Re: Elvis Presley's Madison Square Garden Eyelet Jumpsuit & Cape Up For Auction
350000 is quite an expectation for a suit - the 25000 for the cape seem ridicoulosly low in comparison.
There are also some movie items on offer like the Steve Grayson racing suit from Speedway and the silky suit from Live a little, love a little. All of these items seem to have not aged too well as there is a lot of muddying in the colors.
This is one of the reasons why I'm not a fan of having these items sold to private persons but rather have them safely stored and treated well in a museum where people who are professionally trained can take care of these items and also restore them to their original glory.

A shame that items like these are in private hands...and a mess that the Estate is not willing to get them back to graceland .
25.000 USD for a MSG cape? Hello? Thats nothing....

Re: Elvis Presley's Madison Square Garden Eyelet Jumpsuit & Cape Up For Auction
350K USD for a suit is not a weird estimate.
Vine suit sold for that amount. And this was used in a high profile concert.
I hope Graceland buys it. They don't have ANY of the jumpsuits that Elvis wore at Madison square garden.
the cape is prived very low. But I'll bet de person who buys the suit also wants to buy the cape.
The stone tiger cape was sold for about 50K USD and that one has not even a photo of Elvis wearing it.
I'll bet this cape easily reaches the 50K also.

Hmm, interesting.
That Speedway jacket AND Live a little suit are both in Tunica Hollywood casino.
The Live a little suit there seems to have other buttons.
Are there 2?? if someone is interested, they should contact the casino to see if they are selling.

Re: Elvis Presley's Madison Square Garden Eyelet Jumpsuit & Cape Up For Auction
I remember seeing that MSG suit advertised in an old Record Collector magazine many years ago - maybe late 80's / early 90's. I can't remember what the price was, but it was 10's, not hundreds of thousands. Im sure I've seen a single stud from this suit on ebay for £5k - was it in the Jimmy Velvet collection?
For the record, the Live A Little "suit" was supposed to represent Pyjamas, rather than being a suit. It's part of the dream sequence. Kinda cool.

That stud that is supposed to be from this suit is not genuine.
The type of stud on sale was a type not used for this suit. So there goes the back story.

Now, having seen him perform in that suit... that would be one supremely cool buy.

How can you trust an auction site that is also auctioning this off:

How did these items end up in [private hands, were they from one of Aunt Delta's garage sales?

Sure, but such company investment cannot be justified in these Covid times.
It would be great if some collectors would put their suits on display at Graceland though.

Elvis gifted the outfit to his Memphis hairdresser, "Mr. Gil."

Re: Elvis Presley's Madison Square Garden Eyelet Jumpsuit & Cape Up For Auction
the photos on the site now have a black background. still the same photos.
Elvismatters is giving an estimate (don't know where they got that from, not the acution site itself) an estimate for the jumpsuit of 1,5 to 2 million USD and the cape 200,000 USD.
The way the Jack Lord belt went it could reach a million, but I doubt it would go much over that. But I guess it's very hard to make an estimate as it depends on how many millionaires really want it.
Good investment for the person who bought it. I have the Butterfield pricelists and it went for 75,000 USD in 1995!

Re: Elvis Presley's Madison Square Garden Eyelet Jumpsuit & Cape Up For Auction
All jumpsuits thus far sold in the 21st century have reached six figures from US$150,000 to USD$ 300,000. One of his belts sold for almost US$300,000. I doubt this one will break any records. Elvis' other types of "memorabilia" like a byke, US$ 750,000, a couple of guitars US$650,000 and US$1,3m, or a watch for US$1.8m are what museums want. Jumpsuits, perhaps a Hard Rock Cafe...merry77 wrote: ↑Sat Aug 14, 2021 12:00 amthe photos on the site now have a black background. still the same photos.

Re: Elvis Presley's Madison Square Garden Eyelet Jumpsuit & Cape Up For Auction
the jumpsuit first sold at an auction house in London in 1990 or 1991 called Phillips house. The jumpsuit(cape was not offered at that time) was described at the time with a considerable amount of moth damage. I was fighting for my life with cancer at the time or I would have bid. It sold at that time for $16,000! They buyer at that time of course ended up being Jimmy velvet.

Re: Elvis Presley's Madison Square Garden Eyelet Jumpsuit & Cape Up For Auction
The Speedway jumpsuit there were two of them. One was intentionally distressed for the production the other was not. Somewhere in my files is a candid shot of Nancy Sinatra and Elvis on the set and Elvis his wearing one of the jumpsuits and Nancy is wearing the other as in the photo Nancy's clearly has "Steve" embroidered above the chest. Duplicates is fairly common practice for film production. In fact it's very rare when there is only ONE.
