Re: ELVIS IN MOBILE 1976 Hotel Info?? Please
If I remember correctly Elvis stayed in the Holiday Inn Hotel downtown historic district.
301 Government Street Mobile Alabama. Though I believe the hotel was under another
name at the time. It might have been the Sheraton or possibly Hilton.
It's a unique shaped hotel. Kind of rounded for lack of a precise word. It's very close
to the Mobile Municipal Auditorium. Also within walking distance of the Mobile Saenger
Theater which is an awesome venue. It seats near 2,000 people.
To be clear when I said "walking distance" I wouldn't recommend anyone walking in Mobile
especially at night.

Hope his Mobile hotel was nicer than his Pine Bluff 1976 accommodations...

Re: ELVIS IN MOBILE 1976 Hotel Info?? Please
According to the book "Did Elvis sing in your home town too?", there's an interesting insight around his 1975 visit.
Stating Elvis stayed at the Battleship Inn.
While the rest of the tour crew stayed at the Holiday Inn.
Apparently the Battleship Inn was pretty close by the concert venue.
This may have been the case in 1976 also but either way, it's worth checking things out a bit more.
On the 1976 show, flying in from Houston Elvis was back to conscious for the afternoon show and apparently the ES was a good one.

If that's so, then I might have sold Elvis' Battleship Inn furniture.
Around 1984 I was a manager at a furniture store. One of my
jobs was to tear down a hotel room. And then ship it to our
warehouse in Baldwin County (adjacent to Mobile). The Inn
was on the Mobile Causeway with just a quick trip through
the Wallace Tunnel to get to the venue.
I went room to room at the inn preparing the furniture and
such to be hauled to our warehouse/store for resale. So there's
a good chance I was in Elvis' room, and sold it to someone who
like me would have been unaware of the Elvis connection.
But I do believe that in 1976 and '77 he stayed at the hotel
previously mentioned. I believe I saw that story on one of
our local NBC News Channels. Seems like they showed the
windows of the hotel rooms covered with aluminum.
By the way, I was only 10, 11 and 12 years old when I saw
Elvis in Mobile in 1975, '76 and 1977.

Instead of editing...
The quick trip would have been from the Mobile Causeway
to and through the "Bankhead" Tunnel to the Mobile Municipal
Auditorium (now the Mobile Civic Center).
I remember the trip to the auditorium. Traffic was backed up
there because of the number of people trying to get to the Elvis
concert. It seemed like it took forever to get through that tunnel.
I also remember Jackie Kahane joking about the auditorium.
Something about the seating capacity being more than the
parking capacity. Which was actually true.

Thank you very much, ladies and gentlemen.
