Why was it not a #1 smash in May 1971?
Maybe it was because a vapid, childish Rolling Stones single got in the way.

Life is just not fair (pun intended).

Re: My Boy
"My Boy" is the title of a popular song "parce que je t'aime mon enfant" from 1970.
The music was composed by famous French musicians Jean Bourtayre and Claude François, and the lyrics were translated into English by Phil Coulter and Bill Martin.

Re: My Boy
It's a decent version for sure. Not a favourite of mine by a long shot, but it's certainly not the crock of shht this forum would have you believe. It rates much higher than some of the other STAX cuts such as Spanish Eyes, She Wears My Ring, Mr Songman, Love Song Of The Year, Take Good Care of Her etc to me anyway.
TELL IT LIKE IT IS, SON!!! Excusez-moi monsieur ?

Actually, it's the lyrics I truly dislike: "because of you, My Boy." The exact opposite of what a responsible parent would do would be to put the burden of a failed relationship on the kid. Who has to even THINK: "why put you through the hell?"
Creepy. But Harris's rendition is way worse.
