But that’s the big question - what do we have coming if it is just the FTD release that will now be available on mainstream. And the shows on a Blu-Ray disc are hardly likely to look any better than the previous versions we got 8 years ago, so I have nothing to look forward to as I am not spending £45 just for the Blu-Ray.Mona Lisa wrote: ↑Sat Jun 10, 2023 12:31 amEach to their own but let's enjoy what we've got coming... You see, I’d prefer to live in a world of reality than live in some kind of la la land like you appear to do. I don’t know why you have to cling on to some of this elevated stuff that gets put out, unless of course you need to believe it to make you feel better when you find the need to boast and elevate Elvis’ achievements to others.
I mean who makes up this stuff when writing these things - "Recorded live on January 12 and 14, 1973 at the Honolulu International Center Arena (capacity approximately 6000) and beamed into an estimated billion-plus television sets around the world, Aloha from Hawaii via Satellite made a new kind of broadcast history as Elvis and emerging global satellite technology instantaneously connected a major artist with his audience".
According to this blurb, two shows were recorded live and beamed into an estimated billion-plus televisions around the world. So how were they or should that be, how was it beamed live to one billion TVs around the world when it was only shown in the Pacific region of the world at the time of the show , with much of that population in the region not even owning TVs.
What kind of broadcasting history was made, when this kind of thing was done 6 years earlier and not with just one satellite like Aloha, but four satellites to get to a proper global audience.
As for the bit about coming on here to chip away at the shine of Elvis, do you seriously believe that my few comments on here would have such an affect. And are you really that worried? But then I guess you are otherwise you wouldn’t be telling someone to ignore me.

Probably on lesser known artists, but Elvis doesn’t need this phoney kind of stuff. Even if the Aloha show had not happened, he would still be regarded as an iconic entertainer.sweetangeline wrote: ↑Sat Jun 10, 2023 12:36 am...as you know all record company`s are guilty of that...and that`s a fact

Re: Aloha From Hawaii (Deluxe Edition) coming to streaming services August 11th
I was thinking about this today. I would only be tempted to buy this set if the blu ray featured the MRS mix of the main show, but I really don't expect this to happen, as hindsight tells us that they always take the easy option.elvis-fan wrote: ↑Fri Jun 09, 2023 5:15 pmLooks like no remix of the Rehearsal show... at least there's no mention of it unlike the main show. Looks like August 11th is the expected release date...
I would bet my entire collection that the blu ray is a straight transfer of the 2004 DVD set... bummer

I'll be sticking with what I have already, save for the unlikely event that the reviews suggest a significant upgrade.

Unbelievable! Seems to be a complete rip-off. Especially the video needs a complete restoration and Dolby atmos audio.

Re: Aloha From Hawaii (Deluxe Edition) coming to streaming services August 11th
Can somebody just explain to me why this is apparently the best mix of this concert?
I just feel it has no bottom end, but maybe that’s just me.
I still prefer the Ferrante mix from ‘98. And, of course, the audio from the 2004 DVD box is the ultimate source for me.

You guys do know that you don't HAVE TO buy everything that is released — right?
I certainly don't. I haven't been interested in any more Aloha releases since . . . . .
(And yes, I know that there are audio issues, for example Westmoreland's "beautiful high voice" singing is suppressed, etc., . . but, I just live with it — it is what it is. I am not going to keep buying endless re-releases.)

Re: Aloha From Hawaii (Deluxe Edition) coming to streaming services August 11th
On one hand this is exciting news...., as I am a fan of Aloha. The blue ray I'm really not so impressed with that news. The sound of the shows on CD is what I'm looking at.
It was mentioned earlier and I didn't see any response, is there any chance that either of the press conferences will be included with this release?
Chances are I will purchase this..... again

So without reading thru all this the remastering/remix is the same as the ftd but the rehearsal show has been remixed/remasterd. Correct?

My guess is at some point the blu rays will be available by themselves and the cds are exactly like the ftd. In which case… no harm no foul.

Through a dedicated high end 5.1 system, the 2004 DV release looks and sounds amazing and certainly better sounding than the stereo CD releases. The surround really does give the illusion of being at a live concert.Yamaguchi.Y wrote: ↑Sat Jun 10, 2023 3:48 amYou guys do know that you don't HAVE TO buy everything that is released — right?

Of course it doesn’t bother you because the marketing blurb elevates Elvis and what he supposedly achieved. But what does bother you is when people attempt to paint the correct picture about things. And don’t say it doesn’t otherwise you would not have responded to my comment. And you certainly would not have found the need to bring that group into your reply either.Kylan wrote: ↑Sat Jun 10, 2023 2:48 amAhh but you see it doesn’t really bother me one way or the other but it clearly bothers you, hence my point!emjel wrote: ↑Sat Jun 10, 2023 2:27 amI bet that marketing blurb really excited you and gave you goosebumps all over.Kylan wrote: ↑Sat Jun 10, 2023 12:36 amDon’t bother with him. Re: Aloha From Hawaii (Deluxe Edition) coming to streaming services August 11th
It is basically irrelevant what his guesstimate is - the point being made is that you as a fan should want data to be more factually correct than it is. After all, you’d be the first in line complaining if it was written that an Elvis album only had half the sales it actually had, or that Billboard only acknowledged Elvis’ top chart hits from 1958. Like others, I bet you’d start preaching and screaming it was an injustice.Kylan wrote: ↑Sat Jun 10, 2023 3:40 amSo what is your guess of how many people actually watched aloha? A million? Half a million? 100,000? Would that make you sleep better at night?pmp wrote: ↑Sat Jun 10, 2023 3:27 amSo accuracy about Elvis's career doesn't bother you? Surely as a fan it should be something you care about.Kylan wrote: ↑Sat Jun 10, 2023 2:48 amAhh but you see it doesn’t really bother me one way or the other but it clearly bothers you, hence my point!emjel wrote: ↑Sat Jun 10, 2023 2:27 amI bet that marketing blurb really excited you and gave you goosebumps all over.Kylan wrote: ↑Sat Jun 10, 2023 12:36 amDon’t bother with him. He comes on here 98% of the time to either talk about economics and what people buy or don’t buy and to chip away the shine of Elvis. Mostly the latter. And if you say anything negative about the almighty Beatles he shows a bit of passion finally. LolMona Lisa wrote: ↑Sat Jun 10, 2023 12:03 amWhy have you gotta laugh? Roustabout released toward end of October ‘64 took just over 10 weeks.
And it really is quite childish to throw out those ridiculously low viewing numbers of 1 million or half a million in an attempt to prove a point. Even if you just talk about the likely number of viewers who watched it live in the Pacific region and Asia, it’s going to be around 180 million.

So that would make you two deliriously happy if they quit throwing out the billion number when promoting aloha and say 180 million instead. Btw 400 million people watched the Beatles do All You Need is Love via satellite. Sigh Elvis loses to them “damn Beatles” again. “Wink wink”

Re: Aloha From Hawaii (Deluxe Edition) coming to streaming services August 11th
The blurb suggests that it is only the original album that has been remixed etc just like it was on the FTD release. So the only thing different is the inclusion of the Blu-Ray disc and it looks like the slip case cover is different where they have used the original album artwork on the front, whereas the FTD one uses a totally different photo. The three panel sleeve is different too with 4 panels and maybe the artwork in the booklet has been moved around, but it is still 28 pages.steve in sc3 wrote: ↑Sat Jun 10, 2023 9:08 amSo what is incorrect?elvis-fan wrote: ↑Sat Jun 10, 2023 7:49 amNot correct...steve in sc3 wrote: ↑Sat Jun 10, 2023 7:46 amSo without reading thru all this the remastering/remix is the same as the ftd but the rehearsal show has been remixed/remasterd. Correct?

It wouldn’t make me ‘deliriously’ happy - I cannot of course speak for PMP but I’m sure he will share my sentiments and that he’ll let you know.Kylan wrote: ↑Sat Jun 10, 2023 9:47 amSo that would make you two deliriously happy if they quit throwing out the billion number when promoting aloha and say 180 million instead. But the 180 million would be closer to reality than the 1 or 1.5 billion that is thrown out all the time. And there wouldn’t be anything wrong with writing that the show was later watched by several hundred millions of people when it was broadcast or shown in countries around the world later in the month or in the case if the US, three months later and in the U.K., 5 years later. As I wrote elsewhere, Elvis does not need these crazy embellishments to help boost his achievements and stating the correct info for this show is not going to destroy that either.
As for the Our World programme, it is what it is and I don’t see it as Elvis losing out to The Beatles as you put it as it’s not like it was a broadcasting competition that happened at the same time. I didn’t go on a downer or feel that The Beatles or Elvis lost to Queen because over 1.5 billion people watched them perform on Live Aid.
