Well ok i did buy the FTD 'This is Elvis' but regretted it afterwoods
You should sell that one. It will common quite a premium to a collector.
Yep... This Is Elvis FTD is going for around $300 (with shipping) on ebay these days... it is probably the most sought after FTD CD right now...
But why? The tracks didn't even get cleaned up from what I've heard.

Rob bought every single copy, so it's super rare now.

I've always liked the gospel album but never been a fan of The Wonderful World of Christmas.
It feels half hearted, even depressing at times.Merry Christmas Baby being the exception.

"Walking in a Winter Wonderland" is the most depressing track on there...
The song should probably be cancelled in general due to these lyrics:

Later On
We'll Conspire

Almost all kidding aside, in addition to all joy, Christmas can also be a bit half hearted and melancholic to many people. In other words, The Wonderful World of Christmas got broad appeal!

Are you kidding? The sound is phenomenal!!!

No... your guess is as good as mine... next to the Monkey Business and 70's Hits FTD's, it has to be the least desirable in terms of content. I don't know why people do the things they do!!!

Well it looks like FTD isn't the only one who likes glue.

Disc 2, 3, 4 had glue on the outer edges of the CD's.

And...

these same discs were scratched/scuffed up.

Whoever they are now, Sony, BMG, RCA etc., - just doesn't care.

As I have two copies of this maybe, just maybe, I can make one
decent set.

Don't hear that.

Besides the fact we know Elvis owned copies of "Winter Wonderland" by Brenda Lee and the Andrews Sisters & Guy Lombardo, his 1971 recording may be the first to take a rock 'n' roll approach to it, right down to the blues finale. It's a lot of fun, and the energy helps on an album which also skillfully essays the downside of the holiday season. Presley even devoted ten takes before deciding on a master.

I have no idea what version you're listening to.

Meanwhile, according to Ernst's book, "finally, he said flat out that he hated Winter Wonderland, and proceeded to prove it with a lifeless rendition" (p.330).

So, Elvis "hated" the song according to the person who has heard the session. And yet you think you know better.

Accused of being "a nerd in his 20s." I wish.

It's posts like this that make me VERY nervous about buying a copy.

Your comments are becoming widespread , not just here but on the Steve Hoffman forum.
Someone at SONY needs to be held to account.

I would drop Ernst Jorgensen a line (he's a member here) and put it to him to investigate. It's outside his jurisdiction but he's been with SONY/B.M.G/ R.C.A a long time and over time has established a reputation including having some clout, in order to talk to whoever Ernst knows is accountable in order to bring in some changes or improvements.

As the glue goes, yes it's happened more than once.
The Elvis FTD 50th Anniversary TTWII set came with
globs of blue glue. And of course this new Nashville
set. Though it's not as bad as the FTD set. Still it's
ridiculous. And yes someone should be held to account.

It's too late to expect anyone to be held to account. Ernst has got away with any number of wide-ranging issues over the last fifteen years or so. And doesn't seem to give a toss. He must know about the issues with the glue from the last release and the one before, and the one before that. News must filter down, as I doubt he lives in a cave with no internet.

Steve is a longtime and well-respected audio engineer.

There's some members at FECC who are actually members there too. I joined two years ago.

Top-notch forum if you have good range of music interests and are into audio engineering. But threads/topics can move very quick as it's a large forum , so what appears on first page can, by the next hour, be on the 10th page. You learn to adapt, not that i'm a regular member.

I've just had a quick play back on YouTube to remind myself of the track and calling 'Winter Wonderland' a depressing song is ridiculously over the top. It may not have the lightness of touch that the tracks off 'Elvis Christmas album' have but it certainly isn't lifeless.

I guess the fundamental question for those who don't like Elvis's performance is, what should he have been doing with this track? And if he supposedly didn't like the song why was Elvis devoting 10 takes to it anyway? If I didn't like a track I'd either not do it at all or bash if off quick and move on to the next tune.
