Re: Rate The Tracks - Aloha From Hawaii , 49th anniversary edition
Really? So if you compare how would you rate Johnny B.Goode 2.10min version from Elvis In Person 1969? 16/10?
Sorry but the 1.40min (half a minute shorter) Aloha version was totally played down and a spat out cartoon performance of just 1.40min .
Why playing it if you are totally unmotivated and not interested to bring a great version?
Never understood that throw away performances ...

And why get on someone because their opinion isn't the same as yours? Who are you that makes you an authority?Buddy wrote: ↑Sat Jan 15, 2022 5:15 pmReally? So if you compare how would you rate Johnny B.Goode 2.10min version from Elvis In Person 1969? 16/10?

I happen to like it as well and enjoy it more than his 1969 recordings mainly because of the band's performance...

Sorry but the 1.40min (half a minute shorter) Aloha version was totally played down and a spat out cartoon performance of just 1.40min .
Why playing it if you are totally unmotivated and not interested to bring a great version?
Never understood that throw away performances ...
I happen to like it as well and enjoy it more than his 1969 recordings mainly because of the band's performance...

I think that within the realms of a live album and Elvis' vocals in 1973, I like "Johnny B. Goode". This was by no means a "throwaway". Baring in mind it was a late inclusion to this concert.
I never actually thought of it but comparing the two, i would pick 1973 live Johnny B Goode as well.

Re: Rate The Tracks - Aloha From Hawaii , 49th anniversary edition
Hello again,
I'm well aware that we have some fairly creative fans here at FECC.
can i ask a question?
Has anyone made up a compilation on the whatever you believe are best tracks from 12 and 14 January 1973 "Aloha"?
What sources did you use for this?
What was the end result like?
Did the sound quality remain consistent track-by track?
Did you edit any of Elvis' dialogues even a simple "thank you" in order to keep the concert moving?
Let us know your answer.
Cheers...

Re: Rate The Tracks - Aloha From Hawaii , 49th anniversary edition
Most songs will get 5 or below from me.
Simply because we have much better live versions of almost all songs.
See See Rider gets a 3/10 while On Stage version is at least 9/10.
Suspicious Minds is a 2/10……worst live version ever.
Yeah not a big fan of the Aloha shows

To me the Aloha shows are really very boring to listen to. Elvis seems and performes as if someone woke him up a few moments before the start.Walter Hale 4 wrote: ↑Sun Jan 16, 2022 8:54 amHello again,

He is almost standing still the whole show on one place, no moves, no acting with the audience except for a kiss and a few scarfes givings. No typical audience reactions. A overall boring show too full of sad ballads. This is not the Elvis I love to see on stage.
The absolute opposite compared to 69, TTWII, Boston 71 or MSG/August Vegas Season.
Especially to MSG June 72 were he was so outstanding, hard to believe that just a half year later he was so lame, stiff and tired on stage knowing the whole world will watching live or later broadcasted.
The stage was build brillant, the suit was impressive and he looked very slim but his eyes were looking tired and sad. His looking while singing the ballads of broken hearts seem to me as he would sing them directly for/to Priscilla. As he wanted to tell and show the world "she is gone, and now look at me how much I am suffering"
To me a show were most of his performances are below average.
I do not and never listen to Aloha from start to end. I know that many fans love Aloha because the satellite show was "something big" and a milestone, but if it won't happened and exact this show would have appeared just as a Vegas soundboard at least 50% less would have been so thrilled.
BUT
There are a very few breathless performances I listen to often on a self made CDs or on a playlist.
From the reahersal show:
Fever
From the main show:
What Now My Love
It's Over
I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry
American Trilogy
Welcome To My World
I'll Remember You
All the others were performed in a much better way on other locations...IMO

Yes, as much as I enjoy large parts of Aloha, there's a strain in his voice that's largely absent in the charming and restrained after-hours performances.FredAistair wrote: ↑Sun Jan 16, 2022 6:36 pmI am with you on most of these and in particular the post show sessions where to me he may have been tired but he was in great voice , so natural and effortless, beautiful singinglondonflash wrote: ↑Sat Jan 15, 2022 8:53 pm"Also Sprach Zarathustra" : 9/10

3. "No More" : 8/10
4. "Hawaiian Wedding Song" : 8/10
5. "Early Morning Rain" : 8/10
The post-show tracks are some of the prettiest things Elvis recorded in the 1970s. Those understated performances are just so different to the rest of the recordings here.
As for rating the songs from the main show, it's rather difficult, because the oldies were only ever really intended to be run-throughs - and from that point of view, they are fine. I certainly find them less troublesome than Something, for example. One of the new songs on the album, and yet Elvis mumbles his way through. The same is largely true for Welcome to My World. If he wasn't going to commit to the new material, he'd have been better to find something else. That said, I'm not sure why Suspicious Minds has such a bad rep. It's just fine, even if not comparable to 1969 and 1970 versions.

Accused of being "a nerd in his 20s." I wish.
