Just be grateful that we are still getting these brilliant sets from FTD. Back in the 70s & 80s this set alone would have been the grail.Elvis2000 wrote: ↑Sat Aug 03, 2024 8:56 pmIt's fine they'll use Stay Away, Joe shots for the Clambake sessions set.elvisalisellers wrote: ↑Sat Aug 03, 2024 8:14 pmI get that some of these tracks featured on the Clambake soundtrack album, but, man, again opting to use publicity shots from this movie seem so anachronistic in contrast to the majority of the material recorded.
The bravado ruggedness of Stay Away, Joe era shots have much more synergism.

I’ve never not been grateful for what FTD have done for us fans, but at the same time we are allowed to criticise when they deserve it.draig goch wrote: ↑Sun Aug 04, 2024 11:36 amJust be grateful that we are still getting these brilliant sets from FTD. Criticism is ok but we don’t need pages of topics of those . after Elvis dead we got only one outake on a lp. Who’s nagging about a few edits ? Come on guys .

Re: Guitar Man - The Sessions 1967-68 New FTD Set. Summer 2024
From what I have read on FB its quite a bit of dialogue between some takes but also in take stuff.
Apparently the takes are complete but elvis voice is just muted briefly during the bad language parts.
I guess similar to what was done with TLTOAGR take 5 on the From Elvis At American Sound (FTD)
Its better that we get these things edited rather than not getting the recordings at all.
Still im looking forward to hearing this release.

Is a list of all the F.T.D. CDs were they cut the dialogue out for whatever reason.?

As well as the more accurate timeline [taken virtually bang in the middle of the September '67 and January '68 sessions - the latter of which produced a single that used "SAJ" cover art], the Stay Away, Joe shots show a revitalised artist with his mojo back, wholly reflected in the new music he recorded.drjohncarpenter wrote: ↑Sun Aug 04, 2024 2:27 amelvisalisellers wrote: ↑Sat Aug 03, 2024 8:14 pmI get that some of these tracks featured on the Clambake soundtrack album, but, man, again opting to use publicity shots from this movie seem so anachronistic in contrast to the majority of the material recorded.

It's all more than half a century ago, the entire thing is anachronistic.
Also, the majority of the material?
Nearly 65% of the title derives from September 1967.
"Clambake" PR photos were made late April 1967, just four and a half months out.
"Stay Away Joe" PR photos made late November 1967, about two and a half months out.
But more are found from a location session than from at the movie studio. And they aren't very good.
The "Clambake" portraits are plentiful and nice quality, that had to be a factor. And they more closely resemble the guy who went to Nashville that September.
'
Converesely, the Clambake "portraits" - for the most part - display a man looking bored out of his skull merely going through the motions.

From what I've heard, Elvis is muted when it comes to "a**hole", "sh*t" and such ("Goin' Home", Take 5). Feels like going back about three decades, when they released the edited rehearsal of "Stranger In My Own Home Town"philobeddo wrote: ↑Sun Aug 04, 2024 10:59 amCan somebody tell what exactly is left out? Apparently, this is Wings Of An Angel and US Male take 10 from the new FTD Boxset? Can’t remember hearing the end of take 10 like that before? Posted 12 days ago so not sure if this really is from the new Boxset.

From "what you've heard" we're missing a tremendous amount of artistry.
Outtakes from a sub-tier, 1968 Presley film soundtrack, ruined for generations to come.
Such a shame you aren't in charge. The legacy is being destroyed before our very eyes.

Like with "Stay Away Joe"? "Goin' Home"?
You ignore clear points I made for your personal feelings.
I suspect that those points were part of Roger Semon's considerations in art direction for this project.

With first-rate recordings such as "Guitar Man", "Big Boss Man", "Hi-Heel Sneakers", You'll Never Walk Alone", "U.S. Male" and "Too Much Monkey Business".
That said, I'd definitely take "Stay Away, Joe" and "Goin' Home" over "Hey, Hey, Hey" and "Who Needs Money?"

It very obviously isn't from the new FTD boxset. This take 10 has been around forever though, on There's Always Me, the Sessions From Clambake set, and there was a CDr years ago called Big Boss Guitar Man. It's also on the Close Up set and the Stay Away Joe FTD, but faded early.

You were suspended, hadrjohncarpenter wrote: ↑Sun Aug 04, 2024 1:08 amYour opinions are so consistently superficial you should have your own place in the fool's hall of fame.
I will explain to you why my opinions matter way more than yours.
You are desperate to be liked by Ernst so that he calls you to collaborate on his projects. So you are clearly biased.
I am just an Elvis fan and FTD buyer since the label inception and as a paying customer I have a valid opinion on what I like and what I don't and I don't need to suck up to anyone like you do.

Guitar Man - The Sessions 1967-68 New FTD Set. Summer 2024
I think we should get over with the “in the 80’s there was just an occasional outtake, so we should be grateful”, because it’s a bit like saying, hey 100 years ago people worked for 927391279 hours a day so we should be grateful to work 7-8. Just because things were worse or a mess 20-30-40 years ago doesn’t mean we shouldn’t keep wanting things to go better and better.
That said, for me (and it’s just an opinion) the studio sets are amazing. On the contrary, the soundboards are more questionable. But it’s my opinion.
On the main label, I don’t get the policy of issuing unfinished masters. It would be great to feature them, but don’t make them the main feature. All 69 masters finished and remixed and maybe a cd of bonus material is ok, but an unfinished suspicious minds is like son of a preacher man without horns etc. ok for fans or casual fans as a curiosity, but that’s all.
