You're right. And fake pictures are even sold on eBay as "very rare". For example, now on eBay:

Editor-in-Chief Isto Lysmä wrote an article in Suosikki (favourite) magazine in summer 1963: “Elvis Presley vieraili 29.6. Helsingissä” (Elvis Presley visited Helsinki 29.6.). Two photographs printed in the magazine bear witness to the megastar’s visit. Negatives found in photo agency Valokuvaamo Foto Jatta’s archive reveal how these pictures were made: photos of an unknown assistant and of Elvis Presley were combined using reprography, cutting and pasting. The print-outs in the exhibition are of the manipulated image and of the pictures used to make it.

This is a backstage photo of Bill Haley with Elvis, taken by WERE Radio (Cleveland) disc jockey Tommy Edwards in October 1955.

Researcher Chris Kennedy found a trove of such Edwards photos and published them in a superb book called 1950s Radio in Color: The Lost Photographs of Deejay Tommy Edwards. It's a fantastic work for anyone who loves this era of rock 'n' roll radio. The above shot is cropped, but clearly from the original negative which Chris published in 2011.

We see Elvis with French singer Mireille Mathieu and 64 year-old producer Joe Pasternak at MGM Studios - March 1966

Mireille was 19 at the time, brought to the U.S. by Pasternak for a possible film role. She had a guest spot on the Sunday, March 6, 1966 "Ed Sullivan Show."

You are right, this is the original. But as you might have noticed a lot of pictures are missing from my OP. The fake one in which this picture of Elvis was used is one of them being missed now. (I used direct links to the pictures in stead of downloading them from those sites and uploading them here).

In that photo, someone just removed the man in the middle, producer Joe Pasternak. No way is this guy going to miss out on a PR photo at MGM with Elvis Presley. The script they are holding is from his production company.

Ironically, despite all the promotion, no film was ever made by him with his teen-aged French singing star.
