Thanks for your responses. But I don't understand, as the 'blues' version (if it's Take 2) has Elvis singing a few extra words in the first verse as follows:

Amazing grace
Oh, how sweet, SWEET the sound
That saved a wretch like me
I once was lost but now, NOW I'M found
Was blind, but now I see.

This would not be the master as supposedly heard on Disc 1, as the master first heard on the HE TOUCHED ME album's first verse is as follows:

Amazing grace
Oh, how sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me
I once was lost but now am found
Was blind, but now I see.

I'm pretty sure AMAZING GRACE on Disc 1 and Disc 3 (the second take, after he messes up the words on verse one as heard on the preceeding short false start) are the SAME!
On Disc 1 take 5 (undubbed) was used. You even pointed out the difference yourself with how he is singing "Oh, how sweet the sound" (which he does on that track) instead of "Oh, how sweet, sweet the sound" on take 2 (which can then be heard on disc 3). There really is no mystery here, and I don't get how you could think any different.

After a new entry at #22 in the previous mid week album chart, the release has now dropped out of this week’s U.K. midweek chart after one week. In the main weekly album chart from last Friday, it was a new entry 63.

Does anyone know what U.S. sales figures are for it's first week ???

I'm prepared right now to go into my local Barnes and Noble and finally purchase this set.

I really hope I don't t run into the same packaging issues that plagued last years set. Here's hoping...

As I wrote a few days ago, that info will not be available until late today or tomorrow and that is if it charts in the Billboard 200. Last years release did not do so. I can tell you that equivalent worldwide album sales from Spotify streaming is equal to 2,720 copies, which is up by just over 600 copies from this time last week, but slightly down on the first week’s sales of From Elvis in Nashville which was 3,245 copies. Current streams on that album after 12 months equates to 9,571 albums.

AMAZING GRACE - Having listened to the undubbed track on Disc 1, and then gone back to the master on the original HE TOUCHED ME album where Elvis is often covered up, I believe you can detect a slight second "sweet' and an extra, "oh" before "but now, now I'm found."

Amazing grace
Oh, how sweet, SWEET the sound
That saved a wretch like me
I once was lost OH but now, NOW I'M found
Was blind, but now I see.

He gets lost on Take 1 on the third line, and that's why he restarts it. So I'm good with AMAZING GRACE being the HE TOUCHED ME master on Disc 1 (Take 5) and Take 1 and 2 on Disc 3. My mistake, but worth the effort to understand where I went wrong. Thanks.

Emjel, that's quite a nose dive.

This is very bad news my friend.

If that's what's been registered on the U.K album chart then you can bet it would be even worse on other Elvis stronghold international charts.

There goes any chance of a 1966-1968 Nashville multi-disc

CD 1 is a strange presentation of the masters – but it isn’t even that. We have several false starts, a take that’s not the master, a remake and longer fades.

THE FIRST TIME EVER I SAW YOUR FACE has a false start, followed by the master take. It’s a heavy handed recording compared to the original, and sorely misses the critical third verse that Elvis would heartfully perform in person years later, notably at Birmingham, Alabama on December 29, 1976. It’s interesting to note that at the November 9, 1971 show in Baltimore, Elvis performs this song exactly as the single.

EDIT - AMAZING GRACE, the master from HE TOUCHED ME, is on Disc 1 where I can hear more words sung by Elvis like Take 2.

EARLY MORNIN’ RAIN is one line longer, while (THAT’S WHAT YOU GET) FOR LOVIN’ ME is a line and a half longer.

DON’T THINK TWICE, IT’S ALL RIGHT is supposedly the unedited master, as first heard officially on the double CD FTD release of ELVIS FOOL – however, BMG doesn’t really know what unedited means. NOTE: There was a CD bootleg release titled “Don’t Think Twice” on the Madison label featuring a January 1973 Las Vegas show with this song as a bonus track. It was promoted as a longer version (several minutes longer than BMG’s release). However, it was obvious on even the first listening that the track was looped, and the bootleggers either didn’t care, couldn’t tell, or purposefully promoted it as something it wasn’t.

The next track, IT’S STILL HERE, is noted as unedited which I assumed it was on the ‘70s box set, WALK A MILE IN MY SHOES, as it was labelled as such. But that unedited track WAS edited – either BMG didn’t know or lied to us.

We had the unedited version ‘again’ of IT’S STILL HERE on the extended FTD double-CD release of ELVIS FOOL, and I never checked. I always assumed that the three piano recordings were spontaneous, one-off efforts, which might have been a little more interesting (if they weren’t dull), but in fact, Elvis spent effort on these with multiple takes. That was surprising – and perhaps again misleading by BMG back in the day of their release.

FOOLS RUSH IN (WHERE ANGELS FEAR TO TREAD) features a longer fade, with an additional one and a half lines. MY WAY features another false start on this disc of masters??

The next three songs all feature longer fades -- IT’S ONLY LOVE (one extra, “… it’s only love …”), WE CAN MAKE THE MORNING (one extra line) and several more lines of LOVE ME, LOVE THE LIFE I LEAD. I really like the musical intro of this song, but this is one of my least favourite tracks on this disc. Awkward, strange, weird – I’m not sure how to describe this song. (The opening does make me think of a Tom Jones song, but I can’t place it.)
Sadly such lies aren't limited to just Elvis. Back in 2000, I bought Johnny Cash's "The Complete San Quentin Concert" on Cd. Not very complete considering a further four Cash performances from the concert were released on the Legacy edition - not to mention many other unreleased items from other performers from the same concert. Guess the label.

Accused of being "a nerd in his 20s." I wish.

The point of reference in my post was towards the packaging of the Cd's housed in those tiny ass pockets.

I should have just sent it back, but I kept the set, From Elvis in Nashville, scuffs and scratches within on the Discs.

I'm holding the sum bitch set rite now and here's praying that the discs will not feature last year's frustration.

Yes, I'm a squirrel.

Amazon sent me my copy in what amounted to little more than a paper bag and it was bent way past the point where I could have brushed it off and told myself it didn't matter (as I've done before now), so back it went. I then ordered it from a different supplier, hoping that they'd pack it better. They didn't, not really - they used a jiffy bag - and yet it arrived looking like it had only just left the conveyor belt at the factory. So I don't know which specific issues you're talking about but if it's the overall flimsiness of the box then it seems to be the luck of the draw.

It basically mirrors what happened with last years release. From Elvis in Nashville came into the mid week chart at #31 but when the main chart was published 4 days later, it was at #70 and then chartwise disappeared forever having sold 2009 copies which also included some double dipping by fans buying the vinyl in that first week. It was worse in the US as it never charted in the Billboard 200.

However, perhaps even with low sales, these releases are making a small profit for Sony, but it’s not going to necessarily be a quick profit but one over a longish time and if Sony are happy with that, then anything is possible.

But with regard to a Nashville 1966-68 release, what would Sony be able to offer that would interest the fans enough to buy it….they wouldn’t be able to offer undubbed masters, as apart from a few tracks that contained vocal overdubs and repairs, there were no overdubs done like they did for Nashville ‘70 and ‘71. So would there be a lot of fans who are simply happy with their FTD Classic album sets that contain this material and who would not want to buy such a new set. Just food for thought.

Has anyone else got a glitch at 0.56 on MOTR, on the line "long enough...", Disc 4? It may be an original tape click or something but does sound more like a digital glitch to me... perhaps just my copy.
Just played the song via Spotify but I couldnt hear any glitch there.
And usually I hear them quickly as they are annoying in many cases….and almost 20 years later I still cant forget the one in MITM on the Nashville Marathon cd. :x (on all copies of the release)
Worst glitch ever and in one of my all time favorite songs.

This new album set has not come into the Billboard 200 chart - just waiting on my contact to see if he has any actual sales numbers, but it is likely to be similar to that of the UK, that is under a couple of thousand.

...the Billboard 200 chart...this is absolutely no surprise to me...Elvis does not and I repeat does not sell in huge numbers anymore especially with these kind of sets. Maybe something will down the line on the back of the upcoming film next summer...or from some new idea but just because it`s not in the BB200 doesn't mean Sony are extremely disappointed...probably the exact opposite because they have a very good idea of potential sales for these kind of releases.

Last year’s didn’t either, so not a complete surprise. It’s probably somewhere in the Country chart but that is simply a sub chart to the main one and is effectively meaningless in the grand scheme of things as it is still based in the same number of sales, but just less competition. And I do not have access to it as Billboard are gradually closing off the charts to everyone who does not pay a ridiculous subscription.

Of course they have an idea of the potential sales and that’s the very reason the budgets are low for the production of these sets. And based on that, it is unlikely that they would be extremely disappointed, but then again, I’m sure they would have liked more sales outside of the fanbase especially as it is a mainstream release which would provide them with a return on their costs sooner rather than later and getting into the Billboard chart does help to create a certain amount of free awareness.

It's there plain as day on Spotify too !! But I doubt it's a "glitch" sounds like Elvis thumped something.
Then thats why I dont hear it because it isnt a glitch :D
Its not a digital glitch.
it sounds like a master tape bump.or he hit the microphone on something at that time.

I think so, too.
And I'm pretty sure it's also audible on the finished master.

The Back in Nashville set dropped out of the U.K. album chart having spent just one week there and topping out at #63. It basically mirrored last year’s release of From Elvis in Nashville. The 50 Greatest dropped from 86 down to 97.
