This appears to be a rip-off of an April 2012 Straight Arrow release, CD1 to be exact.

They also mis-date the show, which is astutely noted on the SA release as Saturday, September 2, 1972 Special 3AM Show.

Why is it astute?

On Saturday, September 2, 1972 there were so many people that wanted to see Elvis that the oversold dinner and midnight shows were not enough -- so management approved a "special 3AM show" to accommodate these fans.

In the same manner that Elvis' midnight show of September 2 actually began in the early hours of the next day, so too does this "special" gig. But both belong to Saturday -- this is when the fans came to see the King, not Sunday.

Only the chronologically-challenged get confused on this point. Fortunately, they are few in number.

The correct order is..

Sept, 2, 1972 DS
Sept, 2, 1972 MS
Sept, 3, 1972 3 am
Sept, 3, 1972 DS
Sept, 3, 1972 MS

Oh..how I hate those dates with daytime, John..

You have fun, but Straight Arrow got it right.

Otherwise, you will have to re-date all your Vegas midnight shows from 1969 to 1975, since Elvis usually went on after midnight.

That would be really stupid.

To make it clearer:

Sept, 2, 1972 DS, Sat
Sept, 2, 1972 MS, Sat
Sept, 3, 1972 3 am, Sun
Sept, 3, 1972 DS, Sun
Sept, 3, 1972 MS, Sun

The 3 am show was added after the MS of Sept. 2 and belonged to the morning
of Sept 3. We cannot change history. So basically Straight Arrow was wrong.
But of course it belonged to the business day of Sept 2 cause a business day in Vegas
lasted till 6 am of the next morning. So Sept. 2, 3 am would refer to the morning of Sept. 3.
Seeing it from the Vegas business point of view Straight Arrow was "right".
And therefore my midnight shows don't have to be re-dated, John.

Thanks for your input guys.

According to Elvis Concerts, this CD is a new release for March 2014, of the dinner show, so the video above i am guessing is of this show and not the 3am Show.
The person who posted this video may have the time wrong.

Thanks for posting this footage. Love that outfit, and the macrame belt. He should have kept that look as long as he was able to pull it off...much better than the big belts.

But it is still counted as the 2nd even though it's past midnight because all three shows would have "tickets" dated as the 2nd not the 3rd (unless this can be confirmed by an actual ticket). The midnight show is actually the last show of the day not the first.

For the 1972 Summer Festival, we weren't issued tickets. We just made reservations. I made mine through the mail. Once in Vegas, we then confirmed our reservations. At that time, the Sunday 3 am show had just been added, so I made a reservation for that as well, right on the spot!

Although no tickets were issued, there were stacks of postcard sized ads for the extra show all around the Hilton. They were printed in a wide variety of colors. I picked up a huge stack to share with fans back in the UK.

Yes, SUN-RCA, that's the jumpsuit Elvis wore for the 3am show. I actually got to see him 12 times that season and about the same for the 1974 Summer Festival. Also saw him many times at Graceland and around Memphis in October 1970. Great times!

Not at all, Joachim.

The Hilton (or management) printed those up that so the fans who couldn't get into the dinner and midnight shows that Saturday night did not go home and come back the next evening.

As already noted, Straight Arrow got this right, and we have many here who have clearly detailed why, not just me.

It's called common sense, and I am wearing myself out trying to convince you to embrace it. ;-)

Guys, I certainly don't want to cause trouble or add to any confusion. However, I would like to add that these cards advertising the 3 am show were all over the Hilton when I got there on Thursday, August 31. I picked up a stack of them when I confirmed my reservations for all the shows I was going to see. I also made a reservation for the 3 am show and the Thursday midnight show at the same time.

At the time, we were told Elvis was doing the 3 am show so that folks who worked in the hotels and casinos could have a chance to see him. Tom Jones was in the audience for that show, too.

Thanks for the additional information. The common lore about all of these "3am" Elvis gigs, whether they were from Las Vegas or Lake Tahoe, was that they were added after the first shows of that night were oversold, and there were still a bunch of fans who came that evening who were hoping to see him. Maybe yours is the exception, or perhaps it is the rule. Another mystery to solve!

No, it's not the same show, as Elvis didn't sing "For The Good Times" neither during the Midnight Show nor the 3 AM Show.

I was just thinking..John....Lake Tahoe May 13, 1973 3 am show as released on Takin Tahoe Tonight...must then be re-dated to May 12th.. The 3 am show took place in the morning hours from May 12 (Sat) to May 13th (mother`s day, Sun). According to your understanding it belongs to May 12.
I might be wrong, though when the show took place in the morning from May 13 (Sun) to May 14 (Mon). But I don't think so.

Not sure why you are asking me this question, as my view is very consistent on this.

The show in question is the third in a row on what we might call one business day for Elvis.

Only for the first one is Elvis actually on stage on May 12th, but all belong to that business day.

People were in Lake Tahoe on a Saturday night to see Elvis, and those who did not get in for the first two performances that evening were able to see him for the extra-added third performance.

Saturday, May 12, 1973 Dinner Show
Saturday, May 12, 1973 Midnight Show
Saturday, May 12, 1973 Special "3AM Show"

Give the hard-core fan some credit for actually being able to understand this.
