All Purpose Elvis Vinyl Thread

#1961800

Post by londonflash »

It would be cool to have a dedicated vinyl sub-forum for those interested in discussing that aspect of Elvis collecting. But, in the meantime, thought I'd create a thread where hopefully people can share their collections, their wishlists, favourite pressings, record fair / shop bargains, Discogs / eBay adventures etc.

I bought my first LP in the summer (Fun In Acapulco FTD) and have picked up nearly 50 (crikey) titles since then, a mix of FTDs and Legacy albums, a couple of modern reissues and a lot of original UK pressings.

Just won a US 1976 His Hand In Mine US release, less than a tenner with postage so quite pleased with that.

Not sure how this will work, and it might be a bit of a free-for-all but can't wait to chat vinyl with like-minded fans.

Would like a permanent vinyl tread. Would save starting a new tread whenever someone has a vinyl question.
I collect mainly vinyl, the only CDs I purchase are FTD and any mainstream sets, such as stax sessions etc.
Some of my collection.

Not sure I like the kind of storing as it reminds me too much of being in a record shop and less of a collection at home. But tastes are different of course.

IT’s excellent, Ivan. That’s All Right (dry single version) doesn’t sound that great to me.

Thanks Lester, I’ll try to find a copy. Currently my sun vinyl is represented by Elvis at Sun. It sounds very good, but the European pressing has an issue: the A side was pressed like uncentered. I had a copy I had to throw it away. My current one still has it but less pronounced. I may track an US version. The most recent a boy from Tupelo vinyl, I find it to be a bit dull.

Yes Ivan, Boy From Tupelo one does sound dull! The Kevan Budd one is great but the MRS has the outtakes etc. their vinyl generally sounds excellent.

Did you ever the get the 1976 USA sun lp

No I haven’t got this one. I’ve read that side one sounds dull compared to side 2 on Discogs???

However, the SUN tracks on the candlelight boxsets generally sound loud, punchy and exciting. The SUN tracks on the 2018 Japanese analogue press sound amazing too. I may buy a copy to see?

Could I request a slight tweak?

Maybe a non-CD section, not just limited to vinyl but any original format releases, cassette, 8 Track / Q8, or reel to reel and especially shellac for the 78rpm freaks like me

I am 100% with you sweetangeline. I prefer going through the collection being able to look at the covers instead of from the sides. Hate to say it Markus, but the record shop look I like. This is my collection:

I purchase it from a thrift store. It was full of vinyl when I got it. Store sold them as a lot 2 units full of records $300.
I like the unit because like you said it's easy to find a record. I have to upright units I also use for vinyl.

I have t say it does remind me of going into a Record shop but it does look cool! 😎 One other good thing is you have easy accessibility to all your records this way! 💿

Here's my little collection of albums. I bought my first one in the summer so I guess I've been quite busy.
