What period do you prefer as a visitor/contributor to FECC?
When I look at the titles of topics in the "ALL ELVIS" area, I notice that topics that mention the seventies in it's title (i.e. 1972, 1976, etc.) attracts more viewers and responses than those that mention years from the fifties for example (i.e. 1956, 1958, etc.).
So I wonder: what period do you prefer? (And why? What attracts you?)
I Prefer the fifties. A lot happened in a very short time.

The 50's. The most dynamic & creative period for Elvis bar none. Consistently high quality output

I like anything, but I'm not bothered if I never see any in concert pictures from 1976 or 77 ever again.
Re: What period do you prefer as a visitor/contributor to FE
There should be an option for 'anything'. I really don't mind what era it's from, but I cannot vote.

I picked 60's: the Welcome Home Elvis period, some movies, HGTA & Guitar Man sessions, '68 Special, American sessions and Returning to live performances.

Re: What period do you prefer as a visitor/contributor to FE
Because the 60's took up a full 10 years, I was inclined to vote for it as well. Started off great, ended great, but some really rough times in-between. But its the only full decade of Elvis we have. Hard to believe, as some rock acts have been going 50+ yrs now.

Re: What period do you prefer as a visitor/contributor to FE
I guess there seems to be a lot more to discuss for the 70s and there is a wider range of opinions.
I do like 50s Elvis but it's the period 1968-1972 that has made me the big fan of him that I am.

It's great hearing from fans that actually experienced the 50's. I thought Lennon's quote summed it up well…r&b wrote:Because the 60's took up a full 10 years, I was inclined to vote for it as well. I'm happy to read about and discuss all of his career but due to the nature of what I'm currently working on I have focussed on the 24 months from July '54 - July '56 of late.

I read all but my main interest lies in the 70's..
Thanks to Ernst Joergensen, Roger Semon and Erik Rasmussen for the great work. Keep the spirit alive !
Re: What period do you prefer as a visitor/contributor to FE
I voted the 60s because of the vast variety, plus his best two albums ever, Elvis Is Back and From Elvis In Memphis. I also like Vol3 of his Golden Records best of the 5 volumes. But I am guessing the 70s will win out here.

Re: What period do you prefer as a visitor/contributor to FE
I love anything from 1954-1973*. 1974 I'm spotty on, but he gave a lot of good shows that year. I like some 1975 shows, but 1976 and 1977 do nothing for me (aside from the late Dec '76 tour and maybe 2 or 3 '77 shows).

Re: What period do you prefer as a visitor/contributor to FE
Impossible to answer, because it depends on my mood, what time of year it is, or sometimes FTD or Sony releases a special CD from a particular decade which then fires my enthusiasm for that decade, etc. There is gold - and lots of it - to be found in every decade. The huge variety is part of what makes it so fun to be an Elvis fan.
Having said that, though, I choose the '60s. Look at all those great things he achieved: the "Elvis Is Back!" sessions, the incredible vocal on "It Hurts Me", his best movie "Blue Hawaii", which also had a very nice soundtrack, my guilty pleasure soundtrack "Harum Scarum", the way he looked in 1968/1969, the ultra-cool groove and vocal on "Too Much Monkey Business" (never heard anything like it), the Memphis sessions, the live performances, the title song for "Girl Happy", etc. Woooo!

I'll go along with that……..

That statement should be followed by IMO. No way do many of us feel that was his best movie. In fact, its one of the reasons why I cannot vote for the 60's. Title song from Girl Happy? You like the King sounding like Mickey Mouse?Keith Richards, Jr. wrote:Impossible to answer, because it depends on my mood, what time of year it is, or sometimes FTD or Sony releases a special CD from a particular decade which then fires my enthusiasm for that decade, etc. There is gold - and lots of it - to be found in every decade. ALL of the above is "just my opinion", of course.r&b wrote:That statement should be followed by IMO. No way do many of us feel that was his best movie. As for the "Girl Happy" song, well, needless to say it isn't a masterpiece BUT it never fails to put a smile on my face - it's another of those guilty pleasures, I guess, I just love the damn song. Put it in there to annoy people, mostly.

I like the song too (as far as film title songs, there are worse), but my goodness the production values on it. Not only the sped up voice, but the mix & balance. And this is almost 5 yrs after the brilliant production values on Elvis Is Back! Who was guiding the ship on that one? Terrible result.Keith Richards, Jr. wrote:ALL of the above is "just my opinion", of course.r&b wrote:That statement should be followed by IMO. No way do many of us feel that was his best movie. Utter brilliance, I couldn't believe it. Later I found out that my vinyl LP was somehow mastered too fast. And I was somewhat disapointed with the song as heard at the correct speed although, of course, it was still brilliant... But to this day I prefer my slightly messed-up copy.

Re: What period do you prefer as a visitor/contributor to FE
I prefer the period 1953-1977, when Elvis was an active artist. I just wish he could have lasted longer, gotten healthy, and done more great things.MikeFromHolland wrote:When I look at the titles of topics in the "ALL ELVIS" area, I notice that topics that mention the seventies in it's title (i.e. 1972, 1976, etc.) attracts more viewers and responses than those that mention years from the fifties for example (i.e. 1956, 1958, etc.).

I'd have to agree with the Doc on this one, 1953 to 1977.
