I know you didn't ask it. It was my suggestion and I'm really pushing for it if it's on mine when I get it.

To quick for a tape flip, no? I think it's just recording issues.skabillyrebels wrote: ↑Mon Mar 02, 2020 4:54 pmHas anyone noticed a fault on CD 1 at the end of track 11 Elvis Presley - Polk Salad Annie it looks like a tape flip or is it just a fault on my CD?

Re: NEW FTD
Thats how the original tape is. Could be a tape switch...which happened around this time during the shows.
Thanks to Ernst Joergensen, Roger Semon and Erik Rasmussen for the great work. Keep the spirit alive !

I don't think the tape flip/switch idea is true, surely we would have had the entire show then. I think it has more to do with recording troubles.skabillyrebels wrote: ↑Mon Mar 02, 2020 8:18 pmFixed Polk Salad Annie

Re: NEW FTD
The stereo hiss [normally a sign of a tape copy] on both discs is very off-putting.
The cleaner and sturdier right channel should only have been used, which would have also automatically fixed the drop-outs evident on disc 2.
Pretty basic stuff, really.

Re: NEW FTD
Yes, I have spent some time listening to the Love Letters LP.
I like the overall sound quality but would have hoped for some different track choices. I don’t think that the overdubbed masters should have been included at all. Instead I‘d rather see all masters in undubbed form on LP 1 and some select outtakes on LP 2. In general I wish they would release only complete takes on these LP albums as this would make for a better overall listening pleasure. As much as I like complete sessions and the in between banter I am not much of a fan of these on vinyl.
I think the omission that left me puzzled on this one is the undubbed version of I‘ll never know (only the dubbed master of this song is included). Something also feels a bit off in regards to the overall sound. At least they edited out the „ho-ot-damn“ part from Elvis.
Despite all that I still like it and I definitely love the beautiful artwork.

Re: NEW FTD
I've been writing about it for a while. I also don't see consistency in choosing masters for these FTD LPs. I also don't see any reason to put incomplete takes on this kind of release. But...Markus K. wrote: ↑Wed Mar 04, 2020 2:46 pmYes, I have spent some time listening to the Love Letters LP.

I see shopgraceland has moved the ship date up to March 20th now. Seems like they are becoming a joke. Guess I will start ordering elsewhere

So I am glad I didn't spend any money on the what feels like twentieth copy I have of that album in various formats. Even though it might be worth a thousand dollars within the next decadesMarkus K. wrote: ↑Wed Mar 04, 2020 2:46 pmYes, I have spent some time listening to the Love Letters LP.

Good thing you can enjoy it anyway. But they made some really odd choices for that FTD vinyl, man. And yes, not for the first time.
I didn't even listen to "Elvis In California" yet. I am simply not interested in it right now. And then reading something about "hiss and drop-outs" lets me lose my appetite to listen to it even more.

Re: NEW FTD
I would definitely advise against buying the vinyl as an investment only that might or might not work out in the years to come. But if you like vinyl and the FTD vision of albums recreated this might be of interest. Still one of the most odd ones in regard of track choices.luckyjackson1 wrote: ↑Sat Mar 07, 2020 1:15 pmSo I am glad I didn't spend any money on the what feels like twentieth copy I have of that album in various formats. Regarding the California shows I was hesitant at first as well. I‘m not too much a fan of these shows from '74 in general and feel burnt out on soundboards. I gave the first CD a spin and have to say it was good for what it is and I kind of enjoyed it despite my reservations. I only listened to the first four tracks from the second one and despite reports of a slow running tape, hiss and whatever it was enjoyable as well. Don‘t let yourself get discouraged by the negatives that have been brought up. If you find some spare time this weekend give one of the CDs a spin. I‘d dare say you will not be disappointed.
Let me know what you think when you‘ll come around to do it.
Re: NEW FTD
The problem with almost all publications is that there is no real concept. I agree with the previous speaker regarding the "Love Letters" vinyl edition. Why not the undubbed masters of "I'll Never Know" and "The Sound Of Your Cry". We already have the masters on vinyl and it is a collector's addition? I don't understand this policy. I also did not understand why the master of "Put The Blame On Me" was included on "Something For Everybody" instead of Take 2? There are other examples. What is going on in the mind and who washes it?

Re: NEW FTD
Looking forward to the upcoming Sessions-approach to two of RCA's and Elvis' most successful soundtrack releases. From the latest issue of EMM we learn that FTD is working on the Blue Hawaii recordings. Hopefully they will turn to GI Blues after that, it's celebrating its 60th anniversary this year!

Re: NEW FTD
Why G.I blues? We have everything already and if you know how to, it's easy to put it into a sessions release format.drghanem wrote: ↑Sat Mar 07, 2020 4:10 pmLooking forward to the upcoming Sessions-approach to two of RCA's and Elvis' most successful soundtrack releases. A His Hand In Mine sessions box would make a far better release.

All the Nashville 60’s sessions are very well
Covered on the classic albums series, both in completeness and stellar sound quality. The new sessions sets would be quite superfluous, as good as the material is. The same happens with GI blues and Blue Hawaii.
