This is the end of the line for me! A remix of the Elvis In Concert album, along with other multitrack recordings made during the '77 tours would be a wiser way to somehow end what is coming to an end anyway!
Why would this be the end? People been saying the end is coming for over a decade.

They can easily do a multitude of 4CD sets that cover 1974/1975/1976 as well. Besides the session series and the books and the vinyls. Ernst even said he recently renewed his contract so we atleast have another 4 to 5 years.

No i read that i mostly was replying to your last sentence
"A remix of the Elvis In Concert album, along with other multitrack recordings made during the '77 tours would be a wiser way to somehow end what is coming to an end anyway!" Which made it sound like ftd is coming to an end soon

Take my money. Plus it's finally nice to see February 21st be released in full. All of the releases miss CHFIL except for Cajun Tornado. And it seems they are skipping Danny Boy/ Walk With Me from Sherrill Nielsen on February 13th, so this either means that the one released from A Profile Vol 1 doesn't belong to this show or they couldn't get the rights, which wouldn't be right as they've released him singing Danny Boy before. No one cares I bet, but a mystery nonetheless.

It would have been nice if atleast Big Boss Man, Help Me and My Way with its reprise would have been included from the 15th.

What’s the deal with this? Is it a soundboard and audience tape combined?

Among the best 1977 pictures I've seen of him.
Charlie and Jerry didn't make the cut. :)

Yeah, sounds like a matrix recording to me. Not a bad result though, however it's so disappointing as to why the sound engineers used this set up by way of the piano track and not continue the same format as before. Could be one source of a binaural tape? Just a thought. But it's such a frustrating mystery.

I wouldn't be in the least bit surprised if volume 2 featured 7 incomplete shows from 24th to 30th March 1977
That would bring us 1977 over 4 volumes then?

Volume 1: February 12-21
Volume 2: March 24-30
Volume 3: April 21-May 3
Volume 4: May 20-June 26

Anyway: This raises the question if FTD is now emptying the vaults completely by releasing all the soundboards of all the concert years on "Complete tours" compilation CDs? The concept seems a bit like what FTD did earlier, when they released all the classic albums on FTD, by starting the Complete Sessions series.
I think this format of releasing more than three shows in one set is only applicable to the 1977 recordings, they didn’t record the opening numbers and intros so it would make it easier to fit two recordings on one disc. So I assume they’re just getting 1977 over and done with as quickly as possible with a handful of sets, rather than drag it out.
While I'm all for that approach, FTD should be using the best shows available from each tour.

Am I the only one in the room trying to figure out why Feb 20 is included when it was already released on "Unchained Melody" FTD while Feb 15th was excluded? I will have to keep my "Having Fun in Orlando" bootleg!

Perhaps Cisco or someone else who helps the FTD label can explain the reasoning behind this decision?
Rest assured, you're not the only one wondering. Also the exclusion of Savannah GA from the 17th.

Also on a finer point, I also find the track splicing from Are You Lonesome Tonight and the aborted That's Alright, really annoying too. Last night I played the Moody Blue boot and Are You Lonesome Tonight went 4:05" secs. Exactly the same track time as this FTD, with the Reconsider Baby track not starting until Elvis sings the first lyric, cutting out the acoustic intro which robs the song of it's completeness, yet the same track continues through the false start to That's Alright Mama, which was aborted shortly after. IMHO, this should have been given it's own track to separate what was sung. This will be a nightmare to include in a playlist. At least the splicing on the 'Unchained Melody' FTD was spot on from beginning to end of 'Reconsider'.

Last time we got a 4CD set it was to get us used to the new £50 price tag, we went from 3 for £34, to 4 for £50, and it's been 3 for £50 since , I wonder if this is going to be the same.

It's been the end of the line for me for a couple of years now. This means I have become more and more selective and certainly do not buy every single project FTD releases, ignore the too expensive book projects and stopped buying FTD vinyl after the price increase a couple of years ago.
But I value FTD and I do appreciate Ernst extending his contract. Whenever FTD release value for money audio sets like "Complete sessions" or "Complete tour" sets I will consider the purchase, but these are not no-brainers. Not anymore.

I'm all for digital downloads at this point, either exclusively from the FTD site (charging a premium per download), or via general download sites like Spotify, iTunes, Amazon, etc. :smt023

The saddest performance is the abysmal 13th Feb show.
Sounds like he had just stumbled out of bed a very poor voice and a very dissapointing show throughout- thankfully things improve a LOT from 14th onwards.
Listened to the AR from that 13th, for hearing the complete show (next too the SB from "Comming on strong")... don't find it abysmal at all.
A good "Hurt", a suprising upbeat (and early in the show) faster "Litlle sister" and a surprise at the end with "Jailhouse rock" added.
A very good "My way too"... in fact, none of the songs that night where "poor", he is in good sprits and clearly "awake", i enjoyed it and the crowd too!

On the 12th too. He's in good spirits, energetic and singing quite enthusiastic. The way he sings See See Rider is comparable to December 1976. The just looks plain awful and I think that's why some people think these shows are bad. The does get tired a lot faster than the previous months though.

Coming to and end!....Plenty of miles still left in the tank as long as the FTD product is cost effective and making a profit. Unreleased soundboards, re-release of previous deleated products, many complete session sets still to be released. Would love to see the Legendary performer series covered with additional tracks and the two gold record box sets from the early 70s.

There are three tracks from the Orlando concert on the bootleg CD ''Accros The Country'' Vol. 2 from Audionics. You can clearly hear how this soundboard was recorded. The piano is so upfront that you barely hear the other instruments.

Boxcar's box set, ''The Final Curtain'' (2011), features a stunning version of the Orlando concert, in terms of sound. Admittedly incomplete. As evidenced by fantastic re-mastering, the instruments are so much better balanced. Drums, guitar, etc., are now audible.

It may be a reason that FTD, due to the instruments not being balanced, does not select the Orlande segment on the announced set.

So a bootleg company can restore the soundboard and release it in good sound in 2011 but FTD doesn't have the resources to do it in 2024?
For chrissake, they can just copy the bootleg and make everybody happy, it's not like Boxcar Enterprises will sue Ernst for copying their bootleg :facep:

Ernst, if you are reading this, I can send you my "Having fun in Orlando" CD so you can release it on FTD.

I'm hopeful these new releases will be available at Graceland by the time I go down there at the end of September so I finally don't have to pay shipping for something... but it's probably wishful thinking...

There are countless cases where official releases lifted stuff from Bootlegs. Even the Sgt Pepper super deluxe box set got an alt mix of Penny Lane from a bootleg that was lifted from an acetate.

Good that different people have different opinions regarding the shows, but it's certain that some good performances will be missing from this set by not including anything from 15th or 17th Feb shows.
