i do like the 4 'themes' for the release (Christmas/Gospel/Pop/Folk)and that would work well on the 4 cd set!
I'd prefer the chronological order like they did with the Nashville 70 box

There were pop and country subheaders on the FEIN vinyl [though not on the CD set].

That's what I was thinking too. It would make sense to add them on this set. This set looks good as well. I'll get them both (CD and LPs).

Who knows thou if these still exist on master tapes.. as acetate versions might seem out of place

Don't we already have these on the FTD label in really good quality?
It's really aimed at the mainstream market isn't it? As good as it may look, there's not anything new I guess.

If it follows the previous release, it'll have the remixed masters without the overdubs... it doesn't really excite me but I'll probably have to get it for the collection...

i tend to find the remixing and mastering on the legacy editions better, case in point the Nashville 1970 recordings sounding alot better on the legacy release as opposed to their FTD counter parts. I was never too fond of how they mixed the 1971 nashville stuff on FTD

I wonder if any of the missing tape reels have been found. i'm guessing not or there would be more than 4 cds if all the takes from all the 71 songs were included or will we get 2 cds of undubbed masters & 2 cds of outtakes ?
Outtakes and undubbed recordings, as per the sticker on the box.
Do you have a close up of the sticker?

Very close.

We see Elvis leaving the Jaycees Keynote Luncheon, held at the Holiday Inn-Rivermont in Memphis on Saturday, January 16, 1971.

They cleaned up the photo a bit to make him a little thinner looking, less shaggy in hair and sideburns ...

What categorization for that side of the vinyl would you have preferred that would collect all the selction under one umbrella so to speak?
"MOR"?
I think the pop attribute probably says it best - at least I get the intention contrasting the other three.

Yes, me too. I would especially like it if the Christmas songs are kept separate, because I can really only listen to them at Christmas time. You can call it superstition, but as kids our parents strictly ensured that we did only play Christmas songs between the first Advent and Epiphany. And somehow we keep that tradition... So no "Merry Christmas Baby" for me until November, 28th 2021
so take it as a 3-cd-set
and enjoy the bonus christmas disc designed especially for you -
but only between the first advent and epiphany, you hear me !?!?!? :smt018
