Where in the following pareagraph did I mention fans of the Animals. "No one, absolutely no one, would go and see them do it, knowing that in the building just in front, or a block from there, there was the possibility that Elvis would open with his version of See See Rider" No one, absolutely no one refers to people who could choose between attending a concert by the Animals and another by Elvis, if the date, the place and the circumstances made it possible. From 1969 until his death, Elvis sang See See Rider 378 times. Given that Burdon broke with the Animals in December of 1968, and then went to tour and record with War that choice between listining to either one sing Rider was not there. LOL

Right. I responded to that by saying fans of the Animals would've gone to see them perform it. If no one else at least their fans would. Fans of the Animals didn't like Elvis.

See See Rider* - On Stage
* as show opener - 4/9/72 Hampton or 4/10/72 Richmond... both very powerful versions. Memphis '74 is good as well.
Proud Mary - I prefer the 1972 versions. 6/10/72 ES is probably the best of them all IMO.

Out of all of Elvis's versions the On Stage 1970 version of C.C. Rider rocks the most. As far as which version of Proud Mary rocks the most both the On Stage and MSG version both rock about the same but the On stage version is a little bit better performed. You can't go wrong with the On Stage live album.

Regardless of whether "No one, absolutely no one refers" to people who could choose between attending a concert by the Animals and another by Elvis, if the date, the place and the circumstances made it possible, myself and I suspect Brian too, am at a loss to understand why you would bring the comment into the debate in the first place if there was no choice. What really was the point?

But back to the song C C Rider - can you clarify at what show or shows Elvis sang C C Rider in 1969. Was it the fast paced version or the slightly slower version.

Forgive me, but my favorite (if I have to pick one) is I love the way Elvis greeted us with See See Rider on June 23, 1974 afternoon show.
Why do you need to be forgiven? Your opinion counts just as much as anyone else's. I think the Rapid City version is a good one with the exception of stopping everything right in the middle of the song for no reason that I can hear. I just never was crazy about the February 1970 versions. I don't dislike them, I just prefer many others.

And I'm not apologizing.

Sorry, what I meant to say with "1969 until his death, Elvis sang See See Rider, bla, bla" I meant the period of his comeback to live performing, although I should have said from February 5 1970, the first time he sang it, till June 26 1977 the last, and not 378 but 586 times. Apparently, it took Elvis seeing Wayne Cochrane at the adjoining Casino Theater for him to make us his mind and discuss it with the TCB band as to how to approach it and get a sort of special arrangement that would be totally Elvis', which it was .

I could listen to Burdon’s version a lot more than Elvis’ which to me gets ruined not so much by the speed, but the brashness of the Vegas orchestration/horns throughout.
Agreed. I always thought C.C. Rider sounded too Vegas or whatever you call it. The studio version of I got my mojo working has that same sound. I thought both songs would've been better with a blues rock sound. They sound like Vegas rock.

Indeed. And there was a missed opportunity for Elvis to do a decent blues/rock album. Could have been a really really big seller.

I don't know that Elvis ever performed C.C. Rider in 1969. I wouldn't swear to it because we don't have every show from 1969 and there are people that know more about that than me. We have people on this board that listen to all the concert bootlegs and they know what songs he sang and when. What hour of the day it was when he sang them. What color socks he wore when he sang them. They know all that. If anyone knows of Elvis singing C.C. Rider in 1969 and the specific date he performed it please help emjel out? I want to know as well.

Hello, I remember a thread a long time ago about the best version of CC Rider , I seem to remember it being from 1970 and maybe no backup singer but cannot remember.
elviscollector101 the OP of this thread wants to know is there a version performed by Elvis without backing vocals. Without backup singers singing on it. I can't recall any but maybe others can. I want to know for sure as well. Please help him.

Looks like Jaime1234 has acknowledged his error regarding 1969 (see above).

I like all the versions that were released during Elvis' lifetime, the " On Stage " version has serious guts but they all rock. I've been listening to a lot of sound boards on YouTube and they all rock too. Elvis really made it his song although I do love Jerry Lee's original Sun Studios version too, but it is a song I always associate with Elvis and yes I love the version that appears on the " Elvis In Concert " ablum.

I have always loved the master from 1970 above all others.

However, from the moment I head the December 28, 1976 version, it had a special place in my heart. "Yeeeaaah SEE!"

The March 20th, 1974 version is sentimental for me. The drum intro is different, as well. I wondered if it was overdubbed because there is no other drum intro like that one.

Probably in the minority... but my favorite version is from January 14, 1973.
No, not really.

I happen to have an affinity for the "Aloha from Hawaii" version, but it's not my favorite.
