Don't forget the generation(s) who grew up in the 60s, 70s and 80s, but collectors have now unfortunately passed away. Or simply tired of collecting, now cherish what is in the cupboard, but not purchasing anything else. In 1999, when the FTD label started, it was all new and exciting. Now 25 years later with many soundboards, outtakes and reissues with sometimes minimal extra unreleased material on the Session sets, the challenge is no longer there, for some.
FTD (books included) has put out so much, so fast, that this is exactly (in part) what happened in my case. My initial intention was to get every release no matter what, but that slowly changed . . . in large part due to cost and volume / sometimes quality, etc. (and I never even started down the FTD vinyl road).

I still pick up what I occasionally want and very much enjoy my EP hobby. :)

Personally, I quite like the packaging and I think that overall this is another winner for FTD.
Very much agreed. :smt045 :smt034 :smt020 smt200 smt201 :smt023

What I meant by restrictions is that many dealers refuse to sell outside Europe. It's as simple as that. It's not that there are restrictions imposed on these dealers, it's that they refuse to ship outside Europe. This restricts FTD's sales.
But allowing IMusic and Amazon to sell FTD wouldn't damage the label at all.
The idea of digitizing all past & future FTD releases into streaming formats, including Amazon, i-Tunes, Spotify (even on an exclusive FTD website at a higher premium per say $2.00 per track) would not only make a boatload of sense, but also very viable, but alas, common sense isn't so common these days. :facep: :facep: :facep:

P.S. Right now I could not find a trustworthy dealer if my life depended on it to buy the new set on a whim, even though the release has been out for over a week. I'm still on the hunt for a copy...I'll even settle for a used copy at a reasonable price.

Whilst selling on Amazon and offering releases on digital platforms would seem like a good idea, the downside to that would be at the expense of existing dealers/clubs who rely on FTD sales to boost their income. And that’s probably why FTD’s original idea was to only allow their releases to go to Elvis dealers and clubs so that as Elvis fans, they benefit, as opposed to huge conglomerates like Amazon and iTunes etc.

Also, I do not think the quality of the majority of soundboard releases is good enough to go into mainstream for physical product. - what hardcore Elvis collectors will accept is not the same as what the casual purchaser will accept, so I could see any casual buyers going back to the shop where they bought them asking for a refund.

I don’t think there is an easy solution now to boost sales and I’m not sure that even if FTD themselves wanted to start selling directly that there is enough demand to spread things around - the cost to employ someone to look after and control the sales would simply be another cost to cover which even if it led to a slight increase in sales would only go to the cost of employing someone. And once again, any sales from FTD directly would affect dealers.

Putting the best sounding/complete shows from the back catalogue soundboards on digital platforms may be an option and would help prevent some dealers charging high prices for out of print releases, but that would only work if fans were happy to just have the recordings without the packaging. The same could apply to the Classic Album series. But Sony/FTD would need to do what other companies do with certain releases and that’s to make them available as "only full album" available for download which would stop people cherry picking individual tracks and ensure that a decent return on sales is made.

All of that aside, I’m curious to know why you are having a problem in finding a trustworthy dealer for this latest release as your comment implies none are trustworthy. And in what way are you suggesting they not trustworthy.

I'm not suggesting selling the tracks for download or streaming. But I am suggesting selling the physical media on Imusic or Amazon. As for studio or multitrack material, I don't think there will be any problem. But the soundboards would need to be stamped with a warning that the material is of irregular sound quality.

Bear Family Records (Germany) or Now Dig This (UK) are often used by folks all over the world:

https://www.bear-family.com/presley-elvis-the-last-tours-vol.1-4-cd.html
https://www.nowdigthismagazine.co.uk/shop/cds/the-last-tours-volume-1-pre-order/

Jungle Records (Finland) is another option:

https://junglerecords.fi/en/product/the-last-tours-vol-1-4cd-boxset/

I've personally bought FTD product from all of these vendors over the years and they're reliable and trustworthy.

Good luck! It's a very nice release and I hope you'll get hold of it somehow!

Shipping costs are a great burden too. Specially when most of us are accustomed to free Amazon shipping costs.

Stop complaining about the costs. Be happy and thankful. I don't know any other artist, alive or deceased, who brings out so much material and new albums!

The sound of this set is just great for a soundboard! I will make some stereo mixes from some of the highlights (for me personally) like Fairytale of Jailhouse Rock.

To add to this great idea, I recommend using one of the plastic disc trays, or indeed a CD itself, as a coaster for a steaming hot cup of coffee.

It’s been reported that the vinyl will come out early next month after a delay.

I hope so! A soundboard set of the March 1974 tour would be nice (e.g. both unreleased Memhpis shows+another show), it's been a while since we've visited that tour. Also the December 1975 season would be nice.

I agree. Let's finish the year strong and squeeze in another soundboard set before Christmas. Together with the rumored release of another "The Making of ...." box set. Here are a few suggestions I deem most likely:

- March 1974 (Knoxville?, Memphis) - Possible title: Elvis In Tennessee - Hometown Shows Volume 2
- May 1975 (Lake Charles, Murfreesboro)
- June 1975 (Mobile, Jackson?, Tuscaloosa)
- March 1976 (Johnson City?)

But: FTD seems to alternate between hotel engagements and tours, so another Vegas release may be up next.

I’d be surprised if we actually get another new release not already announced this side of Christmas. FTD may make an announcement in the next few weeks but unless FTD already has something basically in completed production stage, and more or less ready to go, which does not seem to be their way of working because they base their production runs on pre-orders following announcements, I don’t see a long enough lead time to go from getting pre-orders from dealers collated and then going to manufacturing/printing in the lead up to Christmas and then get them shipped out to dealers who in turn will need to get them out to buyers.

We haven’t even had the California Holiday vinyl because of production delays.

Don’t forget that with such small production runs, FTD cannot make demands on pressing plants to fulfil their needs when more current artists who require bigger production runs will get in there first with their requirements at this time of year.

The remaining Vegas February 1973 soundboards would be great, I think the February 10 soundboard over a soundbooth recording would be interesting too because a decent matrix recording could be made out of that.
