There have been other signs for years, sadly, that there is little to differentiate the retail side and the FTD side, other than soundboards. If we look back at the boxes that have preceded this one, they are put together more like FTD titles than retail ones. All of that endless chatter even on the masters on the Nashville boxes. That stuff should be on FTD, not retail. The same is true of the EOT box, and how badly the mock session/rehearsal discs are programmed. Fifteen or twenty minutes of For the Good Times is FTD category, not retail release. And one could even say the same for the dumping of the 1969 and 1970 live shows into retail boxed sets, when a 2 disc best of would have been much more sensible, with the full sets on FTD. And there was the legacy edition of TTWII, containing that concert with the botched opening, and no indication of why it was there. That opening should have been edited for a retail release, and left as it was for an FTD issue.emjel wrote: ↑Fri Jun 09, 2023 1:37 amYes I forgot - FTD put out a 5 CD set from On Tour early last year and then Sony decided to do a mainstream release early this year with an extra CD for a show that was missed and a Blu-Ray disc of the movie as an additional sweetener. The point being made is not so much about another release with some kind of revamped sound, but the short time factor between the releases. I think some fans who are complaining would be a little more forgiving had FTD put out the Aloha set several years ago in the Classic Album series to plug the shelf gap and then Sony put out a better deluxe version 5 or 6 years later on mainstream.sweetangeline wrote: ↑Fri Jun 09, 2023 12:39 am...be careful with posts like this you could be hurting you`re reputation...try harder to think more clearly before postingemjel wrote: ↑Thu Jun 08, 2023 11:31 pmThat is hardly the point who this new is aimed at. What about the fans who bought and paid good money for the FTD release just 15 months ago believing that the FTD set was likely to be the ultimate release. Those fans have effectively been duped - I mean I wonder how many would have bought that set had they known a better mainstream set would come out 18 months later.
I cannot believe that Sony had no idea about doing a 50th anniversary release over a year ago and even if the dumb morons at Sony did not work it out, Ernst should have been waving a big red flag about the importance of a 50th anniversary release on mainstream - which would have been for both Elvis collectors and the public, just like they did with On Tour.
If this release was a carbon copy of the FTD release, there would not be a problem, but it isn’t. They have added a Blu-Ray for the two shows and rehearsals as an enticement for collector fans to double dip. And the situation will be even more of a rip off if the rehearsal show contains a new mix done in the same way as the main show was for the FTD release.
You see, I was under the impression that FTD was set up for serious collectors to get the slightly rarer stuff on a collectors label, but with this mainstream release, and unless it completely mirrors the FTD Aloha release so that collectors don’t need it, it looks like the reverse is happening.
We’ve just had what appears to be the best MSG set from FTD, but maybe this time next year, Sony will put out another version for mainstream but with the main show using the Jap Quad mix minus a couple of songs like the LP.

Yes, I wonder who that was…sweetangeline wrote: ↑Thu Jun 08, 2023 7:10 pmI remember somebody stating many months ago that a CD box set would still be released including a BluRay to the mainstream market even though FTD released the 8 inch package first...I wonder who that was?? I don't pre-order Elvis releases anymore like I do with other artists. I want to make sure this thing don't contain any mistakes before buying. It does look interesting so I keep my fingers crossed.

Re: Aloha From Hawaii (Deluxe Edition) coming to streaming services August 11th
I knew it, I knew it!
Here is what I predicted on February 1st in the thread titled: 2023 ---> What should we expect from Sony Legacy / RCA
Then, the next day February 2 from the same thread:
And then on February 7th, in the Why no ALOHA 50th Anniversary release ? thread I said this:
THIS has been Sony's way for the last 30 years. They have to squeeze every last penny out of Elvis they can. And we keep buying it!
As I said in those previous posts - I didn't buy the FTD - but I will buy this new Sony edition.

Here is what I predicted on February 1st in the thread titled: 2023 ---> What should we expect from Sony Legacy / RCA
It's still not too late for a full and complete 50th anniversary release of Aloha- remember, it didn't broadcast in the United States until April 1973.
I don't think Sony will miss an opportunity to sell the material one more time on the main label to the main public, especially with a 50th anniversary promo on it!
Then, the next day February 2 from the same thread:
I don't think it will be released in April, but more closer to to August and the anniversary date of his death, as they often release stuff then. Or, it might be released in November for Christmas sales season. Releasing material months after the actual anniversary has become common with Sony, i.e., the 2020 release of the "From Elvis In Nashville" box set, 5 months after the actual sessions. Same for the follow-up in 2021 of "Back In Nashville." So maybe November is the time for "Aloha."
I think a Sony release with an upgraded sound on the "Alternate" rehearsal show will come. Whether that product comes in physical (CD) or digital stream or both, not sure, but it will come. There's no way Sony lets this anniversary go by without trying to milk it one more time. As mentioned by someone else, it might even have a newly edited DVD with it.
As a side note - I did NOT buy the FTD release last year for just this reason. I'm guessing there's others like me who did the same.
And then on February 7th, in the Why no ALOHA 50th Anniversary release ? thread I said this:
As has been discussed in the "2023 ---> What should we expect from Sony Legacy / RCA" thread, I think we will see something from Sony pertaining to the 50th anniversary of Aloha.
It will be sometime this year, maybe later, say August- November, and will be everything pertaining to Aloha and maybe even a little something additional then what was released via the FTD last year (i.e, a newly mixed/edited DVD). Plus the Alternate show will be be remixed.
Whether it be only a digital stream only (without a DVD) or physical CD/DVD release, don't know - but there will be something. There is no way Sony let's this milestone anniversary go by without trying market/milk it to the general public one more time - especially if it can be done on the cheap via digital stream.
By the way - I didn't purchase the FTD version, especially after hearing some of the negative reviews and also nothing done to the rehearsal show, figuring we'd get a Sony release at some point.
THIS has been Sony's way for the last 30 years. They have to squeeze every last penny out of Elvis they can. And we keep buying it!
As I said in those previous posts - I didn't buy the FTD - but I will buy this new Sony edition.

Re: Aloha From Hawaii (Deluxe Edition) coming to streaming services August 11th
At the new higher price point, I wrestled with whether to buy Aloha, and decided against it, but I will buy this release. The flipside is that I plunged for Prince From Another Planet, and won't buy the more recent edition. You have to decide when enough is enough.
I'm still torn with how I feel about the sound quality on the EOT box too, but that's another story...

Re: Aloha From Hawaii (Deluxe Edition) coming to streaming services August 11th
I purchased the FTD as I thought it was the complete package for the collector. Now it appears that a Blu-ray is included and at half the price of the FTD.!!
I feel everyone who bought the FTD has been ripped off and I'm so disappointed.

Re: Aloha From Hawaii (Deluxe Edition) coming to streaming services August 11th
We're in the same boat, but I didn't wrestle with the previous release. I just had zero interest. This one has my interest. I love Aloha and am looking forward to seeing it on Blu-ray.
There is no comparison here. The only thing "Prince" is good for now is the DVD (which I love). There's never been a release of the Garden shows like the latest. The sound is unbelievable. You might as well be sitting right in the Garden.
The rest of you bastards suck it up and buy this new Aloha release. Ernst and company will appreciate your business.

Re: Aloha From Hawaii (Deluxe Edition) coming to streaming services August 11th
Very true - this one just stands out more due to the short time gap between the releases. It will be interesting to see the proper marketing blurb on this, but it seems that as usual, Sony treats these things like some sort of covert operation. Maybe I should have a word with a friend who works at GCHQ lol.pmp wrote: ↑Fri Jun 09, 2023 2:47 amThere have been other signs for years, sadly, that there is little to differentiate the retail side and the FTD side, other than soundboards. Well, FTD is one thing. Sony official releases another. That's how FTD treats the market. So. I bought Aloha FTD, and loved it. I was sure it was coming something offical too, so if this is good - I'll sell my FTD and buy this one instead

I bought the 25th Anniversary, I bought the alternate, I bought the complete DVD, I bought the Legacy (for a better alternate), I bought the FTD (for the post show session) and now I don't know what to do.
Re: Aloha From Hawaii (Deluxe Edition) coming to streaming services August 11th
Should be really good audio on the blu_ray, plus be great to see the helicopter arrival if included. Or the press conferences...
Sure there will be slight visual improvement. To see the AMERICA EAGLE suit in all its glory.
Plus the iconic cape spread at the end of the rehearsal concert in HD - - yeah baby!
This new ALOHA release is a must.
Plus rehearsal show upgraded to same as main show sound which is what I've always wanted...
I've seen ALOHA probably over 100 times - - - - up to 200 if the Blu-ray version is pleasing... LOL

Re: Aloha From Hawaii (Deluxe Edition) coming to streaming services August 11th
It feels a bit like a slap in the face for FTD supporters like me, as pointed out by @pmp. To me, a release like this was very hard to imagine after last year's FTD. Granted, the FTD has the rehearsal concert mixed and mastered by Anesini and this other guy (which I really like) but that doesn't change the fact that the FTD is gonna be seen as redundant in just a couple of months. Weird. Really weird. And the title was reprinted, despite a (presumably) larger than usual initial print-run.
If the rehearsal concert was indeed mixed by Matt Ross-Spang I'm afraid I'm gonna take the plunge yet again. The main show as mixed by him was just as much of an eye-opener as the most recent MSG-outing on FTD, maybe even more so. There's no way I'd miss out on a mix like that.

Wait for the release. If it's not faulty - sell the others and buy this new release.
I was so sure this would be coming I have already sold my FTD-version, I just remembered.

Definitely the Matt Ross-Spang mix.

Will the rehearsal show be remixed by Matt Ross-Spang or will it not? Time will tell.
However, the real question is, will Ronnie Tutt get a mention in the booklet?

Looks like no remix of the Rehearsal show... at least there's no mention of it unlike the main show. Looks like August 11th is the expected release date...
I would bet my entire collection that the blu ray is a straight transfer of the 2004 DVD set... bummer
