Aahhh the sound of a real 78 RPM... That's All Right!
The real deal. For those like me, who'll never own one. This is how teenagers really must have heard him 61 years ago, posted by Ronnie Robertson:

The HMV POP 295, 78 RPM of Mystery Train, posted by Robert Duijf. Also a treat for the ears:

Brilliant, Mike !
Such a lot of cr*p is spouted about remastering, to the point that some seem obsessed with it. This is the real deal - what turned people on in 1954/55/56.

Funny it sounds like a 78 RPM digitally processed to me! How can anything on Youtube played through a computer or smart phone, no matter how good one's playback system you may connect your computer to, sound anything like "the real deal"?
It is like those Blu-ray commercials they put on DVDs, you are still only seeing the quality of a DVD picture in those examples they put on the commercial.

You are right, but please, let me dream. I like the film of the spinning record, the sound of inperfection of this clip. Even through the bad sounding little internal speakers of my ipad. Let me dream...skatterbrane wrote:Funny it sounds like a 78 RPM digitally processed to me! When a person purchased a brand new copy of That's All Right in 1954 it did not sound worn out and beat up like in the video, it sounded fresh off the press. THAT was the real deal, and what any quality remastering would be aiming to achieve: the best possible sound reproduction of the recording.Steve Morse wrote:Such a lot of cr*p is spouted about remastering, to the point that some seem obsessed with it. Remember, it too was mastered for original release. If it had been done badly, they would not have been able to cut a record!

I know, I know, when showing the video and writing my comments I was aware, and I still am:Matthew wrote:When a person purchased a brand new copy of That's All Right in 1954 it did not sound worn out and beat up like in the video, it sounded fresh off the press. The mastering process for vinyl includes the step of making sure the needle will not jump out of the groove!matilda wrote:yes, they would. just a bad mastered record.

Must have been a joy to watch. So many (hidden) layers in his work...poormadpeter wrote:That's odd.
