I'd remembered every detail of it all these years.

I almost not dare to say this ...but i am 90%sure that i saw once a 3 sec. Clip of the rehearsal of the first sullivan show in the late 80's. The thing on tv was not about elvis...there was a narrator and he mentioned several people...and the screen on the tv turns every time then......then he mentions elvis...and i remember sittin him on a piano..playin and lookin to the right (and it was a different angle like that from the liberace thing).......and smiling....in a way like the footage from vegas in56 with liberace..but it was not the liberace backstage footage.....but i remember the shirt....and it was the shirt from the rehearsal of the 1st sullivan show......
There is a picture also somewhere of him playin on piano at the reahearsal...but i am certain...i saw footage of it.......although silent...

it looked like this...although you saw more from his hip while sittin...he wasn`t singin...he just played...looked to the right and smiled ....

Never seen any such clip, but what you describe might be a brief bit of newsreel footage. It would not be from a CBS-TV archived Sullivan rehearsal.

like i said...i don`t know the source of the clip. but not newsreel footage.
cause then we already would have it.
of course there is also doubt on my mind that this is what i think it is...doubt about 10 percent...cause its over 25 years ago i saw that on tv.

but i do remember the shirt on the picture i posted.
and i do remember it in motion.

but since i can`t prove it...its nothing worth...or very little...
but its not like somebody sayin" i saw elvis yesterday at mc donalds"....

cause chances that i saw what i almost sure i saw are considerably higher...

Whatever you might have seen, it was almost certainly not from a CBS-TV source.

Well.....i will never know, i guess or anybody else for that matter...
But iam also almost confident that in some archives(tv stations etc.) Is footage that the people there do not even know on what they are sittin.

Pretty much.

In September 1956, the only way the major networks could preserve live broadcasts was by the kinescope process:

They probably almost never used this for rehearsals, there would be no need.
