I have it supposed to be from 760424 San Diego. As usual, I don't remember where and when I've got the information.

You've never walked in that man's shoes or seen things through his eyes
Or stood and watched with helpless hands while the heart inside you dies
So help your brother along the road no matter where you start
For the God that made you, made them too, these men with broken hearts

It's from San Diego's Lindbergh Field on 4-24-1976 (Sat). Lots more photos here:

The next night in Long Beach he'd have both the Eagles and Olivia Newton-John in the audience.

IIRC these images were taken by Sean Shaver.

Or, taken by someone else and published by Sean Shaver.

Couple of questions:

1. If this is San Diego (not saying it isn't), why does the van have the Hilton logo on top of it?
Was EP staying at the San Diego Hilton?

And,
sandiego76.jpg
2. Is that Sandy Miller (Vernon's fiancee) in yellow exiting the plane behind Elvis?

That sign almost looks like it says "Denver Hilton". Elvis played Denver on April 23rd 1976 and he was supposed to have stayed at the Denver Hilton hotel.

Well, it might say that, but maybe not, too. Both of those words have six letters, but the top one in the photo clearly runs much longer than the bottom one. Too bad the image is poor quality.

It does look like the paper in Elvis' hand on the stairs is still in his hand as he walks towards his vehicle, which would put them all to San Diego.

The sign is just not clear enough to tell for sure what it says but it does sort of look like it could say DENVER HILTON. Even though both words have 6 letters, Hilton would be shorter because of the "i"in Hilton. The paper in his hand looks like it could be a tabloid style newspaper. The Rocky Mountain News was a tabloid style newspaper. If this picture is of him arriving in San Diego, that could be the infamous 3/24/76 issue of the Rocky Mountain News that had a picture of Elvis impersonator Johnny Harra on the cover with the caption: "Elvis, of course".

The Rocky Mountain News photographer snapped a picture of Harra thinking he was Elvis as he came into the arena before the show. The newspaper printed a retraction on the cover the next day with multiple pictures of actual Elvis and the caption: "Elvis, of course, wasn't Elvis at all."

I don't have any information about the date of this picture. Whilst trying to find a detail that can help us, I've noticed that it seems that Red West did not wear the same trouser on both pictures. I let you all discuss about this :

I don't think that is Red in the second picture. I think that could be Dave Hebler.

Isn't the man with the moustache and sunglasses in these pictures Denver cop Ron Pietrafeso? I seem to remember that from the three part interview in The Man and His Music a few years back. He was hired for this tour.

You know, that version of "Dixie" and uh, the "Battle Hymn of the Republic," it's so beautiful!
The band he's put together is so over-the-top, and only Elvis would have that kinda spending power, and just audacious craziness. Choirs, and orchestras, and a great rhythm section, maybe another gospel group on the side. None of it makes sense until you suddenly hear something like that, and they're all playing a role in that, and it's very moving music. That's the pure joy of music in the man. You know, that's when I see everything stop.

Yeah that does look like Ron Pietrofesso. His mustash looks shorter than in January but he could have trimmed it.

Interesting story, thanks for sharing. Pretty bad mistake by the paper.

I've posted my experience of this before. I was at that show and about 20 minutes before the show started the crowd started screaming and pointing to just behind and above us. We turned around and looked up and there was Harra, flanked by 2 security guards. For a couple of seconds I actually thought it was Elvis too and I remember thinking, "Wow, he really looks bad!" But then I quickly realized it wasn't Elvis. The security guards led him down to about the 4 row from the stage. The next morning, this was the picture on the cover of the paper.
