Legacy v/s FTD - Sound difference ?
I arrived late to the FTD party. I am trying to pick what titles I can find and I am mainly interested in the classic album release on cd as I like the bigger covers and the packaging is cool. With that being said done are really hard to find such as From Elvis in Memphis but I see them on a couple of sites but they are expensive. I have the Legacy 2 cd set that came out a few years ago. My question is do the FTDS sound astonishingly better than the Legacy cd’s or are they pretty close in sound. I still want the FTd version but thought is the sound quality that much better Han the legacy release.

Re: Legacy v/s FTD - Sound difference ?
IMO Legacy sounds excellent. I dont think you will get any better sound quality from FTD. I have both and I prefere Legacy Editon but IMO they are very close in sound.

Elvis voice is more clear on Legacy ....and more balanced sound on the band too
IMHO the FTD release was a total waste...

Re: Legacy v/s FTD - Sound difference ?
The Legacy version has the same mix used for the LP. It is the same mix.
The new FTD version is much better, but it all depends on the sound equipment you will use to listen to them and also on the condition of your ears. You notice the clarity of the instruments when you compare the recordings with headphones. The FTD has clearer instruments. I prefer the new mix. Important detail: the takes of the songs after the show have very good sound quality. IMO.

Re: Legacy v/s FTD - Sound difference ?
I'm not exactly sure which releases you're looking for/talking about... but with regard to From Elvis In Memphis, the Legacy Edition and the FTD releases are two different birds entirely in terms of their content. The masters on the Legacy are remastered by Vic and the FTD is remastered by Sebastian... both versions sound excellent IMO and near impossible to tell the difference. That's really the only thing you can compare because the content of both is different. IMO the three original FTD releases are the best available in terms of content... they have all the finished masters, all the undubbed masters and (I think) all the outtakes... but I'm not 100% on the outtakes off the top of my head...Rocker77 wrote: ↑Mon Jun 12, 2023 9:41 pmI arrived late to the FTD party. With regard to buying FTD CD's I've been noticing a lot of people selling their collections of the FTD CD's... and many for pretty reasonable prices but some are pricier than others. You should be able to get the three Memphis CD sets for decent prices though...

Depending what you're into, I'd also recommend tracking down the Elvis Is Back FTD.Rocker77 wrote:I no wish I could find these -elvis-fan wrote: ↑Tue Jun 13, 2023 6:54 amWith regard to buying FTD CD's I've been noticing a lot of people selling their collections of the FTD CD's... and many for pretty reasonable prices but some are pricier than others. I don't think there is a whole lot of difference between the two in general, both excellent.

Re: Legacy v/s FTD - Sound difference ?
Where does it say that the Sony Legacy version of the main show has been remixed over the FTD version? I have the FTD version of Aloha, but do not intend to buy it again on the Sony Legacy label.
I suspect it’s the same remix, excellent by the way because as far as comments goes, there doesn’t seem to be a clear difference. If it did a lot of fans would have said it loud and clear, no doubt.

Re: Legacy v/s FTD - Sound difference ?
Why? People are discussing if there is a real difference between FTD and Sony's sound quality. I thought the case of the recent Aloha was a good example. Is there really a big difference between the FTD version last year and the Sony one this year?elvis-fan wrote: ↑Tue Jun 13, 2023 9:54 pmI think you're on the wrong thread...Tornado wrote: ↑Tue Jun 13, 2023 8:45 pmWhere does it say that the Sony Legacy version of the main show has been remixed over the FTD version? At each new release, or should I say re-release there's always the pitch of "Newly remixed and remastered ". Real improvements came over the years for sure but now it's a bit overused. IMHO

My honest opinion, all the sound on all the Legacy Editions sound spectacular.
And what a great economical way to start collecting or purchasing key albums in Elvis’ catalogue.

Yes, there's a difference... a big difference in the prices for the same audio quality, and the much less-expensive set will include a blu-ray disc.

Indeed but I thought it a shame that the early Legacy releases were twofers.minkahed wrote:My honest opinion, all the sound on all the Legacy Editions sound spectacular.

Re: Legacy v/s FTD - Sound difference ?
FTD leads! The Legacy releases are fine, if that's what you need! But, FTD, not least the complete sessisons series are really something else! Make your pick, and enjoy what your own needs can please you with! There are comparisons on the Garden and Aloha sets! But, the latest FTD's are actually up there, imo!

Re: Legacy v/s FTD - Sound difference ?
Absolutely! The 2005 release of the FTD was not able to take advantage of the 2007 remasters by Vic Anesini that were used on the Legacy Edition.
