The one from the side with the lmt-lyric sheet is from the rehearsals for the 1st Sullivan show.and not from this recording session.

Already thought his shirt was somewhat different. Deleted it. Thanks for the correction!

Another nice topic!

This was Elvis' very first session in the West Hollywood studio on 7000 Santa Monica Boulevard known as Radio Recorders. IIRC, more dates were booked here than any other studio in his career.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Radio_Recorders
http://www.scottymoore.net/studio_radiorecorders.html

One suspects most of these images are cropped, and that many, many more made. Imagine a nice box set of all extant September 1956 tapes (along with perhaps some "lost" reel recoveries) with a quality book of photos from this day, plus September 2 and 3. I'd buy it in a nanosecond.

Here's a bit more information on two of your posted photos:

With Radio Recorders head engineer Thorne Nogar - Saturday, September 1, 1956
Elvis loved Nogar, and called him "Thorny."

With Tom Parker and RCA executive Steve Sholes - Saturday, September 1, 1956

Note that two of the photos are well-known, but usually only in cropped form:

Thanks for the additional info, guys!

I'll post other photos found elsewhere here as well, when they were take between September 01 and 03, 1956. Just to give some more substance to this thread.

With thanks to all FECC members involved for finding and sharing these pictures.

Any guesses what the songs were they sang by the piano...? Would be nice to have a tape of all these jam-sessions...probably gospels?

Usually it was gospel songs, but these photos apparently capture secular songs:

Warming at the piano, Elvis runs his hands idly along the keys. At the sound of the first note, the Jordanaires, led by Gordon Stoker, come in from the hall coffee machine, cups in hand they join Elvis around the piano. After a few opening bars of the old standard "Blue Moon," which Elvis plays hauntingly, eyes almost closed, he breaks into a raucous "Hound Dog," singing playing, and tapping both feet at the same time. The music, penetrating the end of the corridor, summons guitarist Scotty Moore, drummer D.J. Fontana, and bass player Bill Black from the coffee machine.
