Now most of us have the set or will soon own it raise the question what now, what next, where to. Will FTD proceed with none movie sessions and go upwards to 69,70,71 and so on. Or will they go back to early movie sessions like Flaming Star, Follow That dream, world's Fair? Or is it time for Soundboards? Any suggestions?
Hopefully another of those movie sessions from the ealy 60´s you mentioned... :smt020. Bye for now :smt006.

The 70's sessions are next.

Are you sure?
There are several rumors circulating: a new book is said to be in the works (Making of G.I. Blues?). But if the next session is from the 70s, that means they'll skip NBC and American.

The recent American Sound 1969 box set is as complete as it will ever be, officially.

Thank God.

Quite a few things are missing from that set and it didn't have the same cover style as the "real" sessions sets so I hope they'll release it again. But since you work together with FTD for the session releases (amazing work btw, I always love to read the booklet), do you know something we don't? Does FTD consider the American Sound sessions as "done"?

I can't imagine FTD re-releasing the American Sound again. Even if not with any unreleased material, five years later.

Good suggestion and while on that trip, don't forget to play a lot of previous FTDs on the CD-player in your car.
I do it all the time, especially after I order my number one from McDonald’s with my greasy fries.

Working my way through this set, I was sort of dreading the 21 takes of Mine, but I ended up enjoying them more than I enjoy the master! Stockholm Syndrome, perhaps...but there was something hypnotizing and therapeutic about listening to the whole shebang.

Apologies if I have missed a previous post on this point: what is that dark matter has been super-imposed from EP's right ear lobe that runs down over his collar on this front cover?

How can it be considered complete when it is missing the overdubbed masters as originally released and is missing the undubbed master of "It Keeps Right On A-Hurtin'"?

I agree, and could finally actually understand why Elvis persisted with this less-than-stellar song, as he sought the heart of it.

To my ears, he found the master on take 18, the first one that he liked the sound of, and it leapt out to me too: the percussion was just a tad stronger and it lifted the whole track.

The subsequent takes did not have that magic, and it's take 18 for me from now on.

It's an excellent box!

Agreed! It's also one of the last times he used his 1960 Nashville voice - he went deeper and rougher sounding after these sessions. Mine is a great example

I finally have my set, but it’s been sealed for a couple of weeks, as I just haven’t had the time to dig in.

I will say that I really do like the idea of having the overdubbed masters at the end of each song, right after the undubbed master. Really nice touch.

I hope FTD continues down that route, especially with the 1970’s sessions. It will be quite interesting how they will approach, say, the Stax sessions, either collectively or individually, as per the albums. Time will tell.
