Elvis' weirdest suit ever?
.
This is old footage, posted on YouTube in 2008 already, but this afternoon I saw it for the first time. I didn't know what I saw. Is it the quality of the footage or is this really his weirdest suit ever?
Can you think of others as weird?

Re: Elvis' weirdest suit ever?
It's really not a bad suit, and to be fair it wasn't made for stage wear to begin with if I recall correctly. It's much better than the jumpsuits he wore the next two years. Here's some better quality footage.

Thank you!
I think it's still a bit weird looking when you see him upfront against a dark/black background.
The jumpsuits weren't that weird in his last years his body shape was, which made them look weird. But that is my humble opinion. This Penguin suit looks strange to me no matter what shape he would have been.
Never seen those photos before, by the way. Nice share!

Don't agree it were a lot. But if you think so: what do you consider the weirdest?Davelee wrote:Elvis wore a lot of weird suits in the 70s....

Apart from the Eagle suit he wore in Aloha, I think the suits with animals on them were a little odd, like the tiger suit and the Phoenix suits.

And the eagle suit. Was there a tortoise suit? A cramp suit? A spider's web suit?Hobbes wrote:Apart from the Eagle suit he wore in Aloha, I think the suits with animals on them were a little odd, like the tiger suit and the Phoenix suits.

This outfit conveys the fact he didn't want to be there, and didn't want to perform. It looks like he's ready to get on the plane back home.
After July 1975, things in general got very, very weird. And sad. That this was probably around the time he knew his guaranteed lead role in "A Star Is Born" was off the table cannot be a coincidence.

Re: Elvis' weirdest suit ever?
I believe this was one of his 'flying suits' for traveling (there is a photo with a similar blue one). I read somewhere that he was late for this show and did not have time to change into his usual jumpsuit. So he went on stage with it.
The weirdest suit I have seen is in the great FTD book 'Fashion for a king'. He was photographed after his show in 1975. He wore a 2 piece brown leather suit with what looks like champagne glass designs on the front. Awful looking suit!

Mexican sundial is better than Penguin suit by far imo.

Nice observation, Doc. I never looked at that outfit with that kind of perspective before.drjohncarpenter wrote:This outfit conveys the fact he didn't want to be there, and didn't want to perform. It looks like he's ready to get on the plane back home.

Seeing Elvis wearing his 'street clothes' on stage during an aborted Vegas engagement and then wearing his stage attire on the street in Memphis while strolling around the car dealership parking lot during the same timeframe is telling and disturbing.drjohncarpenter wrote:This outfit conveys the fact he didn't want to be there, and didn't want to perform. Re: Elvis' weirdest suit ever?
Every time I see this photo, it reminds me of that horrible movie "Elvis And The Beauty Queen". I remember the first (and only) time I seen it, and cringing when "Elvis" goes to the cinema in his jumpsuit. I thought how daft it was. Then, years later, I seen this photo....!!!JimmyCool wrote:I agree...Tmorelli01 wrote:Seeing Elvis wearing his 'street clothes' on stage during an aborted Vegas engagement and then wearing his stage attire on the street in Memphis while strolling around the car dealership parking lot during the same timeframe is telling and disturbing.

I remember thinking the same exact thing when I saw that movie on TV in the early 1980's! Re: Elvis' weirdest suit ever?
I would have to say the weirdest suits were the white and blue bicentennial (prehistoric bird) suits. Apart from being the worst looking and fitting suits, what is that design supposed to be? I know it's some kind of birds but it just doesn't make any sense. Except for the weird bird heads, the rest of it just doesn't look like anything recognizable.

Re: Elvis' weirdest suit ever?
I pretty much like everything up through Aloha for the most part. Love 1969-70, and the cape suits with the grommets on front. I agree that some of the animal designs were a bit odd (even though the embroidery work was beautiful). Would like to have seen him transfer back to the two piece look when he was heaviest (or most bloated).
My parents saw him in Vegas the season he wore the North Beach leather suits. She said they were really beautiful in person, but that Elvis pulled at the jacket constantly almost to the point of distraction.
