Re: Show magazine, September 1956
These are always a treat. Are all those "Stage Show" images unseen elsewhere? And do you know if they're from March 17 or March 24, 1956? Most are, of course, from the dress rehearsal. The fool wrote:The truth about that Elvis Presley rumpus

The text is fun, but there are no revelations within. The cover is awesome.
Thank you for posting this.

One of the photos has the words 'On The Air' in the background.drjohncarpenter wrote:How do you know these were taken during the live broadcast?hilton22000 wrote:Rehearsal, of course, there is no tie

Could that be confirmation that they were taken from the live show?

You're right, Bodie, we can see the audience and "on the air" words. And the bow closing looks like in video, same position.
But, without a certain prove, we can't be sure, can be the dress rehearsal - but i really don't think that, i don't think they do a dress rehearsal in front of an audience.

Re: Show magazine, September 1956
I agree that the photos with the tie are from the live show. And probably all are.
There were two rehersals, one with Scotty Bill and D.J. wearing the white shirts they wore at the live broadcast and one where they wear different clothes.
So the rehearsal with the guys in white shirts was probably the dress rehearsal where Elvis wore the same clothes as for the live broadcast except for the missing tie.
Another question. Was the dress rehearsal filmed? In Wertheimer´s "Elvis 56" there is a photo from the dress rehearsal where you see a cameraman in action.
Or was he just checking the different angles in which to film the live broadcast?
Sincerely
Brian

When I was a child I was a dreamer,
I read comic books and I was the hero of the comic book
And I saw movies and I was the hero in the movie
So every dream I´ve ever dreamed has come true a hundred times.

Re: Show magazine, September 1956
The clock on the wall appears to read 7:25pm, and the show went on the air live from 8:30pm to 9:00pm. In the same shot you can also see a TV monitor with Elvis and the Blue Moon Boys. But the presence of the crowd must mean the clock reading is not distinct enough to declare the photos from a rehearsal.Bodie wrote:One of the photos has the words 'On The Air' in the background.drjohncarpenter wrote:How do you know these were taken during the live broadcast?hilton22000 wrote:Rehearsal, of course, there is no tie

In general, most of the close-up Presley TV shots we have are from rehearsal, and that makes sense. No director wants the distraction of a photographer while trying to manage all personnel and guests during a live broadcast. All of these shots from the live broadcast are taken from stage left. Perhaps someone working the show was a Presley fan. One may also recall Al Wertheimer's close-up shots of Elvis in New York on July 1, at the Hudson Theater for his appearance on Steve Allen's program, all derive from rehearsals. The few broadcast shots published later came from Al positioned somewhere stage right.
It is unlikely any Presley "Stage Show" rehearsal was archived using the kinescope process, that was reserved for the actual broadcast.
