Gettin back to the song "Walk Away"...
Checked on Youtube under Matt Monro(e)
( spelled both ways) and there's the following
Monroe/ Presley connections :

Walk Away

Softly As I leave You

Portrait Of My Love

The Impossible Dream

All 4 big chart hits for mr. Monroe...
He was from England and launched
as the Sinatra from England.
Only his voice was much more warm
than that of Frankie.
Check the above titles, they are
Quality !!

Interesting, to be sure. Can you add some context?

For example, do you know who wrote "I found this in Elvis' garbage can! 1971"? One assumes the seller of the piece.

Looking at the document as if penned in 1971:

Piano -> Tell Me Why - cut in Jan '57
Where Did They Go Lord? - cut in Jun '70
Promised Land - yet to be recorded
Walk Away - not recorded, perhaps 1966 Matt Monro recording, he ad-libbed a bit at American Sound in 1969 ... could also refer to "It's Over"
My Babe - live in Aug '69
Like A Baby - cut in Apr '60
Such A Night - cut in Apr '60
Reconsider Baby - cut in Apr '60
Trying To Get To You - cut in Jul '55
Fever - cut in Apr '60
The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face / Peter, Paul, Mary - cut in Mar '71
Heart Of Rome - cut in Jun '70
Just Pretend - cut in Jun '70
Piano -> Lawdy Miss Clawdy - cut in Feb '56

---

..

Matt Monro - "Walk Away" (1966)

---

Could the shortlist really have been meant for the November 1970 tour?

Note was found by one of the gate groupies who frequented EP's house(s) in California (it was a common practice for them to rummage thru things in search of goodies).

(Most "stories" with this theme are bogus, . . . . . most, but not all.)

Thanks for sharing it with us all and for telling us how it was found!

Apart from Heart of Rome that´s an impressive song list with quite a few blues songs.

Your thoughts on what the list represented?

Perhaps this was a shortlist of songs to be rehearsed for inclusion in his upcoming November 1971 tour.

"The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" was heard at two shows: Baltimore (November 9) and Dallas (November 13).

He was obviously giving Elvis Is Back! a few spins at that time:

Like A Baby - cut in Apr '60
Such A Night - cut in Apr '60
Reconsider Baby - cut in Apr '60
Fever - cut in Apr '60

thank you, mr. carpenter. Where would we be
without your input on our Echoes threads !
Now for something completely different :
James can't participate here for the next 3 weeks.
Has to do with his job. Willem, boss of this site,
who loves me very, very much, takes over scanning
my stuff and will put it up when time permits him...
Starting with a short but sweet chapter on
Love Me Tender in a few days time.
In the meantime youre welcome to add fun stuff
to keep me and this topic going... I dont exspect
it all to be as "hot" as N8's items, but have a look
and join in here... dammit!
Need to make the 3000 clicks today...
Everything is permitted ( god, the hair is really
desperate these days, isnt he?!), everything
except jumpsuit photos... There's a limit to
everything, right?
Get going, you lazy ba....... !

Hi Ger,

OK, if everything is permitted how a bout a 'sneak peak' at a section of a hand written letter that Gladys Presley wrote to the Governor 'pleading' regarding her imprisoned husband Vernon.... oh, and that little boy she mentions is of course Elvis !
sample.jpg
"My health is bad and I am not able to do the work. I have no mother or daddy and no one to lead to for a living. I have a little boy 3 years old. Please send him home to his wife and baby."
Now there's an historic Elvis related document if you ask me ! :smt002

secret on a book / topic youre preparing someday,
somewhere...? Can we mortals on fecc and
elsewhere get a taste of what youre up to?
Thank you for sharing the 1938 letter from Gladys.

Now, as I was rightfully pointed out,
Paying compliments is one thing,
sharing the goodies is also very much apreciated!

I'm to young a collector to have an impressive collection,
but some of these '50's and 60's Dutch and German
stuff might be new to some of you.

I hope you like them!

Also - I have no scanner, so forgive the picture quality!
DSC00014.JPG
Tuney Tunes from april 1958 with all the relevant song lyrics of that time!
DSC00015.JPG
Inside of the magazine: Mr. Heartbreak Hotel may be walking around as a soldier boy
without sideburns, he still is hot news and rules the hit parade with the tune 'Don't'
DSC00060.JPG
RCA Germany released "Wooden Heart" by it's German title rapidly in a
customized generic sleeve before they came up with a picture sleeve in
the same year! Or was the rca sleeve ment for the export? I don't know...

DSC00062.JPG
I do know that 'Stay Away' was released in it's red cover in Germany,
but especially for the Dutch it came in a blue fold out cover.... nothing
to see on the inside tough, but a nice 45 none the less!

DSC00013.JPG
A Mexican lobbycard for Jailhouse Rock from the late 1950's...

the last postcard , with guitar from the Dorsey
Show rehearsal is one rare mother, Niels!
What is seen is the earliest printing of this
particular postcard on thicker paper stock than
the more familiar ( for us Dutch, and German
neighbours ) later glossies without a white
border. Ive seen very few printed this way.
Probably late 56, early 57...
I got into my weekly photocard fix around
1958, at the sweet age of seven. Saturday
mornings, I would visit 2 book&office supplies
shops in my neigherhood to buy one new card.
They knew me after a while coming to the
shops, and without a word spoken, the lady
behind the counter would pull out a box from
underneath, and sat it in front of me. "Only
touch them on the sides, we wont want
fingerprints on them, understand?".
Carefully I would lay all the Elvis cards on the
counter, studied them, and finally make a
choice which one to bring home for inclusion
in my Elvis scrapbook...
Sometimes, my mom would give me some extra
pocketmoney to buy a large glossy. Those
were 50 Dutch cents, while the regular size
was 15 cents. I was a die hard already at age
seven, spending "so much" on my hero every
week. After the hunt for photocards, the next
stop would be the local snackbar for 'patat'
( french fries ) and a coke. And 3 Elvis records on
the Juke Box. On sundays, my friends and I always
went to the local cinema, no matter what
film was shown. By sunday evening all my
pocket money for the week was spent...
But it was spent wisely.

Spent very wisely indeed;)
I love to hear those old stories!
Thank you very much sir!

About the postcard, thanks for dating it!
I didn't know it to be from the Dorsey Stage Show,
Nor to be that old. Thanks!

I like the old stuff -the days Elvis had pimples like I had;)
Anyway, this one is a copy of a window poster for a record shop.
Not original -I picked it up somewhere.
DSC00072.JPG
To me it was relevant to find out the rare german singles
"I Got Lucky - Girls Girls Girls" and "The Walls Have Ears - Song Of The Shrimp"
were actually sold in the Netherlands. Unfortunalty I had to pay a little more than
Fl 3,95 to have them in my collection.

Best Wishes,

Niels

Well, it does look like Elvis's writing, but,if you look at the letter "A"s in the list, they are Inconsistent.
