Footage & rare pic Magnolia Gardens, August 7, 1955
Besides the Steve Allen clips (see: http://www.elvis-collectors.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=86683 and http://www.elvis-collectors.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=86689&view=unread#unread), the Historic Films Stock Footage Archive also has the well known footage of Elvis in 1955 on Youtube.
I guess I've never seen this clip as long as here before. Have you? Their might be some loops here and there, I don't know, see for yourself:

Yes, it's clearly looped, but there are a few spots which I have never seen before, like the brief one at 2:15 where he is seen without the guitar. Too bad this ultracool era ended so soon.

Yes, you're right. It's looped, but still there are some unseen spots like the one you captured so nicelyMister Moon wrote:Thanks, Mike.MikeFromHolland wrote:Besides the Steve Allen clips (see: http://www.elvis-collectors.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=86683 and http://www.elvis-collectors.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=86689&view=unread#unread), the Historic Films Stock Footage Archive also has the well known footage of Elvis in 1955 on Youtube.

This color, 8mm footage is not from "Spring 1955" but the summer, specifically Sunday, August 7, 1955 at Magnolia Gardens in Houston, Texas. The song Elvis is singing in the footage is "I'm Left, You're Right, She's Gone," the B-side of Sun 217, released in April. The concert clip was captured by Jim and Lois Robinson, who had come that afternoon to see Floyd Tillman perform. The footage was rediscovered in 1987 by son Monty in an cedar chest at home, authenticated and released in October 1998 on VHS:

Early Elvis: The first known film footage of Elvis Presley performing on stage, shot at a recreational area just outside of Houston on Aug. 7, 1955, will be sent to video stores Oct. 20 by Tapeworm Video Distributors. Fans will only be able to see Presley gyrate, not hear him sing, since the event was filmed without sound. Shot by Jim and Lois Robertson of Houston, it shows a 20-year-old Presley performing before about 25 people.

The performance segments from this VHS release were later included as a bonus on the second disc of The Ed Sullivan Shows DVD box set in November 2006. The Historic Films Stock Footage upload above takes more from what was first seen on the original VHS release, which did not feature Elvis. But the Robinsons had a half-hour to fill on that 1998 VHS tape, so every bit was used. About 10 minutes of this day's filming is on the Historic Films website, it's a real slice of what mid-fifties America looked like on a summer afternoon:NAMES & FACES

A new Elvis sighting!
Jim and Lois Robertson of Houston have what is being hailed as the first known film of the singer. Shot Aug. 7, 1955, at Magnolia Gardens, a recreational area near the Texas city, the color clip shows a 20-year-old Presley performing before about 25 people.
Fans can see The King swivel but not hear him sing - it was 1955, for heaven's sake. Videotapes go on sale nationwide Oct. 20.
"The fact that mom was able to get within 8 or 9 feet of Elvis to film him tells you that he was not famous yet,'' said the couple's son, Monty Robertson. "When he walks onstage, he has his head down like he's shy and his hands in his pockets. Then he wiggles around so much that his pants are trying to come down.''
The Robertsons watched their home movie once or twice, then put it away in a cedar chest, where it was found by Monty in 1987 - 10 years after Presley's death.

O yes, I'm very glad that I have a copy of ABFT. But it seems that not all the pictures are at the top of my head yet. There are sooo much

Just looked in ABFT, but this pic is not on the pages covering this period. On what page have you found it? I was wondering who the guy is with which Elvis seems to sing with.

Just look at Scotty's stance and facial expression.
