1958 birthday tape and more

#1640005

Post by Greg1995 »

1957 "birthday" tape -very good audio quality, Elvis sings couple of songs (Long Tall Sally, Treat Me Nice), in the hands of an old lady.
1969 rehearsal, Hollywood
1970 LV summer engagement - two rehearsals, poor quality
1970 LV September soundboard

Thats all I know from the guy who is a private collector and president of a German fanclub. He has heard the 1957 tape. He told me the lady name but I have forgotten it (something like Jeanne Shepherd, pity i don't remember )

Not quite sure what this post means, but items #2 to #4 are known entities, as far as discussions here. Item #1 is "new," but seems peculiar. If Elvis is singing "Treat Me Nice," the 1957 "birthday" recording cannot have been made any earlier than mid-May. The suggestion that the tape belongs to the (early) surprise party thrown for "King Creole" co-star Jan Shepard's 30th birthday is a good one. But that would be from February 1958.

Jan turns 90 on March 19th! That is amazing. Is she the "old lady"? I hope you meant to write "retired lady."

Also, I sort-of recall talk here about a 1961-era home tape done for a Hollywood producer, with several songs. But I cannot find the discussion. Anyone remember it?

Otherwise, these still remain some of my "Holy Grail" items:

- 1955 "Louisiana Hayride" broadcasts, in Shreveport and remote (post-June)
- 1957 concerts (March-April, August-September, October-November)
- 1960 Golden Gate Quartet jam in Paris (January)
- 1961 concerts in Memphis (February)
- 1965 Beatles jam in Los Angeles (August)
- 1968 home demos in Los Angeles, Palm Springs, Memphis
- 1969 RCA Hollywood rehearsals (July)

Hope springs eternal.

I know from a very credible source that at least one of the Memphis 61 shows exists but in very poor sound...

We've heard that for a very long time, and yet not a single second has appeared anywhere in almost 57 years. Why not have that source tell us exactly what songs are on the tape, where it came from, and what are the plans for it? It's going to turn into dust if another 57 years pass.

I know, I've heard, I've seen, someone told me.... Ok, fine. Where are the goods?

I'm to the point anymore that until anyone can back up their claims with the actual evidence then I will assume that it doesn't actually exist. Pure fantasy.

Do you want to update your topic title? The birthday tape is probably from the date I posted.

A credible source who's name you do not know? Must be a close relationship. I know I trust everyone who's name I don't know.

I don't know the guy, I talked to him on one occasion , he was selling stuff from his collection (japan singles, sun singles, Elvis autographs etc)
He said he is a collector and president of german fanclub so I asked him about rare and unreleased stuff and that's what he told me.
He was very nice and had no intension to lie so I believe him.
Beside the 1957 tape and two 70 rehearsals, I've heard about the rest of the stuff before.

He seems like a credible source TO ME, I've never said that he is a credible source.

Corrected. He said "Jan Shepherd", "birthday", but "1957" though.
IF Elvis wasn't with her at any birthday party in 1957, than 1958 is probably correct.
