EPSS 2.0 (Elvis' Movie/Publicity Photo Shoots)
We decided to post this here so everyone who may be interested can see it, but if the mods want to move it to another section, feel free to do so.
Some may remember our site simply called "EPSS", and the topic connected to it - Elvis' Movie/Publicity Photo Shoots. With a little help from Jordan we've updated the site again, tried to make it a bit more 'modern' and hopefully easier to use and browse. Since the site has been updated we thought we'd start a fresh topic for it as well as the last one is already some 22 pages long. However, it (the topic) will still remain and can easily be accessed from this topic.
In anycase, the new EPSS;
--> http://elvicities.com/~epss/
The layout should be a little easier on the eyes and as one new addition, the "co-stars" folder is completely gone - all the co-star shots have been added to their respective folders which should make it easier to locate certain actors/actresses photos for specific movies. Also, the 'navigation panel' below the banner is a new feature and makes it faster to switch between folders - just hover your mouse over the years and the folders from those periods will be listed.
Everything else should be about the same (even the address), only dressed in a new outfit - the project will still continue as usual and even between the switch from the old site to the new one, we've found a good twenty-ish new photos. The stuff from Keith Russell's collection are quite cool, even if watermarked (see Clambake folder, for example).
If you have any interest in the subject, we have almost 2700 photos listed and are constantly not only looking for more, but also trying to find more 'general information' about the shoots (dates, photographers and names to unidentified co-stars) - we hope you enjoy the new site and as usual, if you have any questions, corrections, additions, photos, anything, you can either post them on this topic or contact us through email (can be found on the "credits" page).

Wow,
great website, thank you very much. Can i ask something right away. The Love Me Tender section is huge but none of the shots with Debra Paget are placed. Is that because of the 'fact' this photo session was made on set and not in studio? I would love to se a full set of these pics, ill enclose too. What a beauty.

I doubt it as it's just for movie publicity stills.

Re: EPSS 2.0 (Elvis' Movie/Publicity Photo Shoots)
Most of the photos are movie-related, but not all of them. This is from the site :Tony.. wrote:I doubt it as it's just for movie publicity stills.
In fact, you can find the 1955 Speer photos, and the 1956 Hecht photos, for example, so it's not all movie-related, clearly.Welcome to EPSS (“Elvis Photo Shoot Sessions”)
EPSS offers a large collection of ‘official’ Elvis photos that were taken in a studio setting to be used for all kinds of promotional and publicity purposes
The Sun era publicity portraits would indeed be a great addition to an already well researched and interesting site.

Great work, and a really super site , thanx ...........
The image is one thing and the human being is another. It’s very hard to live up to an image, put it that way.
Re: EPSS 2.0 (Elvis' Movie/Publicity Photo Shoots)
Thanks to everyone for the kind comments! They're greatly appreciated and makes it all worthwhile.
@nicolaas - yes, you'd be correct... we haven't added those photos as they're indeed on-set shots. Their purpose was basically the same (publicity photos) but at this moment we're trying to keep it strictly (with only one exception) studio photo shoot sessions as otherwise the project would get massive and to be honest, we have our hands full with it just as it is. Even right this moment we're working on a good stack of shots that will be added in as we go - will post some of them on the forum later in the week.
@K.C. - you're absolutely right, those SUN era photos should be in as well. For some reason we've overlooked them, possibly because there seems to be only one/two photos per session but now that you mentioned it, we will certainly create a little something for them as well. We'll keep you updated.

Are the photos supposed to look all squashed up? It's difficult to see them as a whole.

Re: EPSS 2.0 (Elvis' Movie/Publicity Photo Shoots)
Here's one from Speedway that I suspect may be "on set" but the background is just airbrushed. What do you think? Is it maybe from the studio photo shoot?
I scanned it from the booklet that came with the Elvis Aron Presley box set from 1980.

Re: EPSS 2.0 (Elvis' Movie/Publicity Photo Shoots)
@Tony.. - what photos would those be? Everything seems to work just fine at my end.
@greggers - I've always thought that's indeed an on-set shot with a removed background. If you can find any alternates to it maybe that'll solve it?
We've added a little section for the (remaining) SUN period publicity shots as well and at this moment they're located in the Speer folder. The title needs a little tweaking but at least the photos are now added in. We felt that could possibly be the best (most logical) place to have them in.
--> http://elvicities.com/~epss/gallery/w-speer-1955/
We've tried to fit some information about each photo on the actual photos (seen when you click on them) but if anyone has any additional information, possible missing photos, just contact us and we'll work on it.
Thanks for the great tip, K.C.

No, I haven't been able to find any others like this (with the guitar, wearing that exact outfit) so it probably is just an airbrushed on-set shot.@greggers - I've always thought that's indeed an on-set shot with a removed background. If you can find any alternates to it maybe that'll solve it?
Once again, thanks onelove, honkytonk and jordan for the site update, looks fantastic!!
Re: EPSS 2.0 (Elvis' Movie/Publicity Photo Shoots)
We've been adding in some quite nice quality photos in the last week or so, one of them being fairly rarely seen, too - an 'alternate' for the shot that was used on the cover of the FTD "Too Much Monkey Business".
There are also some 'upgrades' of certain photos to be found from the '68 folders - the shot that was originally used on the 45rpm sleeve for "A Little Less Conversation/Almost In Love" single... also the very last photo in the "Elvis" (1968) folder, we finally managed to find a much better, much more complete version of it and it's now in there. Great shot.

We hope you enjoy the site - more to come in the coming weeks...

We've added another bunch of new shots, along with a couple upgrades - one of them being a good quality version of one of the "Double Trouble" shots of Elvis wearing shades, but the coolest upgrade is a very clear version of the shot that was used on the single sleeve for "Suspicious Minds". It is the most complete version of the photo I've personally seen to date - can be found from this link (the first photo with the yellow background);
--> http://elvicities.com/~epss/gallery/the-trouble-with-girls-1968/
The Clambake folder gets a full five new shots although only one of them is of Elvis - the "co-stars" section in the folder is really growing and already has more photos than some Elvis folders... with more to come in the very near future.

Not sure if these costar photos were actually taken at the official shoot for Follow That Dream, but definitely around the same time. What do you think?

Re: EPSS 2.0 (Elvis' Movie/Publicity Photo Shoots)
Thanks for the links Greggers. We came across a whole heap of similar shots from that two co stars that have now been added in.
The description just above the co stars photos in the Follow that Dream folder gives our thoughts as to where and when these shots could of been taken.
http://elvicities.com/~epss/gallery/follow-that-dream-1961/
Alongside that bunch of photos were some shots of two mysterious women. We have no idea of their names, or what part they played, if any. Having run through the dvd, we can't seem to find them. If anyone knows any information of their names, or where they feature in the movie, then please contact us.
