Exactly. Always has been like that in the case of Qobuz. I'd get the high-res-material from somewhere else though. Highresaudio.com is a little less pricey and they have excellent quality control.Johnny2523 wrote: ↑Thu Jun 13, 2024 10:24 pmPretty much always has been because the sound quality is much higher.emjel wrote: ↑Thu Jun 13, 2024 9:34 pmSo are you saying that a set of hi res download files will be more expensive ve than a physiacl set which needs to be manufactured (designed, pressed and printed) and then distributed. On Tape 1972 wrote: ↑Thu Jun 13, 2024 8:24 pmSome high-res downloads can be pricey. Elvis didn't cut that in Memphis in November 1955.
He did, however, cover a Sun single A-side, issued the previous January:

The concept seems pretty straightforward, a collection of all Presley masters recorded in Memphis (plus some bonus cuts).

It is confirmed the masters are remixed??
By the way, a pity Mark James just died. It is amazing how relative is time, when we were opening the Memphis record or the essential 60’s masters, those recordings were old but were indeed 18 to 24 years old. Now the Memphis record and the essential 60’s masters are 37 and 31 years old.

It’s unbelievable if those songs are missing yet they’ve included a crap recording like Hey Jude and the This Time medley thing. What dozey cretin made those decisions if those songs in that list above are missing.Rockin_John wrote: ↑Thu Jun 13, 2024 11:46 pmBut it is not a all recorded masters...drjohncarpenter wrote: ↑Thu Jun 13, 2024 11:43 pm

Maybe but it’s advertised as 16/44 and with prices starting from $139. So that suggests that the hi-red stuff is going to be more.Johnny2523 wrote: ↑Thu Jun 13, 2024 10:24 pmPretty much always has been because the sound quality is much higher.emjel wrote: ↑Thu Jun 13, 2024 9:34 pmSo are you saying that a set of hi res download files will be more expensive ve than a physiacl set which needs to be manufactured (designed, pressed and printed) and then distributed. On Tape 1972 wrote: ↑Thu Jun 13, 2024 8:24 pmSome high-res downloads can be pricey. Even more interesting is that Elvis and the band rehearsing it in 1970 manage to get the key right instantly and shows how it should have sounded albeit short.pmp wrote: ↑Fri Jun 14, 2024 1:07 amWho needs Inherit the Wing and This is the Story when you can have four and a half minutes of Elvis singing Hey Jude out of tune?MysteryTrain wrote: ↑Thu Jun 13, 2024 9:00 pmThese tracks seem to be missing from the American Sound Sessions:colonel snow wrote: ↑Thu Jun 13, 2024 8:23 pmIn a quick view to the tracklist I’ve not discovered unreleased tracks.

WOW. This is what I’ve been expecting based on what we heard already BUT I’m surprised some are missing and the big question, WILL THE SUN TRACKS BE IN STEREO? I hope so. This is there chance to get them out there.

Re: Elvis Presley: Memphis (Box Set)
But what's the point?
The Sun sides were released on A Boy From Tupelo seven years ago at retail.
The Memphis concert has been dished up in three different mixes already.
The Jungle Room sessions were dealt with very well in the Way Down in the Jungle Room set.
The Memphis 69 stuff leaves out eight tracks, but includes the Hey Jude mess and the This Time medley. WTF?
And the Stax recordings leaves out four tracks - including two songs that were deemed worthy enough to be single sides, but keeps Three Corn Patches (and the disc only runs 72 minutes anyway, and so could have included a couple more songs easily).
So the general public interested in this kind of deep dive will already have past reiterations of this material from the last decade or so (ABFT, Way Down, Elvis at Stax, From Elvis in Memphis and Memphis 74 legacy editions).
It's not complete enough to interest more hardcore fans.
And there's nothing new here for collectors.
And some of these choices seem very weird.
Good Times (complete) is 29:23
Promised Land (complete) is 28:37
Raised on Rock (not including Are You Sincere, I Miss You, and Sweet Angeline) is 20:00.
That's under 80 minutes, and so means they could have included ALL the Stax tracks on one disc, and not leave ANY tracks out.
I realise the timings on the Qobuz website indicates that they are adding in studio chatter (not needed at retail level) and/or using unedited versions, but, again, even they have generally already been released at retail level.
So why not just keep it simple, and include a remix (if that's what people want) of all masters professionally recorded in Memphis? Five discs would do that easily.
It seems yet another half-hearted, how-can-we-screw-this-up effort from Sony at retail.

Re: Elvis Presley: Memphis (Box Set)
Well, it’s finally coming and if we are treated to fresh mixes of the original (poor) mixing/mastering, then I’m all in as well. I would assume that this is the case as to what would be the sense or selling points?
If it’s just the same old rehashed material, then I will skip and just stick with my original releases.
I’m thinking that FTD has some sessions sets planned for this material anyway so that may be the route to go.

The choices they made regarding hey Jude also bother me, but people saying is the same material all over again… it has to be. There’s nothing more. And I’m happy they focused again on the masters. But even if they would have featured outtakes, how many complete takes of those songs remain unreleased?

Yes but the only tech RCA should be using to demix is Jacksons tech, which makes it highly unlikely we see any mono to stereo releases from RCA.PiersEIN wrote: ↑Fri Jun 14, 2024 5:30 amWhat about if they were DES STEREO?
