Lost and Found -- Shrine Auditorium, June 1956!
Found these images below today, four great shots from the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles on Friday, June 8, 1956:
Lot #5064 - Elvis Presley Group of Photographs
https://www.rrauction.com/auctions/lot-detail/338763005245064-elvis-presley-group-of-photographs/
Elvis was having quite a busy week in the Golden State:
Jun 3 (Sun) - two performances, Oakland
Jun 4 (Mon) - "Milton Berle" rehearsals, NBC Burbank
Jun 5 (Tue) - "Milton Berle" rehearsals and live broadcast, NBC Burbank
Jun 6 (Wed) - performance, San Diego
Jun 7 (Thu) - performance, Long Beach
Presley's set on Friday night in the City of Angels was crowd-pleasing, to be sure:
Heartbreak Hotel
Long Tall Sally
I Was The One
I Got A Woman
I Want You, I Need You, I Love You
Blue Suede Shoes
Hound Dog
Two unrecorded covers!
The photographer -- I found a few years back -- was Ernest E. Reshovsky.
At the time he was a Los Angeles-based, freelance magazine photographer-columnist. He shot a lot of Hollywood stars and such. One of his Elvis images ended up on the cover of the classic '50s box released by RCA back in the summer of 1992.
Back in 1978 one made the cover of a legendary bootleg album, which also included a booklet filled with even more Reshovsky images from the show ("LIVE IN '55" was a typo). At the time these unpublished photos were found, unmarked, at a Los Angeles vintage/second-hand store. Lucky,
Anyway, not sure if any here are "new" but they're sure fun to see and nice quality.
Elvis was on top of the world.

Great photos, John! Any one of which could have made an incredible album cover...
I can only imagine walking into a record shop in 1956 and seeing the latest Elvis Presley long play record on the shelf with this cover... WOW!! It doesn't get any cooler than that!!

Capturing photos of this quality with the equipment of the time was no easy task I suspect.
These images are new to me - wonderful stuff.

It's 800 miles from my house to Graceland, but I'm always up for making the trip!

And there are many more from that performance.
Wish we had a tape recording!

Wow! These shots are heavenly and incredible! Heavenly-incredible!!!
Beautiful clarity and glorious poses on each, from poised and ready, to sylph-like and playful, to wild and raucous, to mock-constipated and flush with hormonal longing: the quintessential agony and ecstasy of youth, the guile and the glory of the young King!
Brilliant, Doc. Brilliant.
