I was referring to Matt Ross's new mix being synched to the video footage. I'm sure that would be a desirable option for some people, and there's no reason why it couldn't be an included in addition to the 5.1.
I hope that's the case as well... but I fear they're simply duplicating the 2004 set ... similar to what they did for TTWII and EOT. Although using the new audio for a complete concert is much more straight forward in terms of a transfer. One can only hope... as the audio is truly sub-par for both shows on the DVD's

Just looking at the FTD Aloha booklet, which is 4 pages less than the forthcoming Sony release, I hadn’t noticed it before, but surprised to see that Disc 3 After Show recordings were also remixed by Matt Ross-Spang, so certainly strange that they did not put out the rehearsal show remixed by him too on the FTD release.

Anyhow, because of an Amazon clanger a couple of weeks ago, they dropped a £10 credit onto my account so decided to use that toward this Sony release - so I’m getting it at a £16 bargain cost.

It's cynical marketing. If you bought the FTD, you can now get the remixed rehearsal show and the blu ray for less than half the price of the FTD - and that will be enough to tempt most collectors. They knew exactly what they were doing.

The biggest disappointment for me is that they haven't bothered to dub the new mixes on to the video footage. Even though I bought the FTD, that would have made this release a must have. But now I'll probably just pick it up later when the price comes down - unless I hear glowing reports about improved picture quality, but that doesn't seem likely given that all the footage has been squeezed on to one disc..
Why would you not want 5.1 sound on the blu-Ray. No they are not squeezing the video. Very cynical and nonsensical comments.
I never mentioned 5.1 sound. I was referring to Matt Ross's new mix being synched to the video footage. I'm sure that would be a desirable option for some people, and there's no reason why it couldn't be an included in addition to the 5.1.

In respect of the footage, we are getting two complete shows plus the after show songs on a single disc, which I why I don't expect much improvement over the DVD's That's not being cynical, it's common sense....
But Blu-ray can hold much more information. Both shows easily fit....

Sent from my ANE-LX1 using Tapatalk
I'm aware of that, but any attempt to upscale the picture quality - which is what they should be doing here - is going to have a significant impact on the file size.

That's why I suspect that we'll get a straight transfer from the previous multi disc set, and the only purpose the blu ray format is serving is to enable them to fit everything on to one disc.

Personally, I highly disagree. The mix featured on the DVD set from 2004 is perfect the way it is and still holds up extremely well.

I've never said that they should replace it. Most blu rays offer multiple audio tracks, and it would be nice to have the option of watching the footage synched to Matt Ross' new mix...

I'm hoping they replace the lossy Dolby Digital stereo and 5.1 tracks with lossless Dolby True HD tracks.

I don't think there was ever an official release of the Japanese telecast. VHS copies were circulating back in the day, but the picture quality wasn't great.

As EPE own all the footage, I was hoping that there might have been a decent copy of the this alternate edit in the EPE archives, but as the forthcoming release offers nothing new in terms of video content, this doesn't seem likely...

I actually pre-ordered it for less than 25 EUR delivered at my door. I'm still hoping for a multi-angled version of the footage like the 40th anniversary version. That would be a good reason to release a Blu Ray. Probably not going to happen though.

You know, that version of "Dixie" and uh, the "Battle Hymn of the Republic," it's so beautiful!
The band he's put together is so over-the-top, and only Elvis would have that kinda spending power, and just audacious craziness. Choirs, and orchestras, and a great rhythm section, maybe another gospel group on the side. None of it makes sense until you suddenly hear something like that, and they're all playing a role in that, and it's very moving music. That's the pure joy of music in the man. You know, that's when I see everything stop.

Hi Robert,

I ordered mine on fnac.be.
https://www.nl.fnac.be/a18259103/Elvis-Presley-ALOHA-FROM-HAWAII-VIA-SATELLITE-Cd-album

I got 5% off because I have a membership card.

On the fnac.com the price is 27.99 EUR + 2.99 shipping.

Fnac is a french retail chain with lot's of shops in Belgium. I don't know their international shipping policies.

I'm sure glad I was suspicious about that FTD release ...

I think it sounds newly mixed - not sure.

UK as well, Apple TV, £8.99, HD, Dolby 5.1.
Preview did not look very different to the DVD, but I did notice enhancements on some details.
Of course the preview may not be what we finally get, it might be better.

I found the quality awful, like it was filmed off from a TV! Thinking of the super quality we have on "This is Elvis" long version.... I hope this wasn't taken from the Bluray master.

I hope this is not representative of the finished product. I would like it on my apple TV account, for £8.99, probably worth a try.

I think this is mostly an audio project - the video BR disc is more like an add-on, just pouring the master there have into blue ray. so the quality enhancements will be minor or not noticeable.

Absolutely stunning mix, MRS is a godsend for us Elvis fans. I hope Sony allows him to remix the 74 and 77 multi-track shows as well.
