Good that different people have different opinions regarding the shows, but it's certain that some good performances will be missing from this set by not including anything from 15th or 17th Feb shows.
They should have put one of those shows on the cd set instead of the Feb 20th Charlotte, North Carolina show that they already released on the Unchained Melody FTD disc.

It may be a reason that FTD, due to the instruments not being balanced, does not select the Orlande segment on the announced set.
So a bootleg company can restore the soundboard and release it in good sound in 2011 but FTD doesn't have the resources to do it in 2024?
For chrissake, they can just copy the bootleg and make everybody happy, it's not like Boxcar Enterprises will sue Ernst for copying their bootleg :facep:

Ernst, if you are reading this, I can send you my "Having fun in Orlando" CD so you can release it on FTD.
That would be quite the story with FTD copying from MRS. I don't think Ernst would give Pirzada that satisfaction.
I think it was the right call not to include that recording in this set for reasons of audio quality. And while the tinkered release is a nice gimmick it is far from being a good listen and comparable in audio quality to the other selections so it was the right call to keep it clean.

I don't understand the moaning in regards to the Savannah show though as these posts make it sound like FTD has access to this tape and refuses to put it out. But we don't know that and I think it is safe to assume that it is simply missing from the vault and so had to be omitted. Again, like with the Orlando show, I don't see it as a viable alternative to simply copy/past selected tracks from an AR to this set just for the sake of it. Ernst made the right decision to include what he had access to and leave out whatever inferior material was doing the rounds on bootlegs.

The only valid mild criticism would be the edit of material (although not Elvis' performance in that case). I think it was a mix of a creative choice and commercial interest though to cut the Sherrill Nielsen tracks from the West Palm Beach show. It has never been a fan favorite when being released on a CD in the first place and most likely royalties to the Sherrill Nielsen estate would have to be paid. And if anyone is really missing the recordings they can easily find them online or get the old bootleg title for little money anyways.

It would be interesting to learn if FTD definitly doesn't have the shows from 02/12 and 02/17 or if they are available in the vaults but feature poor audio.

Again, the Orlando recording is inferior to the rest of the recordings on the set, so leaving it off the set was the right decision.

Whilst an improvement on what was available, that boot is nowhere near good in terms of sound quality, heavily noise reduced, possibly heavily compressed, imbalanced and inconsistent. I’m not sure about anyone else but I’d find it very jarring to go from near perfect recordings to the Orlando recording and then back to near perfect recordings.

All that being said, I would like to see the Orlando and Savannah shows released down the line however.

I don't think it works that way. If FTD doesn't have Orlando, FTD certainly won't use the Boxcar audio as a source.
There are countless cases where official releases lifted stuff from Bootlegs. Even the Sgt Pepper super deluxe box set got an alt mix of Penny Lane from a bootleg that was lifted from an acetate.

I don't know this. The policy behind The Beatles catalog is or may be different from that of Jorgensen

It's well worth reading the "Crazy Cannuck" an eye witness to concert recordings on this very site.
He CLEARLY STATES that by the pool on Feb 13th....he heard Ronnie tutt playing I got a woman from the previous nights Soundboard of 12th Feb show in PERFECT QUALITY , but because people were gathering around he stopped playing it!
So from this statement alone I would surely guess the whole tour was recorded but that for some reason FTD do not have the tapes from 12th,15th + 17th February.

I remember reading that, It just seems odd it would have i got a woman, since all recordings from this tour seem to start a couple songs in.

Dang. I wondered what happened to Claude. I used to be in touch with him way way back in the day. Got some nice rare stuff from him too from time to time.

This is the end of the line for me! A remix of the Elvis In Concert album, along with other multitrack recordings made during the '77 tours would be a wiser way to somehow end what is coming to an end anyway!
Why would this be the end? People been saying the end is coming for over a decade.

They can easily do a multitude of 4CD sets that cover 1974/1975/1976 as well. Besides the session series and the books and the vinyls. Ernst even said he recently renewed his contract so we atleast have another 4 to 5 years.
Johnny! You forgot to read: "for me"! 8)
No i read that i mostly was replying to your last sentence
"A remix of the Elvis In Concert album, along with other multitrack recordings made during the '77 tours would be a wiser way to somehow end what is coming to an end anyway!" Which made it sound like ftd is coming to an end soon

Sorry! But, it is...

I am listening to my "Having fun in Orlando" bootleg as I type and I have heard worse quality soundboards from FTD. The sound is perfectly fine for an FTD release if not stellar.

If they do a volume 2 to cover the March tours, I assume they will include the Amarillo show (3/24/77) which is a very hard to find FTD these days.
I look forward to it, it's the only CD missing from my collection!

This is up for preorder on Shop Graceland with a release date of October 31 and a price of $79.98!!

I wonder how the prices are set? The recent 5cD guitar Man set was the same $79.98 - shouldn’t a smaller packaged 4cd set cost less?

The quality is far from good. It's similar to ''From Georgia To Florida'', where not everything is audible. Remember, there's a possibility that FTD doesn't own Orlando. And no, FTD does not copy a bootleg, as far as I know.

Well surely Ernst will retire one day and it really does seems we are getting bulk releases now, after the Charlotte 20th Feb cd + a few bonus tracks. Move forward quite a few years (17)and we get everything they have from a tour. Quite a marked difference!!
