News just breaking that Michael Parkinson has died.

He was one of Elvis' biggest fans.

This guy?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Parkinson

Never heard of him, or his broadcast career across the pond.

And the Wiki page makes no mention of his fondness for Elvis, so perhaps his affection was less intense than you suggest.

I'd suggest Spellbinder was taking the proverbial.

Parkinson was not an Elvis fan, he made some derogatory comments about Elvis over the years, but I also heard him praise Elvis on the radio one time, which surprised me.

There's no reason why you would have heard of him in the States, but he was huge in England. His interviews with Muhammad Ali, John Lennon and Yoko Ono, Orson Welles, Billy Connolly and a couple of thousand other people were legendary.

I had the honour of operating on Camera 5 for all of the ITV Parkinson shows including his last one ever. We covered the conversations, and musical numbers every Thursday at LWT, for transmission on Saturday nights. Amongst the guests i remember were Stevie Wonder, Madonna, Liza Minnelli, Lionel Richie, Tom Cruise, Tony Bennett, Sir Michael Caine, Sir Paul McCartney, ..and George Michael standing next to me with his sunglasses on waiting to do a rehearsal....good times for sure.

A real highlight of my TV career.

Given his celebrity which is considerable, can anyone explain to me why he doesnt garner enough interest, today, to be included in the list of UK presenters, or under any list amongst Pantheon's 200 professions.

Here are two.

Don't know.

Don't care.

Perhaps because those who produce such arbitrary lists (or those that rely on and quote them) don't know their arse from their elbow.

Posters, they know who they are, should avoid to show how envious., jealous, and impotent they are in their failed effort to minimize the greatness of the work produced by the guy, a physicist who inter alia, was the co-creator of the Pantheon program at MIT. Instead of selling books about rock music and shamelessly advertise it in our forum, or insulting the intelligence of a few posters here, Cesar A. Hidalgo is changing the world. Incidentally, posters should inform our forum when they, themmselves, LOL, or anyone who is a member of their immediate family is included in any one of those those lists. It will be nice to know. LOL.

Pantheon is still a pile of rubbish, with absolutely no relevance to anyone. Except you, it seems. I have never once seen anyone of any worth reference it or use it as a reliable source of information, or pretend that its weird and wonderful lists have some legitimacy. You don't count.

For your obsession with useless, inaccurate numbers, figures, and name-dropping, though, it probably suits you just fine.

Off Topic, as Parky was no Elvis fan. If there was a Coincidence Topic his passing would qualify as he just happened to pass away on Aug 16th.
I didn't want to mention that, but now that it's out of the bag, let's add that he was born in 1935. Oooooooh, spooky. Well, maybe not.

Envy of Hidalgo, the co-creator of Pantheon. Posters in this forum can NOT envy other posters in the forum but only as long as they do NOT know who the other posters are. LOL.

But Hidalgo is a public figure so anyone on this forum who desmisses his work, or him, is because of envy..

Of course, i can boast of having 26 of my inmediate family members in the most important biographical index of individual leaders in charge of countries or group of countries who not just rule, or command but algo govern them. No rock and roll writers there, I have checked,.

In fact I may the be only member of this forum who can be referenced there. Me, personally, in addition to 25 of my family members. Lookus up in the index under the letters A, B, C, G, L, M, P, and S. This is better than Pantheon!!

What the bloody hell are you blabbering on about? Get this: no-one here cares about who your family are, who you have met, who your ancestors were, or Hidalgo...whoever he is.

NO-ONE.

And if you think rock n roll is something to be looked down upon, what in hell are you doing on this forum???

Here are two.

https://pantheon.world/explore/rankings?show=people&years=-3501,2023&place=gbr&occupation=PRESENTER

https://pantheon.world/explore/rankings?show=people&years=-3501,2023&place=gbr&occupation=JOURNALIST
Perhaps the same reason that these five head up the list of top UK "celebrities":
https://pantheon.world/explore/rankings?show=people&years=-3501,2023&place=gbr&occupation=CELEBRITY

Millvina Dean - British civil servant who was a Titanic survivor and will be unknown to the majority of people in the UK.

Joseph Merrick - Er, "the Elephant Man". Died in 1890.

Mary Anning - A palaeontologist who died in 1847 and who will again be unknown to the majority of people in the UK.

Mary Mallon - This one is no less baffling a choice than those above. Known as 'Typhoid Mary', she was the source of a number of US outbreaks of typhoid fever after emigrating from Ireland to the US in the 1880s.

Albert Pierrepoint - An English executioner who retired in 1956 and died in 1992.

So, instead of concentrating on the major television personalities or performers that people would usually associate with the term "celebrity". Pantheon instead goes with long-deceased historical figures, many of whom are far from household names. I'm sure that the people behind Pantheon are smart and are doing interesting work, but I certainly wouldn't rely on the site to establish someone's true popularity/impact.

THESE ARE GLOBAL RANKINGS. THAT IS WHY STALLONE,MERCURY AND MARLEY HAVE, ASD I WRTOTETHIS COMMENT,A HIGHER HPI THAN ELVIS. FRIDA HAS A HIGHER HPI THAN ELVIS.,HIGHER THAN HER HUSBAND,WHO WAS MEXICO GREATEST PAINTER. PARKINSON WAS KNOWN STRICTLY IN THE ENGLISH SPEAKING WORLD, AND THAT IS WHY PANTHEON HAS TWO COLUMNS REFLECTING LANGUAGES,TO AVOID FAVOURING PUBLICATIONS ABOUT PEOPLE WRITTEN IN THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE.THEY GIVE CORRESPONDIGT WEIGHT,EQUALITY WEIGHT, TO NON ENGLISG WRITINGS. PEOPLE WHO ARE NOT CELEBRATED TODAY, BY THE BSATANFARDS OF THOSE WHO POST IN THIS FORUM,ARE INDEED RESEACRHED BY THOU}DSAMNDS UPON STHOUISANDS.WHEN ONE LOOKS AT PERI, I COUNTRY I KNOW EXTREMEÑY WELL,THE ´PRESENCE IN THE RANKING OF A CERTAIN LADY BY THE NAME OF LINA MEDINA,SHE RANKS 8TH AMOMGST PEOPLEVORN IN PERU SINCE 1,200. I CHALLEMNGE ANYONE HERE IN THIS FORUM TO KNOW WHO SHE IS.BUT APPARENTLY, THE FACT SHE REMAINS TO THIS DAY THE YOUNGEST PERSON TO HAVE BORE A CHILD WHO SURVIVED IS SUFFICIENT FOR HER CELBRITY TO BE SO WIDE,WORLDWIDE THAT SHE RANKS #8. HIGHER THAN ALL INCA KINGS BUT ONE, SHE WAS AGE 5 WHEN SHE GAVE BIRTH. BECAME PREGNANT AT FOUR, AND BY GOLLY SHE IS STILL ALIVE.

BEFORE PANTHEON 2.0,ELVIS WAS AHEAD OF THOSE THREE, MERCURY,STALLONE AND MARLEY,BUT PANTHEON 2.0 WAS DIFFERENT IN THAT IT GAVE AFRICAN COUNTRIES THE RIGHT WEIGHT. SO THAT IS WHY MARLEY,WHO IS HUGE IN AFRICA,AND EVEN ALAIN DELON HAVE A HIGHER HPI THAN ELVIS.

WITH THE RELEASE OF BAZ LUHRMANN'S ELVIS,i PREDICT ELVIS HPI IN 2023 WILL OVERTAKE THOSE OF THE FOUR HAVE MENTIONESD, AS THAT FILM WAS SEEN IN ALL FIVE CONTINENTS BUY SOME 18 MILLION PEOPLE.
