Don't drag me into your struggles, Keith. I bought the Garden set and it was worth every penny. That goes for the Aloha set, too. If you don't get it, you're missing out. I suggest you put on your big girl panties, as I did, and place your order.
Thanks in advance.

Re: Aloha From Hawaii (Deluxe Edition) coming to streaming services August 11th
Last night I listened to disc 1 the longer main show and whilst it has the better overall performance, having enjoyed the 'Punch' of the newly mastered show from 12th Jan I am afraid the MIX is better sounding now on the show from 12th. It's been well documented that Steamroller sounds better from 12th, yet welcome to my world and something are less good on 12th.I now agree.Thank goodness 'I can't stop loving you' on the 14th is an "ok" version- not "great" but "ok" .Hound Dog on both shows is a waste of time and perfunctory.Funny but now I want the sound mix from the new 12th Jan show throughput the 2nd show on 14th!. Still last night I especially liked the Jack Lord introduction.Funny how during both shows he partially stuffs up the amount raised for the Cancer fund. Also during J B.Goode on 14th it sounded like he says "play it Jerry" instead of what you would expect "play it James!?"

With The Beatles' 50th anniversary titles we have already reached the third official CD release of these particular albums, although this is the first time that out takes and bonus tracks have been included.LSP-4445 wrote: ↑Mon Sep 04, 2023 8:09 pmThe big difference…imo… regarding Elvis vs Beatles releases is that new Elvis releases have flooded the market for a really long time while Beatles have a new release every 3rd year or so…..maybe thats stretching it though but still not far from the truth?emjel wrote: ↑Tue Aug 29, 2023 11:14 am
I read in an interview a few years back where someone from Sony was asked about Elvis’ re-issue/repackaged sales compared to what Apple were doing and the response was that Sony really wished they could get similar sales with Elvis product as Apple did with The Beatles.
I believe the general public are confused or dont care much anymore as new Elvis releases is out many times a year.
A new Beatles release is almost a big happening while a new Elvis release is just one of MANY.
That said its great to be a Elvis fan due to this and on the other side must be boring to be a Beatles fan as nothing happens for them.
And Elvis` fans are lucky to have the FTD label
That certainly makes a difference, but I think the esteem in which the albums are held is also pivotal here. Elvis is perceived more as a singles artist, and whilst we as fans recognise the greatness of titles such as Elvis Is Back!, From Elvis In Memphis and Elvis Country, sadly they didn't have the commercial impact of The Beatles' albums, and don't really resonate with the general public in the same way.
We also have to consider the way Elvis' music was originally released. Sony have had to invest in quite a bit of revisionist history over the years, creating new CD titles to replace the grab bag compilations released during Elvis' lifetime. And whilst these were much more respectful to Elvis' legacy, they don't stir memories with casual buyers, and therefore, don't have the reputation of a classic title such as Revolver or Sgt Pepper.
In many respects reissues of original Elvis albums were always going to be a harder sell, but the market saturation and inconsistency in terms of how the music has been presented over the years certainly hasn't helped the situation.
Just look at the 1969 Memphis recordings for example. We've had straight CD re-issues of the original albums, rebranding with the Suspicious Minds anthology, an expanded version of From Elvis In Memphis, and a Legacy twofer which combined both albums and the respective singles releases etc. And that's just the mainstream releases.
Most of us would agree that the first Memphis album is one of Elvis' finest, but by the time we reached the 50th anniversary in 2019, there really wasn't much Sony could offer at retail level to drum up further interest, and we were left with a download compilation which was eventually issued by FTD.
The Beatles' catalogue has certainly been managed better at retail level, but in Elvis' case,it's too late in the day to change any of this now

Re: Aloha From Hawaii (Deluxe Edition) coming to streaming services August 11th
That sums it up quite nicely. Whilst Elvis’ albums were indeed very popular, as you say, they did not have the memorable impact that The Beatles albums did because of their creativity and how they wanted to put their albums together. Each one was seen as a progression not only in creativity but song writing too. That basically peaked with Pepper in 1967, but that does not mean that the next few albums should be written off - the White album has 24 x Platinum RIAA certification.rockinrebel wrote: ↑Mon Sep 11, 2023 10:50 pmWith The Beatles' 50th anniversary titles we have already reached the third official CD release of these particular albums, although this is the first time that out takes and bonus tracks have been included.LSP-4445 wrote: ↑Mon Sep 04, 2023 8:09 pmThe big difference…imo… regarding Elvis vs Beatles releases is that new Elvis releases have flooded the market for a really long time while Beatles have a new release every 3rd year or so…..maybe thats stretching it though but still not far from the truth?emjel wrote: ↑Tue Aug 29, 2023 11:14 am

With regard to Elvis’ albums, there is no doubt that continued re-issued and revamped releases have not helped but even without them, it is doubtful that 50th anniversary releases of Elvis original albums would have generated the kind of sales that Apple do. Apart from the 1969 album From Elvis in Memphis, no others have the memorable clout or sales that would make them recognisable 50 years later.
The media wouldn’t be able to make anything significant to write about for a 50th anniversary release of say Something for Everybody, Elvis That’s The Way It Is or Promised Land. And I believe this is why BMG and Sony have gone down the route they have because the only way they can maintain interest in the back catalogue is to do revamped or expanded editions every five or ten years.
And with over 700 songs that Elvis recorded, it offers Sony much better options to release a variety of compilations, whether that be hits, love songs, gospel comps and soundtrack comps every few years. The Beatles or Apple do not have that kind of option with just two hundred songs recorded.
But back to the Apple re-issue programme, the albums that so far have received the new treatment were big events and massive sellers when they were originally released and because the group were more accessible than Elvis was because of the way Parker controlled things. So once a new release is announced, the media simply takes over and can then report on how things happened all those decades ago which creates interest all over again.
It is clear however that Elvis’ hit compilation albums continue to sell very well and those compilations always have no matter what guise they take. It’s just his regular albums whether that be studio or soundtrack do not have that same pull and interest.

Has anyone on the forum checked if Aloha, now available for purchase on Apple TV, is the same as the one on the Blu-ray? Unfortunately, I'm unable to verify it myself as I don't have a Blu-ray player.

I own this 3CD+BD box. Is there any need to buy the 2022 FTD 3CD set?

I agree with you. The number of Elvis releases, compilations and re-releases has been huge. This confuses the consumer who may think that Elvis Presley was just a singer.LSP-4445 wrote: ↑Mon Sep 04, 2023 8:09 pmThe big difference…imo… regarding Elvis vs Beatles releases is that new Elvis releases have flooded the market for a really long time while Beatles have a new release every 3rd year or so…..maybe thats stretching it though but still not far from the truth?emjel wrote: ↑Tue Aug 29, 2023 11:14 am

I still think Sony should have continued with the 8" box strategy, for example, they could have released "Elvis in 1972", containing an overview of what Elvis recorded in 1972, concluding with one of the Madison Square Garden concerts. After that, "Elvis in 1973" and so on.

Re: Aloha From Hawaii (Deluxe Edition) coming to streaming services August 11th
I don't see why anyone would buy both the apple TV version and the blu-ray version in order to compare. Generally speaking the discs are usually better than the streaming versions when it comes to 4k, but as this is 1080p this difference is reduced. If Apple have used this release as the master for the streaming version is really the question. The branding on the site uses the album cover, but the publishing date is 2023. It is hard to guess what they have used.
