Very well said. The stereo sound certainly is an improvement to my ears.On Tape 1972 wrote: ↑Sun Dec 17, 2023 10:29 pmAudio recordings should be considered as a representation of reality rather than an exact replica. A straight, unaltered mono soundboard isn't closer to what actually happened than MRS' machine learning efforts. One could even argue MRS is attempting to close the gap between a mono soundboard (a very limited representation of what was going on) and, what possibly could have been, a professional multi-track-recording (a much more accurate, but still limited representation of Elvis' concert performance).
It's somewhat difficult for me to accept that digitally extracted stereo is inferior, fake or whatever you like to call it, like some users seem to think. I'm also not going to apologize for buying the occasional MRS title, because it's just a tiny fraction of what I (happily) spend on FTD products year after year after year.

FTD is the only label that brings us new stuff.
When the label ends, we all lose out.
All that MRS does is repackage FTD releases.
They're nothing more than scavengers,
ripping off the work of others.
And yet you see a handful of simpletons talking about grey market products AFTER the FTD label stops.
Maybe they'll just poach RCA titles from that point.
The simpletons will love it!

If only they would put a little more care in their releases.
If only they would return to their original book formats.
If only the would release twofers instead of 3 CD-sets double the price (when nobody cares for the 3rd added CD).
I guess it's the new business model imposed by Sony ... "You shall not release anything at normal prices anymore, because these addicted suckers will buy anything at any price!"
You know, that version of "Dixie" and uh, the "Battle Hymn of the Republic," it's so beautiful!
The band he's put together is so over-the-top, and only Elvis would have that kinda spending power, and just audacious craziness. Choirs, and orchestras, and a great rhythm section, maybe another gospel group on the side. None of it makes sense until you suddenly hear something like that, and they're all playing a role in that, and it's very moving music. That's the pure joy of music in the man. You know, that's when I see everything stop.

The reality is that releases from FTD will end at sometime , whether or not MRS exists, and when it does end, that won’t be dictated by MRS, but by Ernst calling it a day or by Sony telling them to wrap it up.Union Ave wrote: ↑Mon Dec 18, 2023 2:31 pmLee Wood wrote: ↑Sun Dec 17, 2023 1:38 pmEach new FTD release of ridiculously priced CD/book combos brings us closer to the demise if FTD.

Despite the flaws you mention, it's still the only label that brings us new material on a regular basis. And they still have plenty left to release.
One day, when it all ends, we are going to miss it. No more new shows. No more variations of certain songs. No more new cool dialogue from EP. And even, dare I say it, no more discussion about the speed of the recording. Nothing. Just let that sink in for a moment.
And, as we both know, your boy JP is nothing more than an Ernst Jørgensen wannabe. And he may be loud, he may be bold, but he has nothing to offer but hot air. He's a fraud.
And when FTD ends, the source for his releases ends.
Regarding your comments and accusations attacking the owner of MRS, claiming he has nothing to offer, I suspect many people would completely disagree with you, and those people are not necessarily represented on here but by casual fans who buy from their local store or via Amazon.

No argument with that.

JP is not my boy. I don't know him, I've never seen him or communicated with him. I have no idea what kind of person he is. I doubt very much that he is a Ernst Jørgensen wannabe and I don't know why you would say he is a fraud. How so? I will however defend his right in doing what he does with the MRS label. That's not so say I blindly buy everything that the label releases, I don't, and nor will I.
And when FTD ends, the source for his releases ends.
I doubt it.

Do you also mean like FTD and Sony with the Aloha material to rip off the fans???
For me its „very bad style“ to sell many overpriced CD‘s with wrong speed.
I'm looking forward to the first sound examples... and then I'll probably buy it with joy. A joy that I haven't experienced with FTD releases for a long time.

So far I have both the FTD originals and the MRS counterparts. My theory is that MRS superimposes the audience recording over the soundboard to achieve the ambience and stereo.

Check out this Straight Arrow release of the show from 2015... I just ordered this CD (haven't received it yet) but the sound for an audience recording is exceptional (see sound sample of My Way). I only ever had a cassette recording of this show (audience recording) purchased from Larry Patrick back in the day...

Basically, what's referred to as a Matrix recording. They are actually quite good as some sound boards sound really flat so mixing in the audience recording adds the 'live' feel and enhances the listening experience.

It's also no coincidence that these MRS titles sound like the DAE bootlegs from the 90s.

It's true that they usually sound good but not always the case as is with Binaural recordings. One show I quite like from 1976 is March 20th Evening Show "Running For President"(1997) and when it was on CD 2 of "Springtime Tours 76 -77: (2010) in binaural I thought this would make it sound better but it didn't.On Tape 1972 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 19, 2023 7:22 amhttps://forums.stevehoffman.tv/threads/eric-records-and-digitally-extracted-stereo-des.1126791/SpyGuyUK wrote: ↑Tue Dec 19, 2023 6:50 amBasically, what's referred to as a Matrix recording. Sounded too thin and the sound on one channel was much louder than the other. Sounded unevenly balanced to me.
I double checked this quite recently actually. I'm sure binaural sounds good sometimes but not in this case.
Don't get me wrong it's a great release despite this - The Johnson concert from March 17th was an unreleased stereo soundboard recording at the time.
"My Way" from 1977 in Abilene was the version with the spoken lyrics and all the 1977 tracks were multi-track recordings from 1977.

That strikes me as a lot of hearsay. And what exactly constitutes threatening mails and on what basis would he actually write them to EJ to start of with?
The use of the word "apparently" just doesn’t cut it when attempting to discredit someone or prove a point. I could suggest that you and The Doc on here both hate JP with a passion, which would be based on the majority of your comments on here about him and his company and you would have a mission to destroy his company. Calling members on here simpletons who don’t subscribe to your thoughts doesn’t help your arguments either. You need to grow up.
