The set arrived in my mailbox yesterday! Great set and I'm grateful these kind of releases continue 44 years after Elvis left us.

Amazon

#63 in All CDs & Vinyl

#15 in Country (CDs & Vinyl) https://www.amazon.com/gp/bestsellers/music/16/ref=pd_zg_hrsr_music
Amazon charts fluctuate by the hour. They are meaningless for the most part. I've had a book climb 15,000 places by selling one copy.
14 hours have passed and it is still #15. LOL

#18 now but #8 on new releases

Using these undubbed masters, I made my own "He Touched me" album playlist although, on second thought, I should change the title...

I think you should actually call it:

"H Touchd M: Nakd"

It should be "He Touched Me: Naked" but I it seems popular right now to remove essential parts of things, so I went along with the "without an e" option.

Actually this one sounds a lot sharper than i remember it, a song i never cared for before. What do you folks reckon about this one ?

I’ve always liked the song but preferred the alternate take from FTD because the mix was so much clearer. I thought the master was very muddy. I absolutely love this new mix. It really rocks at the end with Elvis, James and the background singers really bringing it.

It also benefits from a 20 second longer fade-out than the abrupt crappy master.

Here we go again. Received my set from Amazon. Discs are all stuck in the pockets. Incredibly difficult to remove because of glue on them. As well all discs have bad scratches on them as well as glue residue. Sending it back. Anybody else experiencing this?
I found discs 2 and 3 the hardest to get out. However, I saw no glue residue. If you look closely with light, I see faint scratches on one side where it was rubbing against the cardboard as I was taking them out -- this is for my discs 2-4. However, they are really faint and do not seem to affect playing.

I reckon that, without the never-ending dialogue on disc 3 and 4, they could have provided about ten more takes! Two and a half minutes on Silver Bells (not just before, but after, too!), and half of that is about whether to turn an amp off or not! Riveting.

same here.
i just accept it.
i pre-ordered the complete masters box set.
when it finally came...it took as long to get the cds out as it did to play them.
and they had faint scratches on the back.
and that set cost me a fortune.
all these years later...i just expect stuff like that.
as long as the music plays...i've learned to live with it.
im the only one who will ever see it any way.

I'm listening to this collection off of iTunes, and as a new Elvis fan I had only heard a small fraction of the originals prior to this. I love the gospel numbers the best but really overall I don't have much to complain about. Most of the pop songs and Christmas songs are very enjoyable as well. As far as the "bleeding" of background vocals that people kept talking about on this forum, I've only noticed a little of that on "Love Me, Love the Life I Lead" but am not bothered much by it. Since I don't have the original versions ingrained in my mind, I find it rather easy to appreciate new mixes and un-dubbed or alternative versions. I plan to buy the CD set next month, although I have no CD player I will get to play this on an upcoming long car trip in my parents' car.

I was always under the impression this was an impromptu take, but listening to the beginning of song on the new set it seems as if it was a planned take.

Of course, thats if you just drank Coca Cola you won't miss the rum while drinking a Cuba-Libre without it. : - )

The 70s Studio recordings were mostly recorded with enough 'space" for the post orchestral overdubbings.
The final overdubbed masters are the versions released on his records, "made big" as Elvis wanted them and fans listened to for years. Yeah there are a very few exceptions were a "naked" version could work as well, but IMO mostly not.
"It's Only Love" is a great example. This naked master totally doesn't sound real without the overdubs, the undubbed master is sounding as if some channels are missing, the track lost his dynamic & dramatic sound. Really ok to listen to it to understand the working process if released on a FTD Session box, but releasing it on the public Sony label without following the final Single mix is not a good idea. I would bet thst if our man would be still allive, he would have never agreed to.
... And now Sony even eliminated the backing vocals from the session masters where Elvis wanted them to have on his Studio recordings. That is a "musically Frankenstein work" IMO.

I managed to remove my discs relatively easily, and didn't notice any damage to the discs. However, I'm not a fan of this sort of packaging, and do not store the discs in the original sleeves - once they have been removed, I store them in slim jewel cases. I have done this with all of the 8" Legacy retail sets, and the few FTD session sets that I considered worth buying.

My points:

1.
To me "undubbed" masters means the final take the artist choosed to be the one released later on record.
So if Sony is releasing a take declaring "this Is the undubbed master" it is a just criminal to eliminate something from the session tape the ARTIST wanted to be on there... AT LEAST Sony should have made a remark behind the Song on the box tracklisting like:
*backing vocals removed

2.
the whole box is a "rushed through" producting to release it before the "50 years copyright thing" has ended, but NOT releasing the 2 duets? So they are now "free" to be released on bootlegs. What a foolish decision...
3.
They had not even a concept doing the tracklist. What presenting "Amazing Grace" on CD 1 "isolated" from the Gospel tracks?
4.
Why is there a "false start" before "The First Time Ever I Saw Her Face" where we can hear Ginger Holladay and when the undubbed master starts she is removed??? I'm really lost for words...
5.
The piano was recorded for the first time on two-tracks which gave the possibillity to create a great stereo panorama but here one the box the piano playing was mixed down to mono. What a mess...
6.
BUT as a friend of mine said:
"Now as I have paid for that box I have to find something positive so that I am not totally frustrated.
AND yes there is ONE great thing for Burton fans. We can hear his fantastic guitar playing constantly on the left channel. So listen to the box concentrating on James and you can listen to a great guitar playingJames Burton box feat. also Elvis adding his great voice to it." : - )
I have the impression I've read this somewhere before :? :smt005

Although it's almost a crime to say so on this forum, I've liked Padre since Day 1 (1973).

It's a passionate performance . . . but no doubt saying such will invoke the usual derogatory remarks.
