...and now you know why the tough questions during Elvis week will never be truly answered ...that said everything you state above is 100% accurate.emjel wrote: ↑Tue Aug 29, 2023 2:19 amOnly in their dreams. Live at the Hollywood Bowl peaked at #3 and was in the chart for 8 weeks.
In the US, Way Down in the Jungle Room peaked at #79 for one week and then dropped out. Live at the Hollywood Bowl peaked at #7 and was in the chart for 5 weeks. Tom Brown and co will say what they know the audience wants to hear. It was an bit like this year when Roger Semon asked the audience the name of the album that Aloha knocked off the top spot, the answer being Dark Side of the Moon, but it was said as if it was a massive achievement. However, it wasn’t really as they both came out virtually the same time (Moon was a month behind Aloha) and both were at #1 for 1 week. However the major difference is that Moon did not have the benefit of a 90 minute TV Special and Moon has been on the Billboard chart for nearly 1000 weeks and as recently as April this year.
And their memories of 1965 must be struggling as The Beatles in ‘65 were way ahead of what Elvis was doing - there was little competition in vying for the top spot between the two.
As an aside and I know these two re-issues came out at different times but maybe it would have been better to compare Elvis last recordings on the Jungle Room release (2016) with The Beatles last recordings on the Let It Be re-issue (2021). Global sales for Jungle Room after 7 years is now around 39k whereas Let It Be after nearly 2 years is up over 280k.
I read in an interview a few years back where someone from Sony was asked about Elvis’ re-issue/repackaged sales compared to what Apple were doing and the response was that Sony really wished they could get similar sales with Elvis product as Apple did with The Beatles.

Yes indeed - But the comparison is completely pointless anyhow - the first one is for one song performed toward the end of a global broadcast 6 years earlier, whilst the other is for a one hour show that did not have a live global broadcast.Paul Allen wrote: ↑Tue Aug 29, 2023 6:03 pmWhich viewing figures... the accurate figures for Aloha , or the highly exaggerated pretend figures?

Maybe it's been discussed here but i guess i missed it why the main show's recording is worse than the rehearsal show?

None of the Beatles had the worldwide gravitas to headline a solo satellite show.
Not even Ringo.

But The Beatles were a group and nobody has suggested that they were anything else but that, so another pointless kind of comparison. And as a group, they would certainly have had the capability to headline a special satellite show.elvisalisellers wrote: ↑Tue Aug 29, 2023 9:05 pmYou're right there.emjel wrote: ↑Tue Aug 29, 2023 6:23 pmYes indeed - But the comparison is completely pointless anyhow - the first one is for one song performed toward then end of a global broadcast, whilst the other is for a one hour show that did not have a global broadcast.Paul Allen wrote: ↑Tue Aug 29, 2023 6:03 pmWhich viewing figures... the accurate figures for Aloha , or the highly exaggerated pretend figures?

Late 70's going into the 80's they were considered kind of passé; certainly in the UK.

Re: Aloha From Hawaii (Deluxe Edition) coming to streaming services August 11th
Are you really that desperate to attempt to dismiss what the Beatles achieved in their 7.5 year career. The group didn’t exist after April 1970 so more pointless argumentative comments. Mike Windgren asked a reasonable question to which an answer was given, and just because it seems a few don’t like the answer, they attempt to make other pointless comments and comparisons which have little relevance to the question asked.elvisalisellers wrote: ↑Tue Aug 29, 2023 9:32 pmDepends on when it happened [appreciating, Presley was nearly 20 years deep into his career].emjel wrote: ↑Tue Aug 29, 2023 9:10 pmBut The Beatles were a group and nobody has suggested that they were anything else but that, so another pointless kind of comparison. John Jackson and Ernst Jorgensen of Sony/BMG appeared and spoke of Elvis music catalog and projects, including the new release on CD and vinyl, "Way Down In The Jungle Room". The news is that the album is moving right up the charts and is outselling the new album, "The Beatles Live At The Hollywood Bowl". It's almost as if it's 1965 again with Elvis and The Beatles on the charts, vying for the top position.

Well that [as often happens in your musings] fails to consider the wider picture on how both respective catalogues have been managed over the years.

Although I'm quite fond of the after-show songs and actually prefer them to the two shows proper, it does seem strange that they scheduled that session when they did. Why not tape them in advance and then let Elvis relax and enjoy himself after the stresses of the satellite broadcast?ForeverElvis wrote: ↑Sun Aug 27, 2023 8:12 pmI wonder why they didn’t film these insert performances on Jan 10 or 11? Nice summary of all things Aloha:
(I personally have stopped buying Aloha releases. Am satisfied with what I have got. The above confirms.)
Respect for the honest review and Thanks to RC! . (I agree with everything he says about the Aloha and FEIM releases too.)

The big difference…imo… regarding Elvis vs Beatles releases is that new Elvis releases have flooded the market for a really long time while Beatles have a new release every 3rd year or so…..maybe thats stretching it though but still not far from the truth?emjel wrote: ↑Tue Aug 29, 2023 11:14 am

I believe the general public are confused or dont care much anymore as new Elvis releases is out many times a year.
A new Beatles release is almost a big happening while a new Elvis release is just one of MANY.
That said its great to be a Elvis fan due to this and on the other side must be boring to be a Beatles fan as nothing happens for them.
And Elvis` fans are lucky to have the FTD label

Re: Aloha From Hawaii (Deluxe Edition) coming to streaming services August 11th
The latest equivalent global album sales via streaming numbers I have for the last few releases are as follows
From Elvis In Nashville = 19,715
Back In Nashville = 14,401
Elvis On Tour = 11,881
Aloha From Hawaii = 8,970
The Aloha album prior to this new release ie the Legacy release under streaming had done pretty well at just over 151k over the last 6/7 years
Physical for Aloha - the first week was around 3.2k but after that was too low to be on the radar as anything under 1,000 is not included, so on that basis, I'd estimate around 4.5k. Drip feed sales wil add over the weeks and months.

Well I just recieved this new release today and playing the newly mixed rehearsal show from 12th January ..straight away the mix, THE DRUM BEAT is a vast improvement, also shows up his inferior performances also such as during "Something" , however 'Steamroller Blues' sounds very strong indeed, seems they finally packed some 'Punch' into the show this time! Certainly my go too release to hear now

To me, this (especially the main show) is now the best sounding record I have of Elvis and possibly the best representation - sound wise - of the Elvis sound of the 70s.

Re: Aloha From Hawaii (Deluxe Edition) coming to streaming services August 11th
A very good comment. I just received my new Aloha set. I admit I was skeptical at first, but now that I have it the sound is outstanding, IMHO. It sounds like I am sitting right next to Ronnie Tutt on the drums. The TCB band is so incredible through this recording. The mixing is really done well from a musical perspective and Elvis' voice is amazing.
As a fan I do wish we could hear the audience more as I'm sure they were loud and responsive, but I guess that's the trade-off for the amazing sound we have.
While I have the original (on vinyl, cassette tape, 8-Track, original CD, Legacy and FTD), I do recommend this set.
